To ask what Nordic country you would move to, if forced?

Just that really. Bored on a Saturday evening and wonder what others might think! What would be your number one choice, ranking from favourite to least. For reference the Nordic countries are Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and Finland.

Denmark. DH has family there. Seems like it would be easier to visit other places in Europe. I've never been there though and have no idea what it's actually like!

IveHadItUpToHere · 16/07/2023 02:23

Denmark. I like Sweden but found the Danes friendlier.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 16/07/2023 02:26

Sweden probably as Stockholm is a very beautiful and friendly city but tbh if someone offered me a new life in any of them I would seriously consider taking it.

30rockpage · 16/07/2023 02:44

Norway, it's been my my dream for years to move there one day.

mathanxiety · 16/07/2023 03:25

It would be a toss up between Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Finland is just too far north overall, and Iceland too, though I'd visit Iceland in a heartbeat.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/07/2023 03:51

I would absolutely hate to have to live somewhere even colder than the UK, but if I had to, then Iceland. The people seem charmingly bonkers.

ConsuelaHammock · 21/07/2023 14:05

After a couple of days in Copenhagen I have to admit it’s a beautiful city. Not sure about living there but I’ll love to return some day. Expensive but not as expensive as Norway.

spir1t · 21/07/2023 14:10

None of them! London is far north enough.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/07/2023 14:16

We lived in Copenhagen for 20 months- very liveable city, pricey but not as bad as Norway, we liked Sweden too

Lordofmyflies · 21/07/2023 14:22

Iceland. I love the countryside, horses, food, spas and people. The sense of social justice and responsibility. The cost of living isn't that different to the UK now either!

itsmyp4rty · 21/07/2023 14:22

All far too cold in winter and too expensive for me to ever want to live there. But Iceland is probably the one I like most. Haven't been to Finland though.

supersonicspeed · 21/07/2023 14:23

Norway and noone would have to force me! I could start packing today 🤣

LlynTegid · 21/07/2023 14:25

Denmark.

pandora206 · 21/07/2023 14:29

Based on short visits to the Nordic capitals, I'd choose Denmark. I loved the vibe in Copenhagen: stylish people who cycle, a focus on design and natural materials, and an emphasis on order and efficiency. And apparently, the Danes are one of the happiest nationalities too, not to mention Danish pastries.

For a great read/listen, try The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell. It's an easy fun read that gives an insight into the lives of a couple of Brits who move to Denmark.

Katiesaidthat · 21/07/2023 14:31

I´m glad you added the caveat "if forced", I wouldn´t move to any of them, thanks. But for argument´s sakes, to Denmark. You can drive to other countries easily and need not fly and I just don´t do ultra freezing winters. Also hate skying.

LittleRedYarny · 21/07/2023 14:33

Finland, Finland, Finland! (The country where I want to bePony trekking or camping or just watching T.V. Finland , Finland , Finland. It's the country for me…)

AffIt · 21/07/2023 14:36

Denmark in a heartbeat.

My OH spent a year working there, we've visited, have friends there including my Danish former flatmate, I speak a tiny smattering of Danish (not much, but certainly more than my Swedish / Norse / Finnish!).

I like it a lot.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/07/2023 14:39

Norway.

MissyB1 · 21/07/2023 14:39

Denmark definitely 😊

thousandbirds · 21/07/2023 14:41

Well I live in Sweden but love all of those countries tbh. It takes me less than an hour to drive to Copenhagen which we often do, but there are so many lovely places outside of there too.

MzHz · 21/07/2023 14:42

I move heaven and earth to swim in the Allas (heated) pool in Helsinki

love it, love the Finns! English is spoken widely and freely and there’s such an international feeling to the place.

not sure about the darkness or the -15c days

liked Norway too, but it seems expensive.

I’ve only ever been to both these places on work assignments so not for long or in too greater depth

VeridicalVagabond · 21/07/2023 14:42

Norway, but I'm fairly biased as husband is from there and we go once a year anyway 😄

Finland is also lovely though!

Onelastwaltz · 21/07/2023 14:46

Finland!

gingerguineapig · 21/07/2023 14:47

Any of them but probably Denmark.

Denmark Finland Norway Sweden

Snoken · 21/07/2023 14:47

As a Swede who returned to Sweden last year after 20 years abroad (UK included) I say Stockholm!

It's completely mosquito free in the city and I sleep with my window open every night this time of year. I love the light summers (imagine picknicking in virtual daylight at midnight and then go for a swim). I also love the dark winters when everyone light up their windows and balconies with beautiful lights and all the snow makes it lighter too. For a capital city it is very outdoorsy with skislopes, ice skating rinks and frozen lakes, cross country skiing tracks, canoeing, kayaking, beaches, cycling lanes, sail boats, fishing etc.
