Am I being unreasonable to thinks MN has become full of blokes lately?

I have been absent for a while and I am suddenly seeing lots of blokes usernames. Could yous not go and create a Dadsnet or summat so women can talk freely and openly without being monitored by men? @mumsnet

It is riddled.

Good grief. He didn't say we NEED a male perspective. Just that he's being open about the fact that he's posting as a man.

Presumably I prefer to know when a poster is male. Half the protesting posts on this thread are complaining that male posters hide their sex. Again, are you deliberately making it impossible for them to do this right?

So, let's get this straight. Do you want the men on this board to hide that they're men, or let you know that they're men?

I don't need people to tell me their sex.
A man offering what he calls a 'male perspective' is offering the opinion and experience of one man, himself. Which is not a sufficiently large sample to be meaningful. Frequently this 'male perspective' is offered to tell women they're wrong about aspects of male behaviour they have experienced and observed from countless men over decades.
'From a male perspective' women can be just as bad as men, because of this thing that happened to ME!! ...Men don't do that thing because I don't do it etc.
If a man wants to contribute to a discussion, great. The fact that he is male gives no extra weight to his opinion, so its irrelevant.
What I do find irritating are the men who actively pretend to be women to give weight to anti women sentiments.

Addicted2Kale · 25/07/2023 11:35

A "block posts from user" button would solve this problem. But I would also like to know why men (who aren't parents) are here.

saraclara · 25/07/2023 11:37

BIWI · 25/07/2023 11:19

They are there though, @saraclara - just because you don't see them, doesn't mean that isn't true.

I didn't claim that they don't exist. I've seen some. I'm just saying that they're not so frequent (outside the sex topic) as to be an issue.

BIWI · 25/07/2023 11:40

Well clearly they are, given the posts here!

Yes, it's a bit strange for men who aren't parents or about to be parents on a website about kids or women's, single dad issues. It's bizarre.
Men are welcome if it helps them understand their kids, it's why we are all here to morally support one another.

lifeturnsonadime · 25/07/2023 11:48

It's not the posts from men that bothers me it's the posts from people of either sex who are men's rights activists that rankle.

The ones that come on to tell women that their abusers are 'not that bad' or that we should give our men a certain amount of sex, or tell women they are being grabby for wanting what we are entitled to in a divorce or separation.

There are now some MRAs from across the pond coming over to tell us that we should put men's sexual rights above our right to single sex spaces. Just No.

"we are all here to morally support one another" - have you even read AIBU ?! 😂
People are here for all sorts of reasons. It's entertaining. Informative. There are plenty of sections of mn that are nothing to do with kids, women's or single dad issues.
And certainly not everyone is here to give or receive moral support, men or women.

WhamBamThankU · 25/07/2023 12:52

Should we not ask women who are childless to leave aswell then? As those women now have their own board on here.

Zippeedidodah · 25/07/2023 12:59

The by-line under the mumsnet slogan is by parents for parents take your grievance with what I've typed up with mumsnet.
Anyone coming to argue with someone else's personal opinion won't get far ill just ignore you.

Puppytrashedmysofa · 25/07/2023 13:30

Any one know of a good parents net where Dads are fully accepted I would be grateful and would be there like a shot.

Twiglets1 · 25/07/2023 13:34

Possibly controversial but seeing as Mumsnet is actually open to all I wonder if they should change the name?
I know it’s a strong brand but still, its very name could be read as excluding people who are not mums.

Jeeze. All hell would break loose if they even consider it.

If the present members can't deal with a tiny proportion of posters being male, on the false assumption that this is a women only space, they'd have apoplexy if the site was renamed Parentsnet.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 25/07/2023 13:55

Hello, bloke here. I've been here for about 13 years, so not part of any sudden influx.

The tagline of the site is "By parents for parents", so seeing as I've got a child I think I'm probably part of the target audience.

Maybe it's a good sign if there are more men around, maybe men are starting to pick up more of the slack in regards to childcare?

Although I actually found this place when looking for a solution to a plumbing issue, rather than anything parenting related!

CherryCokeFanatic · 25/07/2023 13:56

Diversity of opinion is a good thing to have imo

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/07/2023 13:57

Is that why I'm seeing more posts from child hating, parent hating Incel types here?

Lunar270 · 25/07/2023 13:57

Parentsnet

Nah, Menznet sounds much more catchy ;)

BIWI · 25/07/2023 14:06

Humans.net? So we don't include the AI bots?!

OneMoreCookieMonster · 25/07/2023 14:07

Some of the responses on here are actually hideous. Replace man or male with another race, religion or sexuality/orientation and there'd be pitch forks at dawn for the lack of inclusion and inciting hate/prejudice.

I'm not an activist in any way, shape or form but my god this is ridiculous.

Saying men who aren't parents shouldn't be on here is like saying women who aren't parents shouldn't be here either. (I feel like everyone should be welcomed) Approx 50% of the population is male. Not allowing a male prospective is limiting to us overall. Or we bang on about how men's attitudes in general need to change and be more progressive. If they aren't able to join the discussion how are they able to see the female point of view or even begin to understand it. Especially when it comes to the relationship boards. Or what about men who are suffering pregnancy loss with their partners and don't know how to respond or where to turn to for advice and guidance? Or men that just need an outlet to try and have an unbiased discussion?

MN has all covered all of this for women for decades now, everyone should be aware that there's a forum available for them.

It's views like we have above that make me want to step away from this site. I wouldn't ever keep the company of such narrow minded people in rl not sure I want to associate with those same ppl here.

Brk · 25/07/2023 14:35

YANBU. It’s so intrusive and annoying, especially the posters who begin “Well, if you want a man’s opinion…” No I don’t, that’s why I came to Mumsnet. Only creepy / dominating guys hang out on a Mums site handing out their opinions.

Still, it’s not as bad as the posters who don’t have children posting on here about how much they dislike children and are so glad they don’t have any 👀😂

They seem most interested in the sex and dating threads

This 💯
Always trying to get women to lower their bar.
If you’re not grateful for any and every male attention, then you are called angry, bitter, crazy…etc.
They also are always running to every single thread about porn/strippers, just to tell how normal and good the men are for doing it.
And women need to stop being such prudes and bores.
Often times they claim to be women.

Acornsoup · 25/07/2023 14:49

@Fightyouforthatpie

Fairly easy - game of thrones names and such. Often out themselves in comments and get overly agitated/resort to victim blaming a fair bit.

Exactly @OneMoreCookieMonster . I find it incredibly depressing, to be honest. After decades of fighting for our sex to be respected, so many of us decide to treat men in exactly the way we hated. The generalisations and the simple lack of logic here (hiding the fact you're a man = bad; being open about being a man = bad, for just one example) are really worrying. So much stupidity claiming to be feminism.

@saraclara do you honestly think that 'women are treating men in exactly the way we hated'? Do you really think that?

Are you suggesting we #bekind to creeps, pervs, mansplainers and MRAs because we know what it's like to be oppressed?

They're the types of men women don't want on MN, by the way. As has been said previously, many times.
