To think personal hygiene caused this

So say someone has developed a HUGE inward abscess on their bottom, really close to their sphincter. Been to hospital etc, it needs to soften before then can lance/drain. Said person showers after work, never at weekends… however for the last 5 weeks they have been out of work whilst waiting for site progression (they can’t do their job until other jobs are completed etc), so have only showered if they are attending something. So let’s say out of 5 weeks of not working I estimate 2 showers…. (Yup grim).
Now they have this anal abscess and the fluid leaking out literally smells of Faeces. They are saying it’s NOTHING to do with personal hygiene, I think it really is. HELP!!’

@pillsthrillsandbellyache I didn't read that bit sorry. Yes it sounds exhausting.

Thirty years in and mine looks puzzled if you tell him his breath can strip paint and he needs to sort it.

Thing is, it's a never ending reminding and checking process and I can't always be bothered.

Ugh think you have just experienced the mumsnet shower nazis!
and in the real world. . . People do t always shower twice a day or shock horror even once a day! The sciency types on this thread seem to be saying it can’t have helped but hadn’t caused it. Hope his arse and your mental good health regarding him are all ok

So 30 years of disrespect for you? Sigh.

Thanks for all input!! He’s seeing someone about his mental health etc next week so that’s a start.
Update on the abscess, it turned into a nasty ulcer thing and he’s been in hospital since yesterday morning. Had surgery today and is in agony. He knows he needs to do better with his hygiene. If nothing else it will make him feel better about himself. Again thanks! Hopefully he’s on the road to recovery (both physically and mentally)!!

Thanks for updating, OP, surgery sounds awful, but getting help with MH very positive, so hopefully something has come out of this thread which must have been hard to read. Well done for sticking it out and coming back.

Yes a hygiene and environment thing. Twice in five weeks. I’d feel minging going down to 2 showers a week. Do they smell? They must smell.
