Men walking around with their hands down trousers

Why do men walk around with their hands down their trousers.

It's disgusting and I see it all the time.

AIBU to think something should be said and done about it?

The picture in the OP is weird and otherworldly to me, where are his legs??
He is stood on the other side of the wall. It looks blended in.

Yet I can't help but feel that negates the issue that people should be able to wear, within reason, what they want. Imagine somebody telling a young woman to stop getting the short shorts out of her crack or to stop yanking her mini skirt down. I think we would see some double standards

Conkersinautumn · 16/07/2023 11:00

@SuffolkUnicorn And university of Warwick students, or are students core underclass to you, rather than just average Joe's?

GettingStuffed · 16/07/2023 11:02

Nothing like a game of pocket billiards

Conkersinautumn · 16/07/2023 11:04

People can wear what they want but actively manipulating your genitals in public is a line too far for me!

TrishM80 · 16/07/2023 11:13

I don't see it where I'm from but I can't discount the anecdotal evidence from this thread!

Surely it should fall under some sort public decency law?! If police were empowered to hand out cautions to these little grunts anytime they were caught with their hands down their keks, it might hammer home the message that it's unacceptable behaviour in public.

Plus I doubt they'd want to contest it in court, not with police cam recordings of them fondling their privates being put on the public record! 😆

But a quick fumble, to stop knickers from riding up or to pull a skirt down, or to wiggle a bra underwire, or to adjust genitalia within underwear, is not the same as sitting walking round with a hand down trousers for a long while.

I remember going to a funeral of an elderly relation, and as we walked down the street to the church, my tights started migrating downwards. I spent most of the service holding them up through my dress. At no point did I need to keep my hand under my clothing (though i did covet pockets at that point.) If you can't wear clothes without keeping your hands out of them, they probably aren't clothes you should be wearing.

If she's having to "yank" her mini skirt down, it's clearly too short so wear something longer. If someone is constantly having to remove their tiny shorts from their genitals, wear underwear and stop wearing such tight fitting items. We all make choices

This was taken in a car park and the bollard was in the way. He was having a smoke outside a business.... I assume to go back into work.

Echoing a couple of previous posters, my relative used to work in a prison and said it originates from prisoners being given jogging bottoms with no pockets and so putting their hands down the waistband instead and quite often when I see people do it they are the undesirables that have definitely spent time in prison. Haven’t seen anyone in a suit doing it though (thank god)

How can you tell that someone has been in prison just by looking at them?

PonyPatter44 · 16/07/2023 11:38

They've either been in prison or want people to think they have.

I also like to tell prisoners to get their hands out of their pants before we talk. Have also had words with the worst offenders, about the sort of men who fiddle with their genitals in front of females, and how there is a word for those men, and they do not want that word applied to them, do they? Invariably they yank their hands out of their pants at the speed of light. Sometimes being a grumpy old middle-aged mum figure really helps!

TattyOne · 16/07/2023 11:44

I think it's absolutely vile! Same when they're sitting down doing it!

If they want to w*k they should do it in private, not public!

But if I was to be in public with my hand down my bra playing with my boobs I'd be done for some sort of indecent exposure!

No it doesn't.

What’s worse is when they remove their hands briefly for a sniff of said hands before returning to their groinal position

Daphnis156 · 16/07/2023 13:32

I don't see this much, thank goodness.

I have no idea what could be done about it!

Didn't the Victorians chain their hands together, and lock the offending area in a metal box, so it could not be touched?

RatatouilleAndFeta · 16/07/2023 07:48

I don't understand your comment

Here goes, tinky (means disgusting) trackie brigade (means the grey joggers type that hang about McDonald's) pissy fingers (means if you have your hand cupping your genitalia that you urinate from odds on the transfer of traces of urine will have made it on to your fingers and then consume said take away food with unclean fingers).

Because I live in a small town and know them/went to school with them.

I'm going to sound like a weird SW type now. IME it's a tiny bit more complicated for some young men.

When I worked with homeless young people I remember the weirdest phenomenon. They'd be outside in the world, limpy walking, hand down pants, sucking their teeth and scowling. Then they'd come in the door of the house and it was like 10 years fell off them, they were children agin, asking what was for dinner and was there a pudding. Like a basket of adorable puppies, all enthusiastic and sweet.

South London was scarier for them than it was for me. Being very young and Black and male means everyone is out to get you, or use you, or hassle you. At least for my white, female, older arse the police, shopkeepers and security weren't an issue.

It's camouflage. Still disgusting though.

PonyPatter44 · 16/07/2023 18:14

No, I know exactly what you mean, MrsTP. You see the same behaviour in a lot of younger prisoners- they'll give you serious attitude in front of their peers, but as soon as you get them in an office on their own, with the door shut... you get tears, smiles, honest conversations, the full wotsit. Sometimes even the nastiest lads inside just want their mum, or the nearest thing to her, for a bit.

I can raise you on this OP, Ive seen a man walking down a busy street in the middle of the day, very clearly wanking himself off under his joggers. There were even kids around. 🤮

🧐🧐🧐😂😂😂

Im not really triggered by hands down joggers, or even a bit of restless fiddling (not wanking!) but sniffing hands....that would bother me. A lot.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/07/2023 23:21

A quick tuck is not what we're talking about.

It's wandering the streets with their hands constantly down their pants. If uncomfortable underwear was the issue, it would be all women doing it. But it's all men.

True, I see your point.
I can't see why they do it then

TomorrowToday · 17/07/2023 09:00

@TheShellBeach because I've seen 14 year olds do it

It just makes them look completely gormless and repulsive. I guess at least women know to avoid that dating someone like this!
