Friend topless in front of DH

Went to a friend's house - just her, me and DH. I went to the loo. When I came back in the room, she was breastfeeding her 8-month-old.

She'd removed whole top and bra on both sides, so was topless, with the non-feeding boob not covered up by baby. DH was doing a decent job of keeping his eyes on her face though 🤣

AIBU to think that's a bit odd?

I know I can't ever comment to her. Just wondered what to make of it privately, especially since she's always been a wee bit flirty with DH.

But I've never breastfed... so maybe this is normal, or maybe I'm just a prude. Would you breastfeed alone with a friend's DH? And if so would you cover up more than this?

My cousin would be mortified if you whipped yours out in front of her husband. She doesn't have children of her own and she hates the sight of breast feeding women.

I'd get it if it were a newborn and awkward to feed discreetly but at 8 months that's just weird.

By then bf is established, it's easy to cover up.

i have spent lots of time around breastfeeding women and want to train to be a breastfeeding mentor. I have seen lots of ladies in all sorts of different states of undress around other people. I would not be shocked if someone stripped to the waist.

As I said earlier, having both breasts out was recommended to my by the infant feeding team. Would I have done it in front of a man? No, but not because I was ashamed or embarrassed but because I wouldn’t have wanted to embarrass a man. I’ve done it around women though and female family meme era and not given a fuck.

That’s really sad. It’s such a shame that people can’t not sexualise feeding a baby. Breastfeeding rates are so low in the U.K. and it’s attitudes like some of the ones on this thread which really don’t help.

I think that's the reason why she is so miserable now. She loves to gossip and is always in other people's business. Who knows if she had children she may have mellowed.

This is wierd and I and everyone I know has BF and never done this, you can barely see anything. She wanted your DH to look at her. I'd have left tbh and wouldn't see her for a while. Why are you friends with someone who flirts with DH anyway? Dump her 🤷‍♀️

This reminds me that years ago in a children's outdoor play/farm area there was a woman breastfeeding a toddler right in the middle of a pathway- she was also topless. People could get round her, but it was just so bizarre .

I wonder if she'd have taken her top off and had tits hanging out in front of her male family members, or at a restaurant? Unlikely. So, perfectly able to not do that when guests are around.

Uhh normally I would be pro breastfeeding but this is totally inappropriate.

Think it's a bit werid but at the end of the day, she's just feeding her baby. If your husbands uncomfortable, then leave him at home next time.

I had a friend that did the same but even before the baby was an attention seeker. I think there are ways to breastfeed, even with your top pretty much off, in company and in a non seeking attention way, because I’ve seen it done.

In the new born days sometimes there is a bit of needing to be topless to get the right position, but by 8 months it's usually really sorted and you can feed easily without showing much..

Sounds very weird to me. I wouldn't regard it as sexual taunting, more of a "aren't I a good mother breastfeeding" flaunting. Inappropriate anyway.

The only woman I know who did this was tandem feeding twins.

I am not as ultra cool as the posters on here who think it is normal behaviour. It is not normal or cool to do this, and I still maintain that it is very "look at me".

But there is absolutely nothing sexy about breast feeding so I really doubt she was trying to lure him in with leaking boobs.

I would have breastfed like this when I'm at home as I used to switch sides a lot. However, I wouldn't have done this with guests! She may have just not even thought about it as she was in the comfort of her own home. Or, she could have been trying to entice your husband with her exposed breast lol

I have never known anyone get their whole kit off the top half of their body to breastfeed. No-one ever caught more than the merest hint of boob when I was feeding any of mine - not because I was ashamed or embarrased, but because I didn't want people gawping.

I would have said something like 'bloody hell, friend, aren't you chilly sat there half naked?'

I breastfed in front of friends, but getting both boobs out is weird. For one thing, my free side would be pouring milk. I had to use breast shells to catch the deluge.

Not sure anyone is going to agree with me on this but it’s depressing how sexualised people think this is. She was feeding her kid, should be allowed to do that without judgment

to the average woman, the idea of breast feeding being ‘sexy’ is ridiculous.

But just as you get performance parenting- it’s not a stretch to have performance breast feeders.

Possibly an indecisive child.

I can see how you might get boob A out and be feeding - switch to boob B - and forget that Boob A was still out -
but to be talking about it - with them out is odd.

I don't think it would be flaunting or flirty tho
