How much toilet roll do you use?

So, we had some friends coming to stay last weekend, a family of 4 with young children(3&5). The have now left but I’m left completely baffled by the amount of toilet roll they went through whilst here.

We have a guest room with its own bathroom that I left 2 full rolls in plus all the other things they might need. (shampoo/conditioner/soap/toothpaste/towels) They arrived Thu afternoon/evening and left Mon mid morning. We spent 1&1/2 days out of the house sightseeing.

They came asking for toilet roll on day 2 and I showed them where they could grab some more and after that they helped themselves. I’ve now been up to tidy up and they left all the inner rolls on the side so can see how many the have used and I just can’t understand how they managed to go through 6 full rolls during their stay! What did they do with it all?

Are we possibly very light users of toilet roll ourselves and this is completely normal? We are also a family of 4 and we would possibly go through 2 or perhaps 3 during that time.

They obviously also used the downstairs toilet, so didn’t head up to the guest toilet for every visit either.

Please help me understand where it all went!

YABU - It’s a completely normal
YANBU - How did they go through it all?

Fascinating thread. I can’t say I’ve ever thought much about other people’s loo roll usage. We are a two adult, non-menstruating household with no bowel issues and work from home. 2 rolls per week between us.

Who is using over 2 rolls a week by themselves?! That is a crazy amount

Average person uses 85 per year according to this site. That's almost 2 a week so it's not that crazy that some people use 2 a week.

Really I think it's a bit weird to judge/ worry about other people's toilet roll usage (unless you are a toilet roll company!)

Thank you @Alloveragain3! it looks like we are in the minority! I seriously wouldn’t have thought that being the case, but how could we know if not for these ridiculous threads!

Had never thought a bout it before either, but when you have a family visiting that uses 3 to 4 times as much as your own, it did make me wonder. Don’t think it’s strange to be curious about how other people live.

Fair enough. Years ago I had a family member who used to go mad if people used more than 2 sheets of loo roll per visit. Absolutely drove me mad and she couldn't police it anyway. Best to just leave people to it. Toileting is pretty personal.

Mama678 · 26/07/2023 15:07

We go through one a day roughly, 4 people

EmmaMY · 26/07/2023 15:12

I think I’d be equally curious if I had visitors that ate 4 x as much as me as I’m considering my eating to be healthy and normal. So if that would have happened I might have started a thread about that instead.

Well that sounds completely bonkers! I said nothing to them and supplied them with what they needed with a smile.

toileting is personal, but as this is an anonymous forum I was curious to ask!

It'll vary a lot based on how much you drink = more wee, how high fibre a diet you eat = more poo, if you have a bowel issue.

We have a family of 5 including 3 menstrating females, 1 male adult who tends not to drink enough and a 10yo child who uses masses of toilet roll. We buy WGAC and get through about 1 roll a day when folks are at school and work. More in lockdown!

When we have visitors I always make sure there's absolutely lots of spare loo rolls in the guest bathroom, I have a relative with UC so don't want anyone to feel stressed about there not being enough.

Star0Fire · 26/07/2023 15:50

This is so outing I hope they don't see this- imagine how embarrassed you'd be 😱😂

greenteaandmarshmallows · 26/07/2023 15:52

Standard loo roll from lidl one a day. Who gives a crap loo roll - 3-4 days.

But seriously it depends on what they've eaten, they might have bladder weakness etx

greenteaandmarshmallows · 26/07/2023 16:03

What did you feed them?

TokyoSushi · 26/07/2023 16:08

Gosh, I didn't realise that we were massive under users, I buy a x12 pack for a family of 4 every month - we never run out!!

FinallyHere · 26/07/2023 17:35

DH, IBS, order based on one roll/ day

Me, 'two sheet Charlie' one roll / fortnight.

People are different.

FlameGrilledSquirrel · 26/07/2023 17:47

1 Square per person per week. Why anyone would need more is beyond me.

shellyleppard · 26/07/2023 18:35

I have two teenagers.....who use a LOT of toilet roll. We used to go through a roll every couple of days. I brought some bamboo toilet rolls and its lasting a lot longer!!!! But it does seem excessive for the time they were there

mydogisthebest · 26/07/2023 19:05

Just me and DH. I am home almost every day and DH is home 4 days a week.

We both poo once a day. I wee about 3 or 4 times a day and DH usually the same.

I use 1 sheet per wee and 5 sheets per poo. Not sure how much DH uses but I would think similar amounts as loo roll lasts us such a long time

riotlady · 26/07/2023 19:11

We go through about 4-5 a week of WGAC as a family of 3. DH has IBS, I wee a lot and DD is an “exuberant” user of bog roll 😂I got stressed out by it at one point but life is too short to worry about loo roll so i just make sure we’re stocked up and don’t worry about it

Moreorlessmentallystable · 26/07/2023 22:59

DaisyWaldron · 26/07/2023 07:42

We are a household of 4, and I just checked my Who Gives A Crap order and a box of 48 rolls of lasts us 8 months. Having said that, both children went through vast quantities of loo roll in the first year or two of being able to wipe independently.

Did you mean 8 weeks? No way you are using only 6 rolls a month right?

DaisyWaldron · 27/07/2023 06:07

No, 8 months. I just checked, though, and the rolls are bigger than the supermarket ones, so all the WHAC users aren't really a fair comparison. Andrex has around 200 sheets a roll and Who Gives a Crap has 370.

tootiredtospeak · 27/07/2023 06:08

Family of 5 6 to 9 tolls a week

Caspianberg · 27/07/2023 06:52

We buy wgac.
I have no idea of usage, but we buy max 3 boxes ( 48 a box) per year, and that includes holiday rental that I put it it (I put in 4 a week, sometimes guests use all, other times there’s some unopened rolls - rented about 12 weeks a year).
Plus we have family visit a few weeks a year and all work from home.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/07/2023 07:57

@Moreorlessmentallystable the WGAC rolls last for ages. A box of 48 lasts DH and I about a year. They seem expensive when you first buy them but they last a long time.

The only issue we have is storing them!

Mum2jenny · 27/07/2023 21:06

Currently use 1 roll per around 5 days for 2 adults, one of whom works from home. And we use it for blowing noses etc

WoofWoofBeachLife · 27/07/2023 21:13

Not read the full thread but I use a ridiculous amount of loo roll. It's become more apparent because my husband has been away working Monday to Friday and last week I went through 2 if the asda double rolls we had left which equates to 4 rolls, and 6 normal sized rolls of Morrisons own brand. That's from the Sunday night to Friday night 😱
