Heavy rectal bleeding and tummy pain - pics in comments (TMI)

I have Crohn’s disease with previous bowel surgery

I’ve been in a flare up for months with high inflammation

this past week I’ve been bleeding every day quite heavily, dark blood

my stomach is really hurting, have taken pain killers but not helping

saw doctor today, I’ve been fobbed off by the hospital so many times and explained that to her. She said my heart rate is very high and that im ‘teetering on the edge’ of things becoming bad, but that i could wait to see how it goes over the weekend but if I feel myself getting any worse go to the hospital, she has done an urgent referral to gastro & IBD team

pain is horrible, can’t get myself to the hospital as toddler is asleep and don’t want to disturb him.

asked my mum for advice and she is telling me the hospital will do nothing I’m just in a flare, I’ll be sitting there ages and there’s no point (she’s made me feel like im being over the top)

I’ve attached pictures of what’s going on. Just wondering if there’s anyone on here with IBD that could advise? Or anyone who’s been in this situation?

don’t want to waste time & I am in a flare but this feels different

if you’re squeamish don’t look!

Sorry bleeding that much and being in pain, I would absolutely go to a&e.

TheoTheopolis23 · 14/07/2023 18:22

In not a medical professional, but I would advise you to go to the hospital.

Can someone look after you toddler?

bleedingbum · 14/07/2023 18:25

Only my Mum @TheoTheopolis23 and she is saying no because she’s tired

My Mum had Crohn’s her whole life and had 3 bowel resections due to it. You must go to hospital.

Goldenboysmum · 14/07/2023 18:26

I'm not sure what "normal" bleeding would be for you but that would scare the hell out of me!

I'd go to A&E, can your mum look after the wee one?

Xrays · 14/07/2023 18:27

If you really have no other childcare you will have to take the children with you and they will have to arrange emergency foster care. It happens more than you think. You can’t leave it like this.

bleedingbum · 14/07/2023 18:28

Sorry @Xrays i haven’t been clear - my partner is here to take me and have DC in the car, but my mum is saying it’s bad to be driving my DS around in this weather

Zanatdy · 14/07/2023 18:28

If it’s dark blood isn’t that more serious? I know it is generally but not sure re your condition. Ok for your mum to say ‘it’s just a flare’, she’s not the one suffering and as mother of a toddler you need to make sure you’re around for her, don’t take any risks. Keep us updated

Maztek · 14/07/2023 18:30

Why do you care what your mum thinks are you not an adult? You need to go to hospital and your partner needs to look after your child

Don’t listen to her. She doesn’t have your best interests at heart clearly!

bleedingbum · 14/07/2023 18:30

Yes I am an adult. Just difficult relationship and not well enough for an argument

To be fair if you’re in severe pain that isn’t easing with painkillers and passing blood you wouldn’t be wrong to ring 999. Then they’d stabilise you with pain relief and take you in.

Your mum sounds very caring and considerate. Please go to hospital.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 14/07/2023 18:34

I have Crohn’s disease, I absolutely would be in an and e right now! Take a hot water bottle and whatever else you need to get through, but get yourself there. Probably quicker to drive than ring an ambulance and as you’re able to get there then that’s better too, but get going!

Sending you lots of whatever you need to get through this.

Bearpawk · 14/07/2023 18:35

Stop caring what your mum thinks she sounds like a dickhead tbh.
Glad your partner is going with you op.

Bringonthepitchforks · 14/07/2023 18:35

Get to hospital as quickly as you can safely do so.

maddening · 14/07/2023 18:37

Just get going, don't worry about your mum and your dc will get to sleep no issue.

Lipolass · 14/07/2023 18:37

Gosh OP go to A&E. Let your partner look after your son, ignore your mum and look after yourself. This is not something that should be ignored or delayed.
Wishing you well 💐

FontSnob · 14/07/2023 18:44

Agree with all of the above, get to hospital, fck your mothers opinion. You don’t need to tell Her if she’s going to argue with you.

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 14/07/2023 18:53

Realistically they are just going to leave you in a bed and not feed you for the weekend and wait until a consultant comes in on Monday. So if you do go take snacks and phone charger.
Generally if it looks like you’ve got a blockage they act more quickly.
111 might be a better bet to get a doctors appointment if they can prescribe some different medication to try and get it under control.
The current levels of care for IBD are horrific.

bleedingbum · 14/07/2023 18:53

My partner is taking me now

Thank goodness. I've only just read your thread but I remember clearly my days working on the gastro ward as a student nurse and when I qualified and you absolutely need to be in hospital. It's shocking your GP hasn't sent you there. I hope you are soon feeling much better.

Twelveisthebestnumber · 14/07/2023 19:04

You are doing the right thing in going to hospital. Good luck and get well soon.

Spectrum2001 · 14/07/2023 19:06

Glad you’re going to hospital, you’ll be seen by a consultant as the junior doctors are on strike.
you’ll get the scans you need and bloods sorted, but you’ll probably need endoscopy which may not be able to be done unless you’ve got frank blood coming out of your rectum.
hope you’re ok 🤞🏻
