Heavy rectal bleeding and tummy pain - pics in comments (TMI)

I have Crohn’s disease with previous bowel surgery

I’ve been in a flare up for months with high inflammation

this past week I’ve been bleeding every day quite heavily, dark blood

my stomach is really hurting, have taken pain killers but not helping

saw doctor today, I’ve been fobbed off by the hospital so many times and explained that to her. She said my heart rate is very high and that im ‘teetering on the edge’ of things becoming bad, but that i could wait to see how it goes over the weekend but if I feel myself getting any worse go to the hospital, she has done an urgent referral to gastro & IBD team

pain is horrible, can’t get myself to the hospital as toddler is asleep and don’t want to disturb him.

asked my mum for advice and she is telling me the hospital will do nothing I’m just in a flare, I’ll be sitting there ages and there’s no point (she’s made me feel like im being over the top)

I’ve attached pictures of what’s going on. Just wondering if there’s anyone on here with IBD that could advise? Or anyone who’s been in this situation?

don’t want to waste time & I am in a flare but this feels different

if you’re squeamish don’t look!

Hope you get some relief soon

EmptyEnvelope · 14/07/2023 22:53

You poor poor thing. Your mum is some piece of work! Causing you to
doubt yourself when you’re clearly very unwell. I hope that hospital can help quickly.

toodlesofoodles · 14/07/2023 22:56

I almost died because my mum told me I was overreacting. Hospital for sure, from your op.

Sending love Flowers

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/07/2023 23:00

Glad you're in hosp OP, I have UC (or used to, stoma now) and I've passed blood like that before for weeks on end. Saying this so you know I'm not in the omg, any blood needs A&E camp. It's different for IBD.

You absolutely need to be in hospital. I'm fact, I'm horrified you've needed to go to the GP about this at all. You're under consultant care, for an ongoing condition. You should have contact details for IBD nurses, consultant clinics, propel who will see you face to face and prescribe. They should have prescribed you meds (steroids?) as soon as the flare started. It's not going to get better from wishful thinking and ignoring you.

Your mother is a twat btw. Flowers

Fernticket · 14/07/2023 23:04

Glad to hear you are in the right place OP. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Btw please take note of what other posters have said about your 'Mum'.

MouseMinge · 14/07/2023 23:19

Your poor thing. I'm so glad you're in hospital and I know it's awful now but they can care for you and hopefully lower the pain for you. The only words I could possibly use to describe what I think of your mother mostly start with f and end with king with quite a few c ending in t words to boot. She's toxic and you deserve so much better than her. I'm glad your partner has you back and is looking after you. Much love to you and I hope that you can get all the help you need this weekend.

dearJayne · 14/07/2023 23:22

Glad to read you're in hospital op. Sorry to hear the pain relief isn't working. I hope you're feeling better soon.

baffledcoconut · 14/07/2023 23:50

I’m sure that a virtual ‘mum’ can be rustled up between all the posters. Glad you’re in the right place and hope you’re comfortable over night.

stayclosetoyourself · 15/07/2023 00:11

Has the dr examined you - will they get a CT?

bleedingbum · 15/07/2023 03:24

I’ve been admitted. I had an x ray but it didn’t show anything - they said they want to keep me in to investigate and probably have an endoscopy. I’ve literally only just been moved onto a ward so still up. Currently have IV paracetamol. Im not sure what time the doctors are seeing me because they’ve said it could be throughout the night. Im going to try get a couple hours sleep. Will update tomorrow. Wanted to also say a huge thank you for all the support and thank you for caring, it really does mean the world

Good luck. Your mum is horrible.

Mojitosaremyfavourite · 15/07/2023 06:20

Good luck sweetie, hope you’re feeling a bit better now and that the pain has eased. You are absolutely in the right place where you need to be.

Update us when you can 💐💐

I hope you've managed to get some sleep OP, they've got your pain under control and that you get some answers and help ♥️

ohsuzannah · 15/07/2023 12:38

Hospital ASAP 😨

Floralnomad · 15/07/2023 13:00

Hope you are feeling a bit better today @bleedingbum

pudseypie · 15/07/2023 13:12

I hope you're ok OP and have seen a gastro now? I also have Crohns. I've started bleeding over the last week. Not as heavy as you though and not in severe pain. I'm waiting for my IBD team to get back to me, I emailed them yesterday.
Really hope you start to feel better soon. Are you on biologics?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/07/2023 15:21

Glad you're being admitted and hope you've seen a gastro consultant by now OP.

Before you're discharged, I think it's really worth you getting proper contact details for the IBD team so you can get in touch if you have a flare. You shouldn't be faffing with seeing the GP, they're not specialised enough to organise the right treatment for you. That's why you're under a consultant. But that doesn't mean anything if you can't contact them!

LadyLolaRuben · 15/07/2023 15:26

Those photos looked terrible OP. You must be suffering. Ignore your mum. Glad you're in hospital. Keep us posted on how you get on. Speedy recovery x

Xrays · 15/07/2023 15:43

Hope you’ve managed to get some rest and they’re looking after you well.

You must be feeling dire, OP. I’m so glad you went to the hospital where they can take the best care of you. They’re obviously taking your situation seriously - unlike your mother 🤬

I hope things improve for you very soon. And honestly, when you feel better and strong enough, I would seriously consider cutting your mother out of your life. You are a thousand times a better person than she is.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/07/2023 16:41

So glad you're in hospital being looked after. Your mum has really let you down with her awful comments. Hope you're feeling better soon.

FontSnob · 15/07/2023 18:52

How are you doing @bleedingbum? Hope that you are getting better x

bleedingbum · 16/07/2023 19:27

Just wanted to update. The gastro team wants to do some scopes but can’t do it until this upcoming week due to the junior doctor strike. Because my pain had gone down by Saturday afternoon I asked to be discharged so I could have my own bed. Today I’ve been to the toilet 7 times so far bleeding every time and the pain is back. Feel stupid asking to be discharged now

Sorry to hear you're still in pain. Hopefully they sent you home with sufficient pain relief ?
