To not know how the hell to turn on this shower??

Posting for traffic hoping someone can help!

Moved into a house with a shower over bath combo thing. I can’t get the bloody shower to turn on!

On the left side of the control is an on/off dial with a white button you have to press in to rotate it. But it won’t rotate. It just stays stuck on “off”.

On the right side of the control is a temperature dial, also with white button, and this turns around fine.

Anyone used a shower like this and can tell me I’m being a moron? I’m sure the answer is obvious and I’m just not seeing it 😂

Push the button on top at the same time as twisting it.

anywherebutthere · 15/07/2023 20:17

Sorry just read that you tried that. Maybe it's broken?

Westfacing · 15/07/2023 20:19

Could the water to the shower be controlled by the bath taps?

Curiosity101 · 15/07/2023 20:22

Have you tried turning it in both directions?

HappiDaze · 15/07/2023 20:22

Maybe press both buttons in at the same time on either side whilst turning it to on to turn it on

JammyDodgeMe · 15/07/2023 20:22

Reminds me of the shower I struggled to use in the US.

If I recall, I had to divert the water from the bath taps to the shower by twisting the round thing on the overflow hole on the bath. Good luck.

bellac11 · 15/07/2023 20:23

It sounds broken

But this thread gives me the chance to make my regular holiday rant about why showers are so mysterious and difficult, with stupid controls that you cant see if you wear glasses (and therefore dont have them on) and cant use with slippery wet soapy hands.

There.

Lottylove · 15/07/2023 20:25

Is there a leaver on the bath taps that you pull up perhaps, to change the water from the bath to the shower? It might stay at off until there’s water to come through?

dustofneptune · 15/07/2023 20:25

Going to try your suggestions now! Thank you! Will update! 😫

These types of taps always go backwards to what I expect. Have you tried twisting it both ways?

Diversion · 15/07/2023 20:28

One side will be the temperature (thermostat) control, the other will be the on/off. If it isn't working at all then it is likely broken or the water has been turned off perhaps.

Barney1234 · 15/07/2023 20:31

If its an electric shower the isolater switch might be turned off? There might be a switch outside or above the bathroom door?

BettySundaes · 15/07/2023 20:31

@bellac11 omg that is so me too, how complicated can some showers be, I always have someone else go first to work it out. You either drown or get a dribble and getting the temperature sorted is such a gamble then add in the myopia!!!

Ilovegardens · 15/07/2023 20:34

There's usually a plunger on the bath taps that you have to push down to stop the water running out of the bath taps and make the water come up to the shower. You can then twiddle the ends ofvyhe shower taps.

dustofneptune · 15/07/2023 20:35

Bahhh, it’s still not working

Have tried all the suggestions - turning both at the same time, turning in the other direction, etc.

Looks a bit like the one in the caravan I'm in at the minute. If you're facing the shower the left side turns to actually turn on the water then the right side turns to control the temperature and you have to push in the button to get it into the 'hot' water zone.

dustofneptune · 15/07/2023 20:35

That’s what I thought too! No plunger thing though that I can see!

It's like mine. The right hand control turn up or down to control heat.

The left turn on fully for water.

waterst · 15/07/2023 20:36

Looks like our shower. Are you rotating it towards you?

Westfacing · 15/07/2023 20:36

Turn a bath tap on and pull up that round knob in the middle of the bar.

That’s basically it yep! Same type. I think it must be broken then aghhh

OP, mine gets v stiff (the temp control side). I have to sometimes use a towel to grip and turn it

Are you getting no water at all?

wrigglewriggles · 15/07/2023 20:37

Have you checked the shower head? I have a similar shower and thought it wasn't working. Turn out my eldest had played around with the shower head settings and found the one which stops all the water coming through.

dustofneptune · 15/07/2023 20:38

waterst · 15/07/2023 20:36

Yep! Towards me, from the off position to the on - but it won’t budge (on that side)

The temperature side (on the right) rotates just fine

What happens when you turn that dial in the bath?
