Why use gender when you mean Sex ?

Why do people ask the gender of their baby or have gender reveal parties ? The correct question is what sex is my baby or maybe I’m just getting totally fed up of woke nonsense.

Well sex and gender are the same thing in that you can only be male or female., in certain circumstances eg language, spirituality the concept of gender can be used separate to sex

when I was a kid, they used “gender”
as synonym with sex to stop the sniggering at the back.

Now it appears that gender is synonymous with stereotyping of )mainly women)

Again because the clinics don’t want to say sex. Because they think sex is embarrassing despite the fact that all their clients are there because they’ve had sex

Can you explain?

In wider society I don't think people care as much as they appear to on here.

Can't get past the persistent use of "woke" anyway.

Has anyone seen the new neurophen advert, its addressing the 'gender pain gap' which is about WOMEN who arent really taken seriously about their pain (which is common)

But of course it is only biological females that get this sort of response from health providers, a man pretending to be a woman would no doubt be taken very seriously in terms of his health needs, compared to women

Therefore there is a SEX pain gap, people are discriminated in health care based on their SEX

It is important because the nonsense being taught is that there are eleven billion genders ok a complete exaggeration but more than 2 is at best incorrect and at worse very damaging to women and it is mainly women affected

And? It’s still what they call them, so people throw gender reveal parties. In real life nobody is that angry about them being called gender reveal parties rather than sex reveal parties.

So if you think there are only 2 genders then what is your problem?

Gender is a stupid concept & the world would be better off without it. Women especially.

I’m a sociologist. In my 20 years of experience, it’s nothing to do with ‘woke nonsense’, it’s literally because people don’t understand the difference between them. It’s nothing to do with some woman hating conspiracy, literally just that most people weren’t taught about it at all in school and are still confused now. Combined with a lot of squeamishness about saying the word ‘sex.’ None of this is new.

Well you said there’s only 2 but you also said You don’t know your babies gender because they aren’t old enough to make a decision. Sounds like you are on both sides of the fence.

Same reason 'we're pregnant' is not biologically impossible but people are odd

I agree they are naff, so if people want to be prudish like everyone else who throws these parties then who cares? Is it worth being mad about?

Because outside the miserable world of MN there are humans inhabiting this planet who like to be happy.

Its astonishing that both pregnancy gender reveal parties and the 'choose-your-own-gender' transgender movement have boomed in popularity at the same time.

The first is basically saying that your gender is fixed - and it's pink fluffy air headed stuff for girls, blue manly stuff for boys.

The second is saying choose whichever gender you want.

Both are huge backward steps for women.

Good luck with that when you’re paid less because pay rates are based on gender not sex, when your mum receives intimate care from a man with a beard, when you can’t get hrt because it’s gone to self id’ing men, when your daughter misses out on a sports scholarship and your sister misses out on cervical screening because it’s too expensive to invite everyone and problematic to invite women. No domestic violence refuges because they can’t exclude men and don’t go to prison unless you want to share a cell with a rapist.

That’s what came up when I asked about gender so it has nothing to do with anatomical sex just sexual preference hence my statement you can’t have a gender reveal party as your baby is too young to make a decision @TeaKitten

To be honest, I actually think it's a good thing - there are two sexes, male and female. The average person knows that and also ascribes gender to mean the same thing- ie there are two, male or female, masculine or feminine. It's just proof that people ultimately aren't blind or stupid and can see the distinction between male or female, no matter what pronouns a person is displaying or what they are wearing or how they try to present themselves. The 'new' meaning of gender is just total nonsense and would be better termed as personality, not an identity.
