To feel absolutely disgusted eating eggs

Mummy2022FT · 15/07/2023 12:58

I love eggs made any way and this is why this upsets me.

But this morning (and has happened many times before) I was eating egg on toast for breakfast and half way through eating I was like ERRRR because I then realised what eggs actually are.

Anyone else?

no. but my eggs get thoroughly cleaned (first multisurface wipes to get rid of any gunk, then rinsed with soap and water) before they go anywhere near my egg basket

Soconfusedandbroken · 16/07/2023 00:06

Vegetarian here. Absolutely cannot eat an egg!! Gives me the ick!
Can’t look at a raw one either. Feel a bit gaggy if I do

MeinKraft · 15/07/2023 23:55

Yeah it's more like a chickens placenta. Well the yolk is the placenta and the white is the amniotic fluid.

And some women choose to eat their placenta

Isn't that just going to remove the egg's natural protection? Quite apart from the plastic waste and the batshittery of polishing one's eggshell...

An egg I had recently had been laid in some fresh horse shit.

There’s nothing immature about a different perspective

That an egg is a period?

Different is one word I suppose

Eggs are the period of a hen

No they are not

Wind your neck in

Bit over the top

I don't like to think about them too much whilst I'm eating them. I think my issue came from having children and seeing a fetus develop with a yolk sack then egg yolks.

I do get really put off if they have the 'blood bit' in the yolk. What is that anyway? Does that mean that the egg has been fertilised?

I am so ignorant regarding eggs! I remember being really excited to try my first duck egg fresh from the farm... Didn't like it 🤣

Hellokittymania · 16/07/2023 02:21

I have never liked eggs, I’ve never given a thought to where they come from, but I can’t stand the smell, taste the texture etc. Same goes for products made with egg or I can tell it is egg, a.k.a. mayonnaise etc.

Eggs are the period of a hen

Chickens don’t menstruate. They don’t have a uterus.

To feel absolutely disgusted eating egg

I’m absolutely disgusted by the stupidity.

Coolhwip · 16/07/2023 05:51

Another thread full of people dramatically announcing they don’t like a food. No one cares.

DogUnderFoot · 16/07/2023 05:57

Eating eggs is like running off the cliff in a cartoon.

You must never look down.

Why? What's wrong with how an egg looks?

Oysterbabe · 16/07/2023 06:48

It's not a period fgs, it's an egg.

londonrach · 16/07/2023 06:51

No, my chickens like to be thanked for the eggs (they gift them to us and complain if we don't thank them) and it's only right to eat them. Don't see the problem

Be all snobby if you want about processed foods but remember that lots of meat products are also highly processed and being vegetarian doesn’t automatically mean you start shoveling down UPF!

This does not apply to eggs at all so I'm not sure what your point is?

No it doesn’t. And yet someone brought it up so I responded. HTH

I thought it was eggs vs vegan protein sources, nothing to do with meat?

I meant more along the lines of 'never question WHAT you are doing Grin

MrsToothyBitch · 16/07/2023 08:15

Chickens don't have periods. How eggs are made and where they come from has never bothered me but I think they're revolting in most forms as food.

I don't cook - and won't allow others to cook- most forms of egg in my house. Fried, poached, coddled, baked scrambled, boiled or hardboiled are all banned. The vile stink is intolerable and the resultant messes repulse the rest of my senses too. The line seems to be the forn they're in after cooking as I bake with them, and use them for egg washing and mixing in to things as a binding agent but they don't have that awful smell or texture in these dishes. My grandma and female cousin feel the same but my mum & aunt can eat them fine so maybe there's a genetic component?

The last time someone hopefully asked for a fried egg in my house I told them they were welcome to do it themselves and clean up afterwards - with all the windows open, once I was sat in the garden!

I think eggs are quite a long way from the ‘never question what it actually is’ end of foodstuffs.

WedTheBed · 16/07/2023 08:18

The only times I can eat eggs without gagging is in a scotch egg, or dipping things into the yolk (leaving the white)

the white bit makes me feel sick, the texture makes me feel grim.

Agreed. I can happily eat an egg while thinking about what it is. Most nutrition comes from the yolk which is the nutrition source for a developing chick if fertilised. It makes a lot of sense to eat it!

It's more that lots of people react badly to soy. It doesn't go down well in the guts.

This is true. I'm not vegetarian but have trued meat substitutes in the past and they triggered my IBS.

Rubyupbeat · 16/07/2023 08:27

How can anyone who feels like that, not realise the process of meat and how cruel and dick that is?

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/07/2023 08:29

tt9 · 15/07/2023 23:57

no. but my eggs get thoroughly cleaned (first multisurface wipes to get rid of any gunk, then rinsed with soap and water) before they go anywhere near my egg basket

That will reduce the protective coating and reduce the storage time. They will need to be kept in the fridge.
