Dressing Up for Barbie

My 11-year-old DD is eager to watch Barbie, so I've booked tickets for tomorrow. She wants us to dress in all pink. 😊 DH has agreed to join us, but he refused to wear pink - such a party pooper! I'm curious if anyone who has been to watch Barbie saw people dressed in all pink. I don't want us to stand out too much and look cringy. 😬

I think this is a good time for the ‘You are welcome to wear what you want but it’s up to us what we wear’ conversation. I’d be well up for dressing up as a Barbie but my 10yo is going through a ‘so embarrassing’ phase and would never speak to me again 😂

Hi OP, went on Saturday and it was brilliant, probably 80% of those attending were wearing some pink and there were a few special pink outfits. I thought it was really fun!

IAmAnIdiot123 · 24/07/2023 14:17

Well I was meant to see it on Friday but went into labour instead. I absolutely wore a bright pink Barbie tshirt into the delivery suite 🤣

thaegumathteth · 24/07/2023 14:18

Dd and her friend (12) went at the weekend and wore pink but not head to toe

Upandonward · 24/07/2023 14:18

We’ve just seen it this morning and I’d say onto a small handful we’re wearing pink, but wear what you like!

AssertiveGertrude · 24/07/2023 14:19

I was out for a meal sat night and they was a table of ladies in pink sparkly outfits (this is a rural area) so i would say go for it (they were)

Needmorelego · 24/07/2023 14:19

@IAmAnIdiot123 congrats on the baby - did you name her Barbie 😂

Needmorelego · 24/07/2023 14:20

@IAmAnIdiot123 if baby was a girl obviously 😂

Esmereldapawpatrol · 24/07/2023 14:20

We went yesterday and quite a few people were. My DD (8) went all out, I put a pink t-shirt on so I was joining in with her. DS point blank refused DD's request for him to dress as Ken 😂

When I went the majority were in at least a pink top, some were pink head to toe. I saw a few men in pink t-shirts too. It was quite cute seeing everyone embracing a bit of fun. I was not in pink - I don’t own any pink clothes - but you won’t be out of place either way if you dress up or not!

NewDogOwner · 24/07/2023 14:24

Most people I saw on opening day had at least one element of pink on ( I did not) All the streets around the cinema has people with hints of pink.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/07/2023 14:31

Loads of people at our showing dressed up, male and female. We don't own any pink between the four of us but would have otherwise. It's harmless fun.

Marsh's Library in Dublin had a staff day where people came to work dressed as either Barbie or Oppenheimer (and apparently delivered their tours of the library in character....)

Or Ken. Baby Kenneth sounds quite sweet 😆

Pkhsvd · 24/07/2023 14:36

At least half were in pink when I went to see it (I wore a pink cardigan and left it at that)

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2023 14:43

DD and I were head to toe in black. Most of the rest of the cinema was in pink!

MsNevermore · 24/07/2023 14:54

I went with my daughters yesterday I’d say it was a good 50/50 mix of those who Barbiefied themselves and those who didn’t.
Me and my girls all wore light wash jeans, matching Barbie T-shirts, and I did our hair in the classic, big, bouncy, barbie ponytail with pink accessories.

Hadalifeonce · 24/07/2023 14:56

We went yesterday, didn't see anyone dressed up, the cinema was full.

ButterCrackers · 24/07/2023 15:04

No one was dressed up. I found the film to be really odd. It’s not fun. Kids smashing up baby dolls, death Barbie and then some lines about feminism. Very odd. I hated it.

Hahaha no, we had a boy 🥰 not too keen on Ken sadly hahaha!

Thank you 😊

Zanzibarz · 24/07/2023 16:56

Chuffed to know that so many folks are wearing pink. I first thought it would be just a few. Brilliant! So, I'm definitely popping on something pink tomorrow, and fingers crossed, I might even persuade my better half to join in😀

Me or dds 11 and 13 don't own a single piece of pink clothing. It's not that I don't like it. It just doesn't suit us. Well dds don't.

Zanzibarz · 24/07/2023 17:09

@blacknredsweeties I also don't have too many pink clothes. Luckily, I bought a pinkish midi dress from M&S last month. I am gonna wear that.
