To want a pink bathroom

Maternityleavelady · 14/07/2023 09:33

Hi, we have a grey marble en-suite bathroom. I would like to paint the bathroom vanity unit a pale pink. The amount of pink in the room would be pretty small (2m wide for double sinks by 60cm high). DH is massively opposed to pink because he is old fashioned and thinks it is girly. If he has his way the entire house would be boring grey. AIBU to want a tiny bit of pink in the only bathroom in the house where no guests go and I spend way more time in there than him?

(For context we have another family bathroom which is boring grey and beige already!)

Pink is beautiful! I have a pink house and was desperate for a pink bathroom… but couldn’t find the right shade tiles :(

TheSandgroper · 14/07/2023 09:42

I loathe grey. Colour psychology says it can be associated with dullness and depression.

Pink, however, is associated with kindness, love and femininity. Go the pink.

My Mil has a post war, lots of pink bathroom with bits of light blue and I love it in there.

And, does he not noticed what he married? Er, you’re a girl (woman), aren’t you?

Maternityleavelady · 14/07/2023 10:00

Thank you ladies. Has anyone else’s DH objected to pink decor or is mine just a fuddy duddy?!

My bathroom is entirely pink.

It's a 70s one that wasn't ever updated (it's on the list!)

When I say pink, I mean PINK! Ceiling. Walls. Basin. Bath. Tiles. Woodwork. It's like being inside a marshmallow.

Other than it being a bit ropey with some cracked tiles and shocking grouting, my DP has made no comment at all. It's just a colour. He certainly doesn't feel it threatens his masculinity...

And pink looks nice with grey.

Jesus woman! Grab a brush! I bet a tenner he won’t even notice!

Any chance of a photo? I'm sure it looks amazing but I'm really struggling to picture that!

Your big mistake was not telling him you wanted pink in BOTH bathrooms. Then he could have bargained with you for just one. Rookie error.

Helendegenerate · 14/07/2023 10:27

In a former house I came home one day to see that a neighbour had painted their garden gate a lovely shade of pink. Other neighbours were moaning about it and I seemed the only one who loved it. Imagining all the gates in different colours I then painted mine blue. The pink neighbour smiled at me and did a thumbs up but the others snubbed me. 😁

It's your bathroom so paint it tartan if you want. The husband is another matter. LTB ????? Hmmmm that wouldn't work though. He'd have to be the one packing his bags 😁

I like your style Grin

Men can be funny buggers. Pink is too girly? It's not of course, it's just a colour but even if it was, so what? I'm sure his penis won't shrivel up and fall off if he has to shower in a pink bathroom.

He's ridiculous on more than one level here.

Might be worth pointing out that to the Victorians, pink was a highly masculine colour.

To me, this kind of proves that colours do not actually have genders.

As I have just fitted a nice bright red loo seat in one of my bathrooms - white tiled but with red mat/towels/loo roll holder and big vases of red poppies, I think your wee bit of pink is v restrained, OP! Go for it.
If your DH objects, say that half the house is yours, and you are considering painting the drawing room and bedroom pink too, unless he shuts up…

Defiantlynot41 · 14/07/2023 10:46

Mine is this colour (all 4 walls) it's a bit lighter and brighter in real life. White suite and tiles.

We have the luxury of separate bedrooms, DHs choice for the main one which he has is claret curtains and bedding and subtle pinkish walls. He's 62 and generally very conventional.

A rented house we lived in in the past had two grey bathrooms - we had blue bath mats, towels, bins and whatever in one, pink in the other. This was enough to lift the grey, in different ways, without any permanent alteration. I think if try changing the accessories first, op, so your DH can get used to a bit of warm colour.

NewAnon · 14/07/2023 10:55

My DH actively supports (and suggests) the use of pink.

Holy hell, he even wears a pink shirt of his own volition.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/07/2023 10:56

What's he worried about? That if you paint the vanity unit in the ensuite pink that his dick will fall off?

You both live in the house, so you both get a say in the decor. It doesn't sound like you like the rest of it (boring grey!) so just go out, buy some pink paint, and do it.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/07/2023 11:03

We have a pale pink, grey and white living room.Love it.

Mygrandadwasmywingman · 14/07/2023 11:06

Our whole house is blue, grey and greens (god knows why)
I've put my foot down and said I hate the blue that's in our bedroom and I want a 'grown up pink' (god knows what I meanr-i just don't want bubblegum pink)
Dp is fine with it-pink is just a faded red at the end of the day
He was the one who pointed out that his willy won't fall off-its just a colour

Just paint it-its just paint and can be painted over again

Trollfeet · 14/07/2023 11:08

My main bathroom has pink floor tiles. My DDs chose it but DS and DH don’t mind.
