Dressing Up for Barbie

My 11-year-old DD is eager to watch Barbie, so I've booked tickets for tomorrow. She wants us to dress in all pink. 😊 DH has agreed to join us, but he refused to wear pink - such a party pooper! I'm curious if anyone who has been to watch Barbie saw people dressed in all pink. I don't want us to stand out too much and look cringy. 😬

I saw it yesterday and everyone was dressed entirely normally, I didn't notice a pink theme or any dressing up as such. About 95% of the audience was female though!

Carsarelife · 24/07/2023 17:38

Saw it Saturday and loads wearing pink including some with Barbie t shirts and sweatshirts too. Go for it

catscalledbeanz · 24/07/2023 17:56

We saw it Friday and 90% of the audience was in pink (including us- and dh)

I would wear something pink if I had it but the last time I went to the cinema it was so fiecely air conditioned I kept my coat on (and I don't have a pink coat.) If I suggested it to DH he probably would frown at the idea but he does have a pair of pink shorts so i would suggest (lots of times) that he wore them! 🤣

Most of the pics i've seen of friends etc on SM have had them in various forms of pink. Also our cinema/theater has photo props set up which is cute when the little ones are dressed up (think giant pink barbie box etc).

I saw it this afternoon. Nobody was dressed up. I thought at first one man had a Ken wig but I think it was his own hair. Only two children there and I don't know what they made of it because its not a children's film. Plenty of men there, in fact I saw a group of 3 men come in together so not just coming with their partner.

I loved it and thought it was very well done. There were some heart breaking bits but maybe that's my age seeing things with a different perspective.

This is so funny 😂😂

I saw it today and a few people in pink. A family had obviously come well-prepared including the Dad as a sort-of Ken. He looked really awkward while the girls were posing for their cinema-row selfies! Most of the audience were older and not dressed up and there were plenty of guys. It wasn't really a party atmosphere, though we went at a midday screening. I went with my 11 year old son and we really enjoyed the film, it was much better than I expected.

My teenage dds went on Saturday and they and their friends dressed up, some a lot, some a little, they said pretty much everyone in the cinema wad dressed in pink /sparkles /fluffy cowboy hats 😂 anything goes by the sound of it.
I'm taking my younger dd and her friend when we're home from holidays, her and her friend have organised matching pink outfits, I will probably wear a pink tshirt I already have.

No one was dressed up. I found the film to be really odd. It’s not fun. Kids smashing up baby dolls, death Barbie and then some lines about feminism. Very odd. I hated it.

Yeah, you missed the point of the film.

DS went to see Oppenheimer last night, said cinema was very busy with pink for Barbie

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 24/07/2023 20:35

Dd1 and I have been today. She was dressed like barbie. I had pink hoodie on as it’s the only pink item of clothing I own! I’d say more than half the people there were wearing something pink.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 24/07/2023 20:38

I've not seen it yet but when I was in town on Saturday I saw a lot of people in pink, including the fabulous lady in top to toe pink pleather! I'll probably wear a pink top when I go.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/07/2023 20:39

This will explain why I saw two young women walking along the ring road yesterday afternoon in the rain dressed in bright pink clothes in a style that would normally be seen at 2 am on Saturday night, not 2 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Since then I've seen a group of tweens in pink hotpants and also a group of teen lads, most of which had pink T shirts on, one I think was dressed like Ken and another in a pink Oodie.

If you have pink clothes, wear them, but I think it's slightly ridiculous to buy something specially for a one off event that you'll likely never wear again.

2023recession · 24/07/2023 20:40

Dropped DD(16) off on Friday night and tons of people wearing pink , many men in pink tops.

i went Sunday afternoon and I’d say about a third to a half of the sold out cinema had pink on.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 24/07/2023 20:49

I'm
Planning to take my baby boy to a carers and baby showing both of us in pink ☺️😜

Needmorelego · 24/07/2023 20:58

@BarbaraofSeville This summer I am seeing a lot of people wearing pink clothes all the time. I am pleased pink has become the colour for this summer because I like pink.

Quisquam · 24/07/2023 21:02

I took DD this afternoon. The group of teenage girls in front of us, were wearing pink and white.

There were men in the audience; one I heard saying he’d come with his girlfriend (lots of mix ups over seats), however it was dark so I couldn’t see what men were wearing!

JaninaDuszejko · 24/07/2023 21:05

There was quite a lot of pink when I took my teenagers to see it on Saturday. My eldest never wears pink and so she wore her England away top, she wasn't the only one, that was as close to pink as she could cope with. DD2 and I both wore pink tops we already had.

fortnumsfinest · 24/07/2023 21:08

I was in the city centre today and you could spot the folk had been/or were going to Barbie, pink everywhere

Gingerwarthog · 24/07/2023 21:37

Yes, we went with friends and family and we all wore something pink.
Great film and dressing up (a bit) was part of 'the event'.
We're all going to wear black for Oppenheimer.
