People coming over unannounced

AIBU to absolutely HATE people coming over unannounced?
Is this normal?
Like it literally enrages me.
Just let me know. How hard is it! I would never just turn up at someones house without checking with them first.

Yep, incredibly rude.

I absolutely hate unannounced callers, it happened a few weeks ago, they stayed for over 3 hours.
They stopped by about 10 ish and left 1 ish, it was a Saturday too, I just wanted to get on with washing, housework etc.

I also had a couple who would call and stay all day... I'd lost the will to live by the time they'd gone

What gets me also are ppl who tell you they are coming round, it's not a question, these ppl annoy me also

Its not the 1960's when some people had their entire family in 1 street, no locks on doors, people walked in and out and no mobiles!

Its only MIL that arrives unannounced- and I hate it too OP! We have recently finished 2yrs of renovations and now living in the house, but still have lots which needs finishing or buying (curtains, furniture, wardrobes, painting etc)

MIL has turned up unannounced with random 'friends/acquaintances' of hers. The 1st time, DH brought them in, offered cup of tea etc. MIL then said 'well aren't you going to show them around???'

WTF! NO- I'm not going to take your random friends around MY house! She has since turned up with 2 more lots of randoms. Luckily, DH has stopped them at the gate. DH and I both WFH- so we are always here- but have cameras now!

I love visitors, unexpected or not. Take me as you find me.
Fortunately my family and friends have the same view.

I always find it sad on these threads, the number of people who post they hate friends or family dropping by "because their house is a tip / is messy" .
How low is your self esteem that you feel you have to put on a show for people that are close to you ?
When people pop in here, I assume they are coming to see me (or someone in the family), not inspect the house. Obviously, if they call on the off chance, then they aren't expecting a show home.

I had this yesterday. Knock on the door, friend just walks past me into the kitchen. I told her I’m working from home … she seems to think that means I can stop and chat whenever I want.

Had a zoom call so went off to my office …. 20 minutes later she waves in the doorway and leaves. Sends a text that evening implying that I’m a bit rude 🤷🏼‍♀️
