The Mumsnet passive aggressive comment thread 😂

I was driving through a small cotswold village yesterday and there were a number of roadsigns that really reminded me of mumsnet. 😂

First there were several 30mph signs. A few hundred feet along was another sign saying 'It's still 30'. Next was 'Remember?' and then my favourite....'Had you forgotten?'

I've no issue as the fact they stayed in my memory likely means they better achieved their purpose than if they just went unnoticed, but the 'Had you forgotten?' really reminded me of the mumsnet classic 'Did you mean to be so rude?' 😂😂😂

I thought it'd be funny to have a thread to capture these mumsnetisms. The other common one I always see is 'doesn't sound like you like her very much' which I just encountered five mins ago on the thread where the OP is concerned her obese friend may not cope with the physical aspects of the job she's putting her forward for.

Hit me up with your favourites or show me your passive aggressive anger at my daring to mock this established mumsnet institution!

Any post about inheritance will have multiple postings saying either:

  • you arent entitled to anything, you should be grateful that you have been left your grandfather's lawn clippings (despite DGF having repeatedly told/shown OP that they are in the will and there is a wicked relative in the wings)
  • 'I would give all my (multiple millions) inheritance to have one more hour with DGGM (who passed away after a long life and would totally resent being brought back to life and having the inheritance squandered to achieve it)

But is kind of true though? You aren't entitled to anything. But i can totally see why people would be pissed off if they get cut out of a will.

Mine isn't a phrase but people who just cannot put themselves in someone else's shoes or imagine any sort of life that isn't exactly like theirs but still comment anyway, usually implying that theirs is the only way. That's really Mumsnet.

Yes to this it's the people charging their adult kids rent, parents or parent clearly state they can't afford it. Other privileged posters behave like its a crime to pay your way in life, really annoys me that they just bypassed that someone stated they can't afford it but they just bang on about how they could never do that 😴

Covidcabana · 30/07/2023 20:42

Are you quite well OP?

FKATondelayo · 30/07/2023 20:43

Style and Beauty has the best pass-agg.

"I wouldn't call Dior designer OP. It's been a high street brand for years."

cocoloco117 · 30/07/2023 16:29

You sound overly invested in the goings on in this village.
Were the speed signs there before you married dh?

@cocoloco117 this is perfection 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Totally agree, not entitled to anything but so often the comments are irrelevant to the question being asked.

guvguv · 30/07/2023 20:48

"I would seriously consider continuing with the pregnancy" is probably the most heinous one I have seen. AKA people should only have babies once they have been to university, are 100% financially independent, have bought a house and have a Labrador. And if they choose to go ahead, they have 0 right to any help or compassion.

Conkersinautumn · 30/07/2023 20:49

Is it the school holidays already?

Toohotto · 30/07/2023 20:54

Pinched off the Barbie & Ken if you poor thread:

You are only just working out that businesses primary aim is to make money?

itsmyp4rty · 30/07/2023 21:04

I love a bit of PA, it wouldn't be MN without it. Ticking off how many of these I've used over the years! Used 'but you do you' just today.

Chickenkeev · 30/07/2023 21:10

Seriously though, can ppl just not be dicks in general? Ppl come here for help. Can we all not just park our own shite and give that help without lecturing

you're obviously not a parent..:or variations

You obviously don't have a girl
Son
Twins
Triplets

Honestlyy · 30/07/2023 21:29

Talking to a poster with 3 children...
this is why I stopped at two. You really make things much more difficult for yourself with three.

TrundleWheel76 · 30/07/2023 21:38

Why did you get pregnant by this man? 😁

daisychain01 · 30/07/2023 21:41

unclench, OP.

MrsAlexander · 30/07/2023 21:43

"I think you need to stop worrying"

Oh okay Janet, I'm totally zen now. Crisis diverted.

Seconded. See also the "Oh God no-one dresses up for The Ivy, OP - I just wear a vintage cashmere onesie and a fox fur" etc etc.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/07/2023 22:20

Oh that Ivy thread was horrible people outdoing themselves to shit on the OP and make out her previously special trip was third rate at best

tt9 · 30/07/2023 22:22

I voted YABU because you put up with those signs/worded your question poorly

Chickenkeev · 30/07/2023 22:24

Here, even if OP is a dope, does she deserve a pile on? No. Chill the fucking beans.

namechangenacy · 30/07/2023 22:26

One of my favourites

"Have you tried counselling"

a"dump him"

When ops posting that she's had a fight with dh and is just venting about nothing serious.

pintery · 30/07/2023 22:28

Anything that begins "you DO realise..." or "you DO know..." something that the OP obviously doesn't realise/know.

And anything that ends "HTH"

FKATondelayo · 30/07/2023 22:30

Belmondo · 30/07/2023 22:08

Didn't see that thread but lemme guess.

"No real Londoner dresses up to go out in London. I was in Hakkasan last week wearing painting overalls and some Uggs. Nobody batted an eyelid but everyone told me how chic and stylish I was and I got mistaken for a French woman. You can always spot a tourist by their washed hair and clean clothes."

Time4achange2 · 30/07/2023 22:32

'He bought you a toilet brush for your birthday, OP?'

LTB immediately before we all start clutching our pearls.
