To feel absolutely disgusted eating eggs

Mummy2022FT · 15/07/2023 12:58

I love eggs made any way and this is why this upsets me.

But this morning (and has happened many times before) I was eating egg on toast for breakfast and half way through eating I was like ERRRR because I then realised what eggs actually are.

Anyone else?

Eggs are not the period of a hen.

There isn't really a direct equivilent to female human anatomy because we don't grow our fetuses outside of our bodies.

Maybe, at a stretch, the embryonic stage where there's a yolk and sac, but not even then as most hen's eggs are unfertilised.

I'm fine with offal though (thymus and pancreas - yum!) so nah, eggs don't faze me.

RedLem0nade · 15/07/2023 13:16

Nope. I have hens- they’ll happily eat their own damaged eggs, so if it works for them!

If you called a burger- “sandwich of minced carcass of a murdered cow” it wouldn’t sound so appetising either.

MissPop · 15/07/2023 13:16

They smell too.

But I don’t care, I still love them. Lovely! 🥚

HarlanPepper · 15/07/2023 13:18

I know what you mean OP! But they are also delicious and versatile, so I try not to think about it.

Loveys · 15/07/2023 13:18

female period not human

EmeraldFox · 15/07/2023 13:20

They are nothing like a period. A period is the lining of the womb, blood and tissue. An egg consists of the yolk, which provides nutrition to the embryo, and the white which is mostly water and protects the yolk.

TheKeatingFive · 15/07/2023 13:21

Nope. I adore eggs - I have at least one every day.

yellowsmileyface · 15/07/2023 13:21

IMO, something has to either look, smell, or taste disgusting in order for me to perceive it as such. Eggs do not fulfil this criteria.

I don't believe anything is intrinsically disgusting, so to say that something is "actually quite disgusting when you think about it" doesn't make sense to me. I shouldn't have to really think about something to see it's disgust factor, it should just be obvious in it's look, smell, or taste. I don't believe in something being conceptually disgusting.

Although to clarify I'm talking specifically about the definition of disgusting that means eliciting a disgust response, rather than the definition that's synonymous with bad or inappropriate.

I love eggs, but encountered balut in the Phillippines @CC4712 - lord almighty!

Ok

Production of eggs causes so much cruelty and suffering, good for you for thinking about where they come from.

You can swap them out for tofu and sprinkle some special salt called kala namak or black salt on it which gives it the eggy taste. 🙂

You can buy it at indian food stores or specialty spice stores.

bobblyjob · 15/07/2023 13:36

They are gross and make me feel nauseous. Especially when they have those little bits in 😑

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 15/07/2023 13:45

You're being ridiculous. Hens don't have periods. They lay their eggs to be incubated outside the body. They don't have wombs and therefore no womb lining to shed.

I keep chickens and client possibly allow every egg to hatch. If I don't eat the eggs then they go to waste.

No you can’t. There is no comparison between the nutrition in an egg and in tofu. I’m

DressDilemma · 15/07/2023 13:46

Used to love eggs and ate at least two a day till my late thirties. Live omelette counter at hotels used to be my happy place. And then I started getting grossed out for no discernible reason. Couldn't stand the eggy smell. Suddenly the little brown/red bits in the eggs started making me want to throw up. And on one occasion I actually threw up when I detected a tiny piece of egg shell in my French toast. Now I find myself unable to eat eggs in any shape or form, which is really sad as that means I don't eat most cakes, croissants and a vast array of baked goods. Breakfast is a lot more boring now.

Wallywobbles · 15/07/2023 13:47

Hens only have one hole for starters so everything comes out the one orifice.

1 egg takes 24 hours to get from top to bottom. Shell goes on last.

One comes out a day when they are laying which is linked to light and age. But there's always one en route. 20 to 30 are ready to become eggs at any one time. If you have a cockerel all the eggs are fertilized.

Not anything like periods. Very occasionally you'll get a broody hen who stays on the eggs. Then you get chicks if she remembers to stay put and doesn't get disturbed.

riotlady · 15/07/2023 13:50

Surely the closest equivalent to a chicken egg in human anatomy is just… an unfertilised egg? A period is the lining of a womb, which a chicken doesn’t have, so utterly irrelevant

How do you male a fried egg out of tofu?

Lammveg · 15/07/2023 13:57

Egg ick is real

RecycleMePlease · 15/07/2023 13:58

It's not a period - there's no blood or waste tissue involved.

It's just the ovulation - just the egg, same as a human's egg but significantly larger because it has to have everything included to support the development of the chick.

Boomboom22 · 15/07/2023 14:02

Upf and fake vegan food, as well as tofu quorn or soya gives me the ick and if eaten by mistake makes me ill. Eggs are proper food.

FloweryName · 15/07/2023 14:03

I got the ick with eggs too. I’m a hypocrite though because I will still happily eat them as an ingredient in cake, but wouldn’t eat an egg that still looks like an egg.

FourChimneys · 15/07/2023 14:03

The disgustingness of eggs is one of the reasons I am vegan.

I haven't eaten eggs, either in their own right or as a ingredient, for over 30 years. In a recent detailed health check I was described as astonishingly healthy for my age so I assume I have done ok.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/07/2023 14:04

Nope, never think about it. Same when I tuck into lamb etc.
I’m not fussed.

Really fancy egg on toast now.
