God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

I think the pandemic robbed many people of social skills. It started to become acceptable to say how much you enjoy isolation and being away from social
obligations. And it became ok, even fashionable to say that you hate other people.

It’s no coincidence that dog ownership/obsession has increased in parallel and so many people have transferred their affection to canines instead. These poor folk don’t know how to communicate with, or be around people any more, adults or kids. This thread illustrates that phenomenon perfectly.

Where do these mumsnetters live where dog shit is EVERYWHERE?? What rubbish. Talk about an exaggeration. It used to be far worse 20/30 years ago before laws were brought in. No animal makes as much mess as a human being!! Stop being so bloody neurotic.

Exactly 😂 some mega exaggeration going on here, probably to try and back-up the pure nastiness toward dog owners.

Missola · 31/07/2023 22:21

Dog shit is everywhere, it’s grim. Either hung in little bags in the trees and hedgerows or smeared across the floor. It’s a nightmare walking with a toddler trying to avoid it, sad I can’t let my child just run free through grass as you just know it’s gonna be all over their shoes.
The worst is when people have dogs off leads and they come bowling up to your toddler as the owner shouts ‘it’s okay, they love kids’…many an argument when I’ve said that I don’t care I don’t want their minging dog licking or touching my child.

geekone · 31/07/2023 22:21

I absolutely 100% prefer dogs to humans.

Clarabe1 · 31/07/2023 22:24

Not for me @MerinoCashmere. I was bought up with cats, dogs, rabbits. I have always loved animals. I also have a good marriage, friends and love my family. You can have both. It isn’t a humans OR animals situation. In fact owning a pet can help you make friends. Dog owners usually like to chat about their pets when out and about, this can lead to making friends.

Bubblyb00b · 31/07/2023 22:24

I could never understand why some people talk about children when the subject of dogs comes up. Like, are you a bit soft in the head? Children might be annoying, etc etc, but they are little humans who will grow up to be adults, this is what all of us start as, doh. They are not pets, they are not here to entertain or amuse you. Deal with it, without them there will be no one wiping your bum or providing you with pension when you are old.

Dogs are fine, but I get annoyed/ feel sorry for the ones bread to be cutesy live toys - all the pugs, French bulldogs, all the poor things which are so inbred they are literally half dead fairground freaks of the canine world. Also, even if dogs are clever and funny, they are not human. They don't have human minds, sense of humour etc. They just evolved to do what we want them to do - read up on anthropomorphism, maybe it will make it easier to understand. They don't smile. And they lick each other's arses, remember this when you let them lick your face.

TedsmumLulu · 31/07/2023 22:25

I love dogs , I’ve had 3 over the years .
( I also have 3 children )
However , I don’t want to take him shopping or sit inside at a cafe with him .
We do sometimes stop for a coffee when we are dog walking and sit we outside .
I really don’t want him bothering anyone else

So why are the majority of dog-defenders here saying they hate people and children?

Clarabe1 · 31/07/2023 22:27

Where do you live @Missola where all this shit is and why do you need to feel the need to say ‘minging dog’ How nasty and how sad that your child will probably never learn to love an animal and will probably grow up neurotic like yourself.

If all dog-owners thought like you do, and all parents controlled their kids, there would be no need for threads like this. It’s a shame the world is full of the selfish and inconsiderate.

Because a lot of the complaints about dogs can also be applied to children.
A kid acting out in a cafe should not be tolerated because they might be wiping your arse one day. That is a truly bizarre way to look at things.

Clarabe1 · 31/07/2023 22:30

@MerinoCashmere they aren’t. They are reacting to the nasty people who generalize about ALL dog owners Take a look around, many dog owners have got kids themselves! Don’t you see all the families out with their dogs?

They aren't? Just a select few are. The problem is as 'dog defenders' we keep being put in the same boat, as if one dog owners views reflect every dog owners.

I can't blame them tbh, look at how awful some of the anti dog people are being on this thread! Apparently every one of us dog lovers are entitled, smelly, unclean, arrogant, lacking mental capacity, lacking relationships, filling a childless void (even tho I'm pretty sure many of us have kids?😂), lazy good for nothings! And you wonder why these people enjoy the company of their dog more?

It doesn’t mean I have to like children though, or engage with them in any way.

You don’t like children?

And you don’t want to engage with them in any way?

Interesting.

Bubblyb00b · 31/07/2023 22:45

@XenoBitch you completely misunderstood the meaning of my post, zooming in on arse wiping for some curious reason.

Let me try again. Children are small humans. They are what we all start as; without them we would literally cease to exist. They might be annoying, noisy, etc but they are the necessary evil (so to speak) as they are, literally, our future. You were a small annoying child at one point, too - believe it or not.

Dogs, on the other hand, are pets. They are not human and should never be equated to humans. Very strange that this is somehow not a known fact.

Yes, child are the future, but that does not mean we can't complain about them treating cafes like a playground either.

I don't like misbehaving dogs, and I don't like misbehaving children either.

Indi1906 · 31/07/2023 22:56

More dogs, less people!
By people, I mean adult people, the little ones are great…what a miserable post 😂

agonyau · 31/07/2023 23:01

Wow! I know not everyone is a dog lover, but there’s a lot of hatred directed at dogs on this thread that’s taken me aback. I am a dog owner and I’m pleased dogs are far more widely welcomed in cafes & restaurants, as I (like most fellow dog owners) regard our canine friends as family. I am also a mother, and must say it was far more difficult keeping an excitable toddler calm & well behaved (so as not to disturb other diners) than my dog. As for dog shit not being picked up, well that’s a bug bear for everyone including/especially for responsible dog owners like myself as it tars us all with the same brush - remember it’s the lazy owners that don’t clean up who are at fault, not the dogs. As far as I’m concerned dogs are equally important as humans therefore should be allowed not only in cafes & restaurants but also in all shops, which would make things far more convenient, as I’d be able to combine a dog walk with a small grocery shop, saving me two outings.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 31/07/2023 23:02

I 100% prefer humans.

I was reading this thread this morning feeling the same as the OP, only to get to my large, open plan office to find they'd brought in a therapy dog the size of a sodding wolf!! Why would anyone think that was appropriate or helpful to anyone? It's made me so angry. Not everyone likes dogs and certainly not so bloody big. I just felt it was really inappropriate and unnecessary.

I can't imagine that the dog was brought in as a surprise. Did you not get any sort of communication about the dog visiting?

Therapy dogs do actually help a lot of people. One used to visit the children's hospital I worked in. I now attend a mental health support group, and a therapy dog visits us too (alternate weeks, so anyone that has issues with dogs can choose not to attend on a dog week).

NoDought · 31/07/2023 23:19

I have a dog and like them but totally agree, they’re some really entitled dog owners who make taking your dog for a walk/ leaving the house on your own such a mission, dog crap everywhere, dogs off lead, running into you/ no recall. Can imagine would be awful for people who really dislike/ fear/ have allergies. Obvs not a generalisation of dog owners before anyone gets upset, see first point, I have a dog.
