How much toilet roll do you use?

So, we had some friends coming to stay last weekend, a family of 4 with young children(3&5). The have now left but I’m left completely baffled by the amount of toilet roll they went through whilst here.

We have a guest room with its own bathroom that I left 2 full rolls in plus all the other things they might need. (shampoo/conditioner/soap/toothpaste/towels) They arrived Thu afternoon/evening and left Mon mid morning. We spent 1&1/2 days out of the house sightseeing.

They came asking for toilet roll on day 2 and I showed them where they could grab some more and after that they helped themselves. I’ve now been up to tidy up and they left all the inner rolls on the side so can see how many the have used and I just can’t understand how they managed to go through 6 full rolls during their stay! What did they do with it all?

Are we possibly very light users of toilet roll ourselves and this is completely normal? We are also a family of 4 and we would possibly go through 2 or perhaps 3 during that time.

They obviously also used the downstairs toilet, so didn’t head up to the guest toilet for every visit either.

Please help me understand where it all went!

YABU - It’s a completely normal
YANBU - How did they go through it all?

Ps I do use it for blowing my nose after using a neti pot and I'm doing that twice a day. I just pee a lot 🤣

I use LOADS.

And that is why my pants do not have skid marks.

Men, take note.

Mum2jenny · 27/07/2023 21:26

I use very little loo roll and never have skid marks. Skid marks are a sign of incompetent wiping ( or a hairy arse).

Americans on average use just under 24 rolls a year, or one every two weeks. Australians use 88 per year, or a bit more than 1 and a half per week. So either there's a strange difference between Americans and Australians, or someone has their sums wrong.

Taking the abstemious American one toilet roll every two weeks, a family of 4 would use 4 every two weeks, or two a week. So 6 in about half a week is pushing it a bit.

If on the other hand they're more like the profligate Australians, they'd use 6 to 7 a week. So 6 in a long weekend is a lot, but not that bad.

To all the posters that think I'm weird - if a roll of loo paper has 400 sheets, that's approx 200 visits to the loo.
If a who gives a crap loo roll lasts 4 weeks (or a normal one two weeks), that's over seven visits to the loo daily - I'm at work most days, and often out in the evening.
Most of you must be incontinent!

We’re a family of 3. It varies but I have a bowel disorder so sometimes we use a lot when I have a flare up.

Who on earth only uses 2 sheets of paper when they go to the toilet? I use yards. It reminds me of Brazil where the old woman hands you one sheet as you go in to the loo. WTF are you supposed to do with that? 😂

JaninaDuszejko · 28/07/2023 07:12

@Gingerboy22 Two is generous, there's usually a poster on toilet roll threads saying one sheet for a pee and two for a poo. I assume they are taking the piss though (pun deliberate).

Tiqtaq · 29/07/2023 11:40

Wow two sheets surely you get your hands dirty with that?!!!

Buckle up @GiGingerboy22 for the posts blaming you for all drain blockages ever 😬

I'd be sore and skiddy with just 2 bits of loo roll for a poo.

Peak mumsnet!!

Good thing you didn’t include a photo OP or the PP would have told you where you could tidy it.

Anyway, as another pp says, it’s not that much over average. Maybe they poo more regularly than you guys.

Would you not tidy up if you’d of been a guest at someone’s house for a few days? I’d always clean hair out the plug holes, check loo for skid marks, take out rubbish and recycling, used towels in for washing. Basic manners surely?
