Prints and logos on t-shirts / tops look stupid and immature when you're 30s

I'm trying to settle a little dispute with a friend of mine,

We're both blokes in our 30s and i basically told him his Boba Fett t-shirt is not what you could call optimal dress sense if he wants to attract women and generally look like a well rounded 30-something bloke.

Same goes to a lesser extent logo tops.. "Calvin Klein"

I like high quality PLAIN tops 100% cotton and well fitting to my body, maybe they'll have a small logo somewhere but that's all.

@JamesLondon11 if I was in my 30s looking for a potential boyfriend one of the places I would look is something like a “Star Wars” convention.
Cos that’s the type of interests I have. Surely I would want a boyfriend with a shared interest?

To be fair.. Most of the posters on this thread are people who's dating lives are finished.. with partners..

I'm trying to help my mate out and i believe women in their 30s will be more attracted to a man who looks smart, with clothes that accentuate his good fit body not looking like a nerd that just came from a star wars convention..

Same goes for jeans.. Baggy jeans are MINGING especially on 30-something men. Reminds me of the old fellas standing at the bar in Wetherspoons waiting for their pint..

I love star wars and Mandalorian and all things sci-fi but that's not the point. etc etc..

Doesn't that make our opinions MORE relevant not less?! We were dating and then settled down with men who wore slogan t shirts. Thus proving your point complete and absolute bollocks.

BovrilMartini · 26/07/2023 22:39

There is nothing sexier than a man in an obscure band T-shirt

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/07/2023 22:40

Most of us are well able to remember our 'dating lives'...

A bloke in tight jeans and tee that 'show off his physique' looks exactly like a man determined to show off his physique... which would turn me off like a mains trip switch quite honestly.

I can see the wrapper for myself, I want to know whats inside the package and you're not advertising that at all. No deal.

Yet here you are asking our advice......

Plain is seriously boring, I'd be with the Star Wars dude every time!

This !

ilovesooty · 26/07/2023 22:41

JamesLondon11 · 26/07/2023 22:17

I like cream, white, navy and black.
T-shirts that are well fitted and show off my physique

I also wear slim fitting jeans (not skinny and not baggy). Ones that show off my leg shape but not so tight they look like leggings.

That's nice dear.

PrudenceDictates · 26/07/2023 22:42

Your "style" sounds painfully dull.

I'd assume a guy who dresses as you do to be a bit of a charisma vacuum.

Hawkins0001 · 26/07/2023 22:43

What you all need is a T-shirt with Sam and Dean in it with also other supernatural characters

sandyhappypeople · 26/07/2023 22:44

pop culture/band tees are a perfect way to start a conversation though!

It sounds like you take yourself a tad too seriously OP.. don't let that rub off on your friend!

MissingOkie · 26/07/2023 22:45

Come on ladies, here we have the fine specimen that is James.....he’s got a great physique....he wears well fitted plain tees to show us that physique......any takers? 🤢

Agapornis · 26/07/2023 22:45

This single woman in her 30s would happily date your friend, but I would absolutely not date the uptight judgmental knob you appear to be.

Prefer Star Trek to Star Wars, though. Very happy to look like a nerd who just came from a convention.

WunWun · 26/07/2023 22:46

I don't really think this is real, but I'm a single (for four years) woman in her 40s.

If I was going to pick someone based on their appearance, there is absolutely no way I'd pick the boringly dressed. "Smart"?! Is not an attractive look unless you're looking for a complete dullard.

Not that I'd go for a starwars tshirt either, but Jesus. Get some actual style. Looking "smart" is looking bland by your description

ilovesooty · 26/07/2023 22:41

That's nice dear.

It sounds like you don’t need a date because you spend all your time looking in the mirror.

Oops. That was meant to be in response to this

Shows they don’t take themselves too seriously. Show off my physique 🤢🤢🤢🤢🙈

cringe

Papernotplastic · 26/07/2023 22:49

I can’t think of any woman lusting after the shape of a man’s leg outside of a Jane Austen novel.

Obviously you have your own type and preferences but if your friend is trying to attract women and not men, maybe he doesn’t think what you find attractive in men and their outfits is helpful to him.

Thatboymum · 26/07/2023 22:52

Im attracted to men around my age so very early 30s in either check shirts and jeans or branded T-shirts like stone island Balenciaga off white Cp company that kind of thing with jeans and a nice pair or trainers . I wouldn’t find character clothing attractive at that age

Hawkins0001 · 26/07/2023 22:43

Well quite - & considering that the gender split at a Supernatural convention leans heavily to the female side, he might have some luck!

Today my DH is wearing his Cones of Dunshire T-shirt. DC took great delight a few years ago choosing him a Deadpool riding a unicorn T-shirt - he loves it - even wears it to work.

Zipps · 26/07/2023 22:52

Yabu he wants a woman who accepts him as he is with shared interests.
He's authentic and I bet his choice of girlfriend will be very different to yours. Leave him be.
My DH wears Triumph, Harley Davidson and old rock band t-shirts.
He's as fit as fuck.

ChildrenOfRuin · 26/07/2023 22:53

Hmm.

I think it’d depend a lot on what exactly was on the T-shirt, I’ve seen some that would put me off, but if the print / logo was for an interest I shared, it would be a plus point.

NudeLouboutins · 26/07/2023 22:54

Look, it depends on the kind of woman your friend is looking to attract.

Does he want a girl he’ll have things in common with and who takes him as he is? Or the type who is overly concerned with appearances and impressions and blending in?

I don’t want a guy to hide his real self away behind boring clothes (unless he’s really into fashion and has amazing classy basics, but that’s still his real self). I don’t want someone in a generic Ralph Lauren polo who then later turns out to be a completely different person. Clothes should reflect the guy, not hide them away to meet society’s expectations.

Would you rather attract 2 females that like you for you than 10 that fall for your pick up techniques but who you have to put an act/ appearance on for?

As it happens my man dresses really well and I find it sexy as I also like fashion/style. But he doesn’t dress his age, probably more like a 30-year-old footballer with out-there trainers etc. Definitely has a few special interest t-shirts. And that’s hot because he’s himself. He does own a few more conservative bits for events etc but they’re not him, they make him look like a generic guy/ someone trying to blend it. In those he wouldn’t catch my eye as he’d look like any other bloke.

Do you want to date a woman who wears the Insta model ‘uniform de jour’ or someone with a bit of edge?

Nice when guys look smart and stylish but they shouldn’t pretend to be something that they’re not to appeal to women. So don’t go out buying Star Wars shirts cos that probably isn’t you.
