Prints and logos on t-shirts / tops look stupid and immature when you're 30s

I'm trying to settle a little dispute with a friend of mine,

We're both blokes in our 30s and i basically told him his Boba Fett t-shirt is not what you could call optimal dress sense if he wants to attract women and generally look like a well rounded 30-something bloke.

Same goes to a lesser extent logo tops.. "Calvin Klein"

I like high quality PLAIN tops 100% cotton and well fitting to my body, maybe they'll have a small logo somewhere but that's all.

I love my geeky t shirts. I think I have about 30 at least. My husband has way more. I don't think we own a plain t shirt between us! We also have geeky shirts, dresses, jackets and socks etc. They cover various franchises, films, shows and bands. Today he's in Disney and I'm in Star Wars. We're happy. We both fancy each other and love each others style. Couldn't care less if anyone else thinks we're childish or whatever. Life is too short to worry about whether you're too old to wear a certain type of t shirt.
It's much better to wear what you want and find someone who loves you for you.

Selfesteem23 · 27/07/2023 08:07

We are 44 and my partner had a Star Wars t shirt on yesterday. I bought it him.

I don’t like cheesy slogans on women’s t shirts like with silly quotes that mean feck all. ‘ sunshine makes the day’ ‘Rainbows are nature’ blahhhh

But t shirts with movie:tv characters, bands. All good in my house. It’s just clothes. We have smart clothes too. Both can be worn as we want.

But there’s nowt wrong with liking things that some seem to think we have to grow out of. Life is far too short to have such rules. People can have wide personalities that enjoy the finer things in life and the apparently immature, silly but fun shit too.

I will shortly be 40 and today I am wearing a t-shirt with a Frida Kahlo graphic on it. It's one of my favourites. Sometimes I... wear it to work.

YABU.

Also 39 and love my Frida Kahlo t shirt!

Mapoftheproblematique · 27/07/2023 08:11

Ah sorry, is 29 the cut off age then? What else is 'expected' of people in their 30s?

Nannyfannybanny · 27/07/2023 08:15

I'm in my 70s, and have a rock chick t shirt from Tesco, have had it well over 15 years. I was going to give it to charity shop this year, kept it. No-one believes how old it is. It's great with Jeans and shorts. If we're walking the dog,or in the park DH,60s will wear a logo t shirt....as long as it's Ben Sherman!!!

Me too. Plain clothes in 'tasteful' colours like cream and navy on a man in his thirties is just plain weird.

As for the solemn talk of showing off physique and leg shape, I think my vagina just slammed shut like a venus flytrap.

Pahahaha at the venus flytrap comment. Exactly this. I couldn't get sexy feelings about someone who harps on about their leg physique.

I'm quite fond of my DH of many years. He bought half his current crop of T shirts at Universal Studios. I like the retro Jaws one particularly. He also looks lovely in a suit and has plenty smart clothes for work etc.

I like him for who he is. Not what he chooses to wear. I believe he feels the same about me (though he does encourage me to wear my "Hiss" T shirt which at first looks like a Kiss T shirt til you realise they're all cats. It makes him laugh)

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 27/07/2023 08:36

You're basically encouraging him to lie and hide who he is. To wear a mask that attracts women who prefer that mask. What do you think will happen when the mask slips off? Or do you expect him to have a total personality transplant as well?

TheNineNine · 27/07/2023 08:47

Why would you want a friend to dress like you do or attract the type of women you attract?

It doesn't make any sense at all. He's not you. He doesn't want a woman who fancies men in a cream t-shirt. He wants a woman who he likes not one you like.

CatMattress · 27/07/2023 08:52

It very much depends. My (slightly overweight) ex wears superman and other hero tshirts. Usually in a size too small (as in they're too short as well as tight). It makes him look delusional.

My (rather more overweight) DP occasionally wears a Banana Man t shirt (that fits), which is hilarious.

Context is key!

FutureMandosWife · 27/07/2023 09:03

My husband is a wearer of many star wars tshirts with different prints on them. I would be worried if he stopped wearing them. It's him. Nothing about being too old for them.

Shoesonthefloor · 27/07/2023 09:33

I'm thinking I may get DH a new Star Trek t shirt for his next birthday or Christmas now, thanks OP 😁

MammaTo · 27/07/2023 09:38

I think it depends on who’s wearing them. Some people have the charisma to carry off certain looks that others don’t, no 2 outfits look the same on people.

JasperHale · 27/07/2023 09:46

Love my black Snoopy tshirt "Not today, tomorrow ", and the other one "Wake me up when it's Friday ". I'm in my 40s

MRSDoos · 27/07/2023 09:52

Personally I think it’s great that everyone has different tastes and styles. Imagine everyone walking round wearing plain tops and jeans. Would be a bit weird. I think peoples styles can show their personality.

Me and my friends all have our own styles, neither of us have the “correct age appropriate style” compared to each other. We are all different

Threenow · 27/07/2023 09:54

FrogsWormsandCaterpillars · 26/07/2023 22:18

I would be far more attracted to a man in at shirt with a picture or words on, or, even better, a band t shirt.
Plain tops to show off a physique, absolutely not

Me also. I'm 64 and all my tee-shirts have pictures or words, I'm just not attracted to plain ones.

Threenow · 27/07/2023 09:56

I also think you should leave your friend to wear what he wants. Why does he have to be a carbon copy of you?

Mapoftheproblematique · 27/07/2023 09:58

I'm 32 and wearing a top which says Hawaii with a flower on! Shoot me

blacknredsweeties · 27/07/2023 09:59

Had to Google Boba Fett

pamplemoussemousse · 27/07/2023 10:18

JamesLondon11 · 26/07/2023 22:17

I like cream, white, navy and black.
T-shirts that are well fitted and show off my physique

I also wear slim fitting jeans (not skinny and not baggy). Ones that show off my leg shape but not so tight they look like leggings.

Give me Boba Fett guy any day.

My husband wears Star Wars T-shirts, they can't help but show off his physique because he's 6'4 and built like Arnie.

Somethingsnappy · 27/07/2023 10:27

I am very much enjoying this thread!

Please come back and tell us what else we like in/on a man OP... Intriguing!

ODFOx · 27/07/2023 10:34

I buy DH picture tees regularly. He wears them. We laugh. It doesn't make him less attractive.
Yesterday he wore one that said 'I'm a HUGGER' with a big picture of the pink bear from Toy Story 3 looking menacing.

edenhills · 27/07/2023 10:35

Not sure how to vote as I wouldn't be put off by a star wars t-shirt but I would be put off by a designer logo/text t-shirt such as Calvin Klein.

ODFOx · 27/07/2023 10:39

OP: it may be that your friend would get along well with someone who likes BobaFett but not necessarily someone who wants a partner dressed in Saville Row.
As long as he isn't scruffy or dirty and is engaging, funny or kind then wearing clothing that shows a little about his likes and interests isn't necessarily a bad thing.

edenhills · 27/07/2023 10:40

I think one of the things I would find most off putting in a man on a date would be taking themselves too seriously and a star wars t-shirt would hopefully alleviate that.

Righty ho James from London 🤔

I can guarantee your slim jeans showing off your well honed physique and similarly well fitting t shirts are sending lots of women running in the opposite direction.

Slim jeans on men 🤮
