To not know how the hell to turn on this shower??

Posting for traffic hoping someone can help!

Moved into a house with a shower over bath combo thing. I can’t get the bloody shower to turn on!

On the left side of the control is an on/off dial with a white button you have to press in to rotate it. But it won’t rotate. It just stays stuck on “off”.

On the right side of the control is a temperature dial, also with white button, and this turns around fine.

Anyone used a shower like this and can tell me I’m being a moron? I’m sure the answer is obvious and I’m just not seeing it 😂

Button does push in - but yeah the handle (dial? whatever it is) doesn't rotate even with the button pushed in

I will try WD40, vinegar, and swear words

Try turning it with a rubber glove from your kitchen or similar. A towel won’t give you much grip if it’s stuck but a rubber glove will. Works a treat on stubborn lids on jars and bottles too.

dustofneptune · 15/07/2023 22:24

Thanks you guys! I will see if I can get it to turn - otherwise looks like a plumber will be needed

I'm glad it's not just me who is often baffled by shower controls - I often come away feeling inadequate... 🌹

I am Late to this but I knew it was a Mira as it’s the same version as my last one, and very similar to current Mira one. The current one doesn’t have the little bobble on it.

hope you get it sorted. On a plus side if you have to replace it, the pipe work on my old and new Mira was the same distance apart so the exchange was easy.

How long ago did you move in?is there not a thing that you can complain if something wasn't declared as broken?

Reminds me of the shower I struggled to use in the US.

If I recall, I had to divert the water from the bath taps to the shower by twisting the round thing on the overflow hole on the bath. Good luck.

This ^ probably. It looks like there is a knob where the overflow is, try turning that.

Jubaju · 16/07/2023 06:30

It might need the cartridge replacing if you can’t turn it at all, as someone said they get seized up with limescale. If it’s really stiff I wouldn’t keep trying to turn it as might get be harder to turn off again.

BeverlyBrook · 16/07/2023 06:57

Viakal. Soak it for ages. I reckon it's seized up with limescale

Tzimi · 10/09/2023 15:27

@dustofneptune The valve may be clogged up with limescale, in which case your best bet is probably to replace the whole mixer valve. If the outlets are 15cm apart, you can get loads of new valves to suit for not much money. Just turn off the water & unscrew the 3/4" nuts. Then screw in the new one with new washers, & job done!

KrazyboutKillian · 10/09/2023 15:34

I have that shower , the left hand side as you face it , turns towards you .
it can be difficult to turn and sometimes I use a towel to get more grip .

Tzimi · 10/09/2023 15:45

@dustofneptune Fit one like this! I have one, & it's extremely easy to use, even if your eyes are closed. Just pull the lever towards you to turn it on, & rotate to the right to make water cloder, & left to make it hotter.

RuthW · 10/09/2023 16:13

I have one the same. Right hand is temp. Left. hand is on off. Turn it towards you to switch on.

Tzimi · 10/09/2023 16:25

@dustofneptune You don't need a plumber! Just buy a new valve from Screwfix (cheaper than a plumber) for about £60. Turn off the water. Unscrew the backnuts. Replace the fibre washers, & offer up the new valve to the pipe outlets. Tighten the backnuts & turn on the water again!

I’d say she’s figured it out now almost 2 months on
