How much toilet roll do you use?

So, we had some friends coming to stay last weekend, a family of 4 with young children(3&5). The have now left but I’m left completely baffled by the amount of toilet roll they went through whilst here.

We have a guest room with its own bathroom that I left 2 full rolls in plus all the other things they might need. (shampoo/conditioner/soap/toothpaste/towels) They arrived Thu afternoon/evening and left Mon mid morning. We spent 1&1/2 days out of the house sightseeing.

They came asking for toilet roll on day 2 and I showed them where they could grab some more and after that they helped themselves. I’ve now been up to tidy up and they left all the inner rolls on the side so can see how many the have used and I just can’t understand how they managed to go through 6 full rolls during their stay! What did they do with it all?

Are we possibly very light users of toilet roll ourselves and this is completely normal? We are also a family of 4 and we would possibly go through 2 or perhaps 3 during that time.

They obviously also used the downstairs toilet, so didn’t head up to the guest toilet for every visit either.

Please help me understand where it all went!

YABU - It’s a completely normal
YANBU - How did they go through it all?

I’m with you op, I am a light (well, I’d say normal tbh) user of loo roll but my husband uses an insane amount. I’ve seen him grab some to blow his nose or whatever and he uses LOADS of it. Same with kitchen roll, if he’s wiping a serfice he’ll prob grab 4-5 pieces where I’d grab 1-2. I’m staggered by it , but suspect it’s the different ways we were bought up.

Muhwanda · 26/07/2023 11:26

I think we’re married to the same man @BackupFail 🤣😫

I live by myself - a roll lasts 2-3 weeks.
In lockdown I bought a case of "who gives a crap" paper. It lasted for more than two years - and I still keep finding the occasional roll of it.

You must be my double - same here -live on my own and get through similar amounts of toilet paper- love who gives a crap- lasts weeks. Xx

CindersAgain · 26/07/2023 11:29

I wonder if some people use much more each time? That would make a difference, as well as the number of times they go. Plus maybe there is a big nose blower.

I really want to get into some numbers about sheets per wipe and number of wipes but I don’t want to play into the hands of a poo troll.

I obv thought our usage was normal too, but MN does not agree! 🙈💩🧻 Don’t feel like I’m saving it, just not using excessive amounts!

Yes let’s get into some numbers! 🙌🏼

Family number: 4 (2 adults, to tweens)
male:2
female:2 - both on regular periods.

1 adult works from home always
1 adult works from home 1 day a week plus home on weekends obv
2 kids at school, but on summer holidays at the moment.

The toileting details I will only answer for myself as I don’t keep track of the rest of them:

prob do a wee 3-4 times a day.

poo once a day

sheets per wee: 3
sheets per poo: to be honest, most of the time I don’t need any more then the same 3 that I use to wipe the wee as it comes away clean the first time. If not clean first time, then add another 3 to this one.

according to the brand we use our rolls, each contains 200 sheets. For me alone based on the information provided a single roll would last me 16-22 days. (I’m the one that works from home.)

3 visits a day: 200/(3x3)=22
4 visits a day: 200/(3x4)=16

So a pack of 9 of these lasts the 4 of us about a month, sounds about right based on how often I buy a pack.

I can sort of see how the longevity of this would be reduced drastically if I used 5 sheets every time and went 10 times, so guess it’s just different. 200/(10x5)=4

would love to hear some heavy users ones.

we're a family of 4 (2 small children) and on a weeks holiday we get through 9 rolls sometimes more. I don't know what they do with it all! I will say that we get through a lot more at home when dh is off work.

CindersAgain · 26/07/2023 12:16

Ah, OP. I don’t think I’m a particularly heavy user, but I do a second wee wipe (any wetness around my bum leaves me sore and sometimes it gets that far back), which takes my number up. Plus sometimes a poo requires a good few wipes. And I think I use four sheets not three.

Easy to see how it can be a lot more.

DH blows his nose 20 times a day.

CindersAgain · 26/07/2023 12:17

Also 3 wees a day is unusual I would say.

HerMammy · 26/07/2023 12:46

A family of four only using two regular rolls per week? Are they drawing it up and spitting it out?? 👀

goldcheese · 26/07/2023 13:05

I go through 2-3 rolls a week on my own, depending on the size of the rolls. I do have an IBS type condition though.

Theoldwoman · 26/07/2023 13:10

I can’t believe you started a post about this. Surely people use what they need? It’s not like they are eating it? We go through a roll a day. 4adults, 3 of which are female.

No they either have an IBS like or similar condition, have a child/adult with a food intolerance which they may realise they have, have a child/adult who simply had a dodgy stomach, or used toilet roll for mopping up stuff.

almostoverthehill · 26/07/2023 13:43

I use one pack of the Sainsburys 247 double rolls a week. I do use the loo a lot!
(4 rolls equals 8)

I think they'd be using a heck of a lot more than two rolls a week if any of that were true.

BackupFail · 26/07/2023 13:47

You would think so... but it doesn't always work like that...

Some people thoughtlessly waste stuff. Some people don't.

EmmaMY · 26/07/2023 13:53

As always in life, people do things differently.

It’s nice to see that there are some on here that are similar to me. And I’m sure that some of the heavier users have found comfort in the fact that there are lots of you that all agree as well.

Oh and thank you to @Theoldwoman for pointing out that this is probably also the only ridiculous post on MN right now!

Wow some people don't wee much at all. I must wee about 10 times a day! I know that's a lot though.

HerMammy · 26/07/2023 14:26

@Reugny
Think you missed my point , 2 rolls for 4ppl is very little, I doubt ppl with IBS get by on 2 rolls?

Hankunamatata · 26/07/2023 14:28

We seem to go through loads. I do suspect my dc are wasteful. However new double rolls are awesome and had to buy less

Alloveragain3 · 26/07/2023 14:32

Ooh this would really irk me.
Especially as toilet paper isn't cheap at the moment.

I'd honestly have expected the original 2 rolls to be plenty for their whole stay

Motnight · 26/07/2023 14:37

This is reminiscent of the "how often do you use your washing machine?" threads. Responses vary from a family of 6 using it twice a month to a family of 2 using it twice a day!

I do love these threads though!

SirenSays · 26/07/2023 14:37

I go through loads but then I use it for everything from make up spills to cleaning the dogs eye boogers.
