How much toilet roll do you use?

So, we had some friends coming to stay last weekend, a family of 4 with young children(3&5). The have now left but I’m left completely baffled by the amount of toilet roll they went through whilst here.

We have a guest room with its own bathroom that I left 2 full rolls in plus all the other things they might need. (shampoo/conditioner/soap/toothpaste/towels) They arrived Thu afternoon/evening and left Mon mid morning. We spent 1&1/2 days out of the house sightseeing.

They came asking for toilet roll on day 2 and I showed them where they could grab some more and after that they helped themselves. I’ve now been up to tidy up and they left all the inner rolls on the side so can see how many the have used and I just can’t understand how they managed to go through 6 full rolls during their stay! What did they do with it all?

Are we possibly very light users of toilet roll ourselves and this is completely normal? We are also a family of 4 and we would possibly go through 2 or perhaps 3 during that time.

They obviously also used the downstairs toilet, so didn’t head up to the guest toilet for every visit either.

Please help me understand where it all went!

YABU - It’s a completely normal
YANBU - How did they go through it all?

I am a self confessed user of a hell of a lot of toilet roll. I have no health issues which mean I may need 'extra' it's simply just something I use a lot of. When I first moved in with my DH it was one of the first things I warned him of lol. Saying that though if I was staying in someone else's house I would bring my own.

Maybe there was a spill and they used it to clean up?

Remaker · 26/07/2023 04:33

People are different. Two of my family members poo at least 3x a day whereas many people only go once. If someone has IBS or similar they will have diarrhoea which needs more TP. Also little girls use more TP than boys, don’t know if that’s a factor.

Some people use TP in place of tissues, and to clean up surfaces etc.

EmmaMY · 26/07/2023 04:41

Good point about IBS etc. nothing I’m aware of, but def possibly.

don’t think there were any spills, but possible of course.

They did bring some on our days out to clean wipe the kids down with when sticky, but a few sheets, not like a whole roll.

Sounds like they are probably just wasteful then.

ThinWomansBrain · 26/07/2023 05:51

I live by myself - a roll lasts 2-3 weeks.
In lockdown I bought a case of "who gives a crap" paper. It lasted for more than two years - and I still keep finding the occasional roll of it.

GroutScrubberExtraordinaire · 26/07/2023 05:52

Average person used 2.4 rolls per week.

They stayed half a week and there was 4 of them. So the average would have been just under 5 rolls for that time.

So six rolls is higher than average. But not by a totally crazy amount.

Bloody hell!
Do you never poo
Or have periods?

Badbudgeter · 26/07/2023 06:51

My kids use an inordinate amount of loo roll. They are on 2 ply to save blocking the loo. Really they could of tidied up to put the inners in the recycling.

Catsmere · 26/07/2023 06:52

We go through far more paper than I like, because my mother thinks it's an alternative to handkerchiefs and stuffs it in her pockets every time she goes to the loo - and she goes every thirty minutes or so, and never remembers she's already got a stash.

Who is using over 2 rolls a week by themselves?! That is a crazy amount

HerMammy · 26/07/2023 07:33

Competitive tiny loo roll usage 🤣
A roll lasting 2/3 weeks? away you go 🤣

PinkyFlamingo · 26/07/2023 07:38

Thought I had seen it all on MN but no along comes competitive toilet roll use!

DaisyWaldron · 26/07/2023 07:42

We are a household of 4, and I just checked my Who Gives A Crap order and a box of 48 rolls of lasts us 8 months. Having said that, both children went through vast quantities of loo roll in the first year or two of being able to wipe independently.

YouAndMeAndThem · 26/07/2023 07:46

I could not tell you how much toilet roll we use. I buy a 9 pack a week but there's always rolls in both bathroom cupboards and in the cleaning cupboard. It's not something I've ever thought of or counted. Especially counting visitors toilet roll use! How intrusive!

decaffonlypls · 26/07/2023 07:47

We have 7 people in our house and go through about 6 a week which seemed a lot to me!

Bouncyball23 · 26/07/2023 07:50

Depends what toilet roll it was, if I buy cheap toilet roll it goes pretty quick 6 rolls would last no more than 3 days if I buy expensive it lasts so much longer.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/07/2023 07:51

One roll lasts me 4-5 days, I think.

Gymmum82 · 26/07/2023 07:53

My kids go through a roll in 24 hours. It drives me absolutely bonkers. I’m going to start rationing it soon

SparkyBlue · 26/07/2023 07:55

It's the young kids. My four year old and seven year old use way too much I actually can't believe that I passed a comment recently asking them to use less.

otherwayup · 26/07/2023 07:57

I have coeliacs so am a big user of loo roll.
I do feel a bit embarrassed by my usage when I stay somewhere (your post hasn't helped!) but normally sort of warn my host in a lighthearted way.

I'm quite open with close friends about my 'toilet' needs!

Justleaveitblankthen · 26/07/2023 07:59

That's ridiculous!
How did they not block the toilet?

ifonly4 · 26/07/2023 08:02

DD home with us at moment, so three of us. I think we're getting through a maximum of five rolls a week.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 26/07/2023 08:05

4 in our house and probably use about 4 to 6 a week.
Good quality rolls though because the cheapest ones don't last at all and we would use loads
