All young people are vulnerable. All of them

Yes exactly.

Some of the most vulnerable people i have known have been in their 40s and 50s, peak ages for suicides.

I agree many teenagers and into their 20s, are extremely street wise but many are not.

Either way, Edwards has committed no crime and should be left alone now.

Well, i didn’t. And I don’t know how you did.

Because I dinna bide under a rock 💁🏻‍♀️

I feel sad for the child and mum and hope they are getting the support they need. The mum has been very brave. It takes a lot to go public.

The Sun did a fab job getting this story out there. Men like this should not be protected. I have a lot of time for The Sun and contrary to opinion on here, they can’t just make stuff up whenever they feel like it.

It’s threads like this and outpourings of sympathy for violent abusive men that always remind me how little society has progressed really. Strangely, many women seek to maintain the status quo by defending men, even powerful ones that abuse their position. Women and children deserve so much better.

Ask yourself why the mum went to the BBC and not the police

PonyPatter44 · 12/07/2023 20:47

The Met Police also said no crime had been committed in Trafalgar Square the other day. I think I'll wait and see what comes out in the next few days on this one.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 12/07/2023 20:48

If it’s true re the allegations then I’m disgusted but not surprised.

I saw bloody Alistair Campbell FFS springing to his defence especially over the mental health issues and commiserating as he too has suffered mental health issues and depression over being hounded by the press he was trying to hint at and they’ve both got children! Does this mean Campbell is excusing Schofield too?

It really really pisses me off that he can pull the mental health card conveniently (because that’s what it is, convenient). It gives other doctors people but especially men the green card by doing this to say yes, you can slip up. but if you say you feel depressed and mentally sick over it then that’s ok then.

I do not think The Sun et al were correct in hounding him to be exposed but then if they didn’t do it the general public wanted answers.

When will these men ever learn?

Bathbasketcase · 12/07/2023 20:48

The Sun did a fab job getting this story out there. Men like this should not be protected. I have a lot of time for The Sun and contrary to opinion on here, they can’t just make stuff up whenever they feel like it.

And yet they do a lot of spinning, a lot of ‘sources’, a lot of crap. I used to date a journalist (not a rag type one, they worked on science stories) and there is a lot of lying and a lot of twisting. Have you learnt nothing from Martin Bashir? From the News of the World? Come on, you can’t just believe what the newspapers are printing? Surely no one is that naive?!

Whilst I do not condone Huw’s actions at all, we don’t actually know what is true and what isn’t and the speculation is really damaging. It isn’t just about the child and his/her mother there is Huws wife and children to think of too.

Dunnoburt · 12/07/2023 20:48

No longer a "who dunnit" as we now know "Huw dunnit"....surely matter for the police and not the papers?

Iolani · 12/07/2023 20:48

Toottooot · 12/07/2023 20:46

Because I dinna bide under a rock 💁🏻‍♀️

If you’re on social media then it looks like you would know.
Im not, my dh isn’t, so we didn’t know until it was officially confirmed.

GandhiM8Gandhi · 12/07/2023 20:49

Sorry but the picture fucking cracks me up. Imagine genuinely sending that with the expectation of giving someone the horn.

Toottooot · 12/07/2023 20:46

That’s not really an explanation. I assume you got it from Twitter or somewhere. Even then you’d have to be looking for it.

Not all of us were, you know. Astonishing, I’m sure. But some of us thought it was none of our fucking business.

Bathbasketcase · 12/07/2023 20:49

When will these men ever learn?

I don’t think they ever will, no. They seem to think they’re untouchable and won’t get caught. I think for a long time that was true, money could buy you out of, or into, anything. Thankfully this seems to be changing.

Gerrataere · 12/07/2023 20:49

Iolani · 12/07/2023 20:45

You don’t have to be young to be vulnerable, nor are all young people vulnerable.
These are huge sweeping inaccurate statements.

Of course they’re vulnerable. It takes years to fully mature, that comes with experience and growing knowledge. Not all teenagers can be taken advantage of, but in terms of being used for sexual abuse/grooming from older men they are certainly the most likely victims. Tenfold since the internet blew up, the secret pockets of social media. The idea that giving away sexuality is a norm. Kids are being shown from a very young age that sex is simply something you do these days with no thoughts to your own welfare. They’re told that sex work is legitimate, easy money. Your body is no longer a temple, it is simply another commodity to be sold for profit.

Jeevesnotwooster · 12/07/2023 20:39

If I had to place a bet I'd guess she had an Only Fans page and he was a subscriber. Not behaviour I'd like from my partner but not illegal, as she wouldn't be under 18.

They are male. There is more than one. His way of operating seems to be randomly direct messaging teenagers and potentially vulnerable young adults. Which then progresses to sharing nude pictures - perhaps for cash, but I don't think that's confirmed as yet, just reported by the sun. It's also possible that he's sent abusive messages to one teenager who threatened to expose his messages. And now possibly bashing his senior position at work by contacting younger, junior employees in an inappropriate way. It may not be illegal, but does this mean it's all fine and dandy and we shouldn't have an opinion on it or express an opinion on it? He just gets on with it because nobody has the right to give a shit as it's his private, personal life?

Amuseaboosh · 12/07/2023 18:08

And now the 'mental health issues' is being trotted out.

Please don't be so offensive. i can't think why a man who has committed no crime who has had his life splashed all over the Sun (of all people), will lose his career might have issues with his mental health.

And to say youre let down - entitlement is not the word. You don't know the man.

Frankola · 12/07/2023 20:51

Why are people jumping the gun here? It's been confirmed that he is the presenter being accused of something.

It hasn't actually been confirmed he has done anything yet.

Stop minimising disgusting behaviour.

”I pay your wages”

Dovetail40 · 12/07/2023 20:52

Huw how about someone closer your age to exchange pics with. Noone would have cared then.
I mean you are 61 jeez.

Huw is statistically far more likely to commit suicide than the young person in question. But when he does, as if when Schofield does, we will all post "be kind like we did with Caroline Flack. It's disgusting.

Men do these sort of things in their hundreds. Being on the BBC makes him no different. As for the OP being "let down" - that says it all. These people owe us nothing.

Quisquam · 12/07/2023 20:53

NRTFT, but don’t you think it’s convenient the Sun has pursued this story since Thursday, when Boris was supposed to be handing his phone over by order of the High Court - and he didn’t? Perhaps Rupert Murdoch is repaying the Tories for an old favour?

Blinky21 · 12/07/2023 20:53

It's horribly sad, the media has obsessed about this story for days whipping up a really irresponsible frenzy around someone who has well documented severe mental health issues, you'd have thought he was an axe murderer. But as it turns out he hasn't committed a crime, yet his families' lives and his career are ruined. Remember how the media wrung their hands after Caroline Flack was hounded to death, could have easily been the same outcome here. I hope this has now killed the story and our media can report on the real issues that affect our lives

Chickenkeev · 12/07/2023 20:55

FloydPepper · 12/07/2023 20:52

Tbf if someone is getting paid public money, they should be held to a particular standard (see also Ryan Tubridy)

ItsMyAeroplane · 12/07/2023 20:55

I’m not impressed with his wife’s statement on his behalf. It’s all about him.

There’s no apology, just reference to allegations and concern for him.

Sorry to hear he has MH issues, but it’s no excuse.

I spend a lot of time managing my own stress, anxiety and have to regularly pull myself back from the brink of panic attacks. Grooming children for my own sexual gratification is not one of my coping strategies, and I’m fully aware it’s something that would send me off into a mental meltdown if I did.

He’s only got himself to blame.

LovelyIssues · 12/07/2023 20:55

Not shocked at all. Many men and women have sexual pleasures they want to fulfill. Many use p*rn etc. The "teenager" was over the legal age of consent and made a fair few Bob out of him! It's his wife I feel sorry for.
