Heavy rectal bleeding and tummy pain - pics in comments (TMI)

I have Crohn’s disease with previous bowel surgery

I’ve been in a flare up for months with high inflammation

this past week I’ve been bleeding every day quite heavily, dark blood

my stomach is really hurting, have taken pain killers but not helping

saw doctor today, I’ve been fobbed off by the hospital so many times and explained that to her. She said my heart rate is very high and that im ‘teetering on the edge’ of things becoming bad, but that i could wait to see how it goes over the weekend but if I feel myself getting any worse go to the hospital, she has done an urgent referral to gastro & IBD team

pain is horrible, can’t get myself to the hospital as toddler is asleep and don’t want to disturb him.

asked my mum for advice and she is telling me the hospital will do nothing I’m just in a flare, I’ll be sitting there ages and there’s no point (she’s made me feel like im being over the top)

I’ve attached pictures of what’s going on. Just wondering if there’s anyone on here with IBD that could advise? Or anyone who’s been in this situation?

don’t want to waste time & I am in a flare but this feels different

if you’re squeamish don’t look!

My mum has just come to look after DS whilst I get dropped off and she’s come over calling me a stupid hypochondriac

Some people are not fit to call themselves mothers and your mum is one of those people. I am glad you are going to be seen tonight, good luck.

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 14/07/2023 19:10

Your mum is being ridiculous.

I'm glad you're on your way to hospital.

Rest while you're there, as much as you can.

justanothernamechangemonday · 14/07/2023 19:19

So that's quite normal daily bleeding for me (ulcerative colitis). Your GP would give you a 4-6 week dose of steroids I should imagine. Have you contacted your IBD team recently?

I cant imagine being like this to my child. She needs to read up on the seriousness of a bowel perforation. How would she feel if you died because she was telling you NOT to go to hospital.

ohsoso · 14/07/2023 19:24

@bleedingbum im so sorry your mum is acting like this. As someone with very active IBD I know stressful situations can really aggravate my condition. Get yourself to hospital, try not to let your mum stress you out. Best of luck. Hope they can help you.

When you are feeling better you need to think about reducing contact with your Mum. She is toxic.

Hufflemuff · 14/07/2023 19:26

I have serious Ulcerative Colitus and bleed like this in a very bad flare. If you're really feeling shit and its preventing you from eating it makes the blood in the stool show up clearer. Good luck with A&E, I think they will do a blood test and if your CRP (Inflammation Markers) are above a certain number they will admit you in.

Out of curiosity - are you already on biologics medication?

Finally - if you're on facebook there's some excellent Facebook support groups which have a lot of very helpful advice.

Hufflemuff · 14/07/2023 19:28

Also one more thing. If you're not used to bleeding - as its not as common with Chrons as Colitis, this blood doesn't seem too dark. It looks about the same as mine. The real red flags are black poos like tar, which indicate damage/rupturing from higher up in the GI tract. This bleed is inline with colon bleeding IMO and experience.

baffledcoconut · 14/07/2023 19:30

You poor thing. I have nothing useful to add regarding your condition but your mum has been incredibly unkind- it is not a motherly thing to do. Look after yourself and ignore her hurtful awful comments.

bleedingbum · 14/07/2023 19:31

@Hufflemuff thank you. My large bowel has been removed as it perforated, so only have small intestine left

OP posts:
Cornishlols · 14/07/2023 19:46

As a fellow Ibd sufferer with no large intestine I really hope you are OK. I'm guessing you need a course of steriods. Do not let them fob you off with painkillers.

StrawberryAmaretti · 14/07/2023 19:47

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry your mum is being insensitive, is she always this way?
My dad has crohns and been admitted to hospital several times, one before last his bowel was necrotic and he had to have some removed.
If you're not feeling right better to get checked out, also ditto with the excessive bleeding. Flowers

MumofCrohnie · 14/07/2023 19:48

My DD had Crohn's. We would be going straight to hospital if she was bleeding like that.

Your mother is an extremely strange person.

That's the most polite way I can think to phrase it.

TheoTheopolis23 · 14/07/2023 19:58

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry your mum is being insensitive

I'll just fix this because I think this poster got the word "insensitive" mixed up with the words "evil, crazy, irresponsible, unimaginable c*nt".

Easily done.

I hope you're getting some help op.

At A&E seen by triage straight away waiting on bloods & pain relief now

Sorry @Xrays i haven’t been clear - my partner is here to take me and have DC in the car, but my mum is saying it’s bad to be driving my DS around in this weather

Your mum's batshit opinion is irrelevant. Go. You need care and treatment.

YukoandHiro · 14/07/2023 20:03

Pleased to see you're already at a&e, you're in the best place xx

Einevinefine · 14/07/2023 20:04

Ah, glad you are being cared for. I think I would try and stay low contact w your Mother. Wishing you the best and hope you feel better soon.

sadsack78 · 14/07/2023 20:09

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Chrohn's is awful and I'm sorry you're in pain 💐

I hope you get treated well at the hospital and you feel better. You're doing the right thing getting help.

10HailMarys · 14/07/2023 20:11

You are in pain and have been shitting blood for days. Go to hospital. Crohn’s is a serious condition, rectal bleeding is dangerous and your mum is a disgrace to be telling you not to go.

You don’t need your mother’s approval to go to A&E. You are an adult. Go to hospital NOW and when you’re back home and feeling well enough, have a serious think about your mother and her role in your life because I don’t think she’s a positive presence.

Ivyy · 14/07/2023 20:13

Jesus op I'd be so scared (admit I know nothing about IBD and what is normal/ abnormal bleeding). Glad you went to a&e.

I'm so sorry your mother is behaving in such a horrible toxic way. What spiteful comments, is she a narc by any chance? When you're home I think reducing contact and examining the relationship would be a good idea. My own mother is a toxic narcissist and over 40 years it's really effected my mental health badly at times.

Take care Flowers
