To ask how much annual leave you have left?

popgoesthecat2 · 31/07/2023 17:54

We are 7 months through the year and have 5 months left of this annual leave year (assuming yours runs jan - dec.

My annual entitlement is 26 days plus bank holidays. I have taken 10, have 8 booked and 8 left to book. I can carry a week over.

My manager thinks having 8 outstanding days to book is a lot at this point of the year, but if I carry 5 over I only have 3 really.

How many days do you have left to book at this point/ what is normal?

I’ve got 3 weeks booked off between Sept and Dec, and that’s my annual leave used up this year.

I get 27 days plus 8 bank holidays, so 7 weeks total, and I use every single day to maximise holidays (never take random ‘admin’ days and suchlike).

Mine runs from 1st July to 30th June. My entire annual leave up to 30th June 2024 is booked already.

It's NHS, you snooze you lose.

Love this!

I’m SUCH a planner.

MintJulia · 31/07/2023 18:29

27.5 days allowance, and I have 17.5 to take,

I shall take a few days at the end of the school summer holidays, and October half term.

That leaves me 9 or 10 to take at Christmas. 😊

MMorales · 31/07/2023 18:36

I have about 6 days to book but work part time. So that works out as 2 whole weeks

I've got 3 weeks already booked that I'm waiting to take.

MMorales · 31/07/2023 18:37

I get 7 weeks in total- one week is 'study leave' that I can choose when to take.

Plus bank holidays pro rata

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 31/07/2023 18:38

I get 20 days as I don't work Fridays.

I've got 10 left to book.

GCSister · 31/07/2023 18:38

Mine runs September to august and I've still got 6 days left. I can carry 5 over.

I get 37 days plus Christmas and bank holidays so usually end up carrying some over.

DontBeBitterGlitter2023 · 31/07/2023 18:39

Mine runs April to March, I've had a week off for a holiday and the odd day here and there so far for life admin. Got almost 3 weeks booked in October for a once in a lifetime trip, a couple of days for hangovers in august and December, and between Christmas and new year booked yet I somehow still have over 3 weeks left to take!

Senior in NHS so get 33 days plus bank holidays... i also do compressed hours and don't work Fridays so helps for a long weekend break etc.

Will probably visit family in South Africa early next year for 2 weeks but still surprised I have any left as I usually allocate them all straight away!

StillSmallVoice · 31/07/2023 18:45

I have quite a lot, and also a lot of TOIL which I lose if I don't take reasonably soon. I am not particularly bothered. I never take all my leave, but I don't feel guilty if I take more than an hour for lunch or slope off to get my nails done in the middle of the day.

My employer knows I am doing a good job, and do everything I need to, and more.

CasperGutman · 31/07/2023 18:45

My leave year runs until 31 Dec. Have twenty days left, of which I will use ten for a fortnight's summer holiday very soon! 😎

I used to have a manager who got uncomfortable if you took leave too early in the year, as you hadn't "earned it" yet. I have a colleague who uses his leave steadily throughout the year, for long weekends, and his manager tells him he should really take a "proper holiday" to "recharge" and that annual leave isn't just for long weekends (possibly she thinks he's just using days whenever his flexi hours get too low). And now, here's your manager complaining you're saving it up (even though you're entitled to roll over most of what's left).

You really can't win with managers, can you?

cocksstrideintheevening · 31/07/2023 18:47

Got ten days booked in august, 5 in October, one in December. Get 25 and I bought three this year.

Got 8 left to take, will try and carrot at least three over.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/07/2023 18:48

I get 30 including bank holidays.

I have five left to book (can carry two over), and have five booked between Christmas and New Year because we have a company shutdown.

Oh, I'll get my birthday off too.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 31/07/2023 18:50

Mine runs Apr-Mar. I've got half an hour short of 8 weeks to take this year (includes allowance for the bank holidays and there are two extra this year due to the coronation and Good Friday falling at the end of March). I've got two weeks booked in August, two in Oct, one at Christmas, and have one left to book which I'll use for Feb half term.

DoorstoManual · 31/07/2023 18:51

365 I am retired. 😂

gogomoto · 31/07/2023 18:52

Only taken 9/25 all to be used up by Christmas. 3 days at Christmas, a week in November got 4 off days ... what else shall I do???

WhatCameFirstTheChickenOrTheDickhead · 31/07/2023 18:53

18 left
15 taken/booked

But I'm Apr-Apr

Nw22 · 31/07/2023 18:54

Mien runs September to august. I have about 15 days left but that includes some carried forward from COVID years

UsingChangeofName · 31/07/2023 18:56

Well, mine goes 1st Sept - 31st Aug, and, although not all taken yet, all my leave is booked.

However, with yours, a BIG factor, I would of thought is how time off is arranged at Christmas. Do you need to take AL for the days between Christmas and NY ? Do you HAVE to, or are you ABLE to ? That alone would take you up to what you needed to take this year, but surely it is quite normal to take some days over a 5 month stretch ?

MrsCarson · 31/07/2023 18:58

I still have 2 weeks to take from last year and haven't started on this year yet.
It's hard to book as we can only have one of us off at a time to cover the shifts and there are 5 of us. I have a week coming up in August and 2 weeks booked for October but I need to book more.

magicstar1 · 31/07/2023 18:59

I carried forward 10 days from last year so had 36 days plus bank holidays etc.
I've taken some days off and have a week in August booked too. That leaves me with 20 days to take, and I don’t have to keep any for Christmas. I’ll probably take another week around November.

ClinkyWotsit · 31/07/2023 19:00

We’re encouraged to have at least booked a proportional amount off compared to how much of the annual leave year has passed. I.e. 7 months so nearly 60%, so we’re expected to have at least 15 days out of 25 booked in the system.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 31/07/2023 19:01

1.5 days

but I still have the bank hols, long weekend in September, October half term, and a few days in November/December booked in, as well as Christmas

I get my holiday requests in early

Ilovedthe70s · 31/07/2023 19:02

None left to book, allowance is 28 days including bank holidays, February to January and has to be booked by the end of February or is allocated by management. There is no option to carry any over or to buy extra.

CateringPanic · 31/07/2023 19:05

I think that sounds totally fine.

Mine runs April to April and I have used 8, have 8 booked and will probably take two weeks at xmas.

I get 27 days

Northernsoullover · 31/07/2023 19:05

Mine runs out in March. I get 33 plus bank Holidays. I've taken 7 so have 26 left. I get flexi too so tend to use that for odd days.
