I know it's a stupid thing to say and I'm sure I am not objectively. I also don't have a lot of money to 'fix' things which doesn't help.
My chin has a lot of acne, I use cerave BHA on it but doesn't seem to do anything. I put tea tree oil on, it does dry them up but they always come back. I'm on the mini pill, not sure what else would help.
I'm 32 which I know is still young and I'm sure older people will tell me I'm being ridiculous. However it's that age where you're conscious you're not in your 20s anymore and notice the first signs of ageing.
I've got small crows' feet, marionette lines and dark circles under my eyes/lines underneath.
I had filler on my nasolabial folds because they really got me down. However I don't want to start having it everywhere as it's expensive to maintain.
Anyway, I've been using tretinoin (a dermatica) subscription for around 5 months and I've honestly not noticed any improvements in the lines. Maybe a slight improvement in the dark circles but it's hard to tell.
I wear SPF 50 every day and have done since I was about 19, don't sunbathe, don't drink, never smoked etc.
I've also got a lot of open pores on my cheeks and they always seem to be red.
I've got hooded eyelids which already seem to be sagging.
My teeth could do with whitening.
I've been growing out a pixie cut for around 5.5 months, it's now into a very short bob but I just don't think it suits me. I don't really know what does.
Sorry for the rant, I just feel that if I had a lot of money I could 'fix' all this but I can't.
I see so many attractive women around and I feel so bland in comparison.

Ask gp.if you can go on Yasmin pill.It can be prescribed for acne but if you use it as a contraception it's free.i haven't had a spot in 10 yrs on it.

Boooooooring · 08/07/2023 20:54

Thank you, I will look into Yasmin.
The nose to mouth line filler was absolute torture so I'd be keen to avoid further filler in the future!

Geewhiz wait til youre in your late 40s. I’m absolutely unrecognisable from just 10 years ago. I was all Apple cheeks and Disney princess eyes. Now I look less Shera and more like skeletor.

Please don't make me laugh!! Now I've hit my 40s I think where has the fawn gone? WHERE HAS THE FAWN GONE??

Then realise I'm an older deer now and was once all dewy :)

Freshair1 · 08/07/2023 21:12

I'm feeling like this, too. I'm 37 and feel utterly miserable about myself. My face is so haggard and tired. I look like a ghost, a porcelain thing with baggy eyes and when I'm told to smile I get crows feet and even extra smile lines. I know it's stupid but I do feel like I lost myself when I had my child. They're now 4 and I feel resigned to looking like crap, and feeling like crap. I look at myself from when I was younger and it just depresses how much I've aged.

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/07/2023 21:20

I'm 45 and think the secret is not to look yoinger but to be a good version of you.

So my tips are - lots of water, SPF every day, double cleansing routine, exercise, good diet, moisturise moisturise moisturise. Also do not dye your hair to cover grey.

Boooooooring · 08/07/2023 21:23

I wash my face with an exfoliating face wash in the mornings, at night use an anti acne face wipe, then bio oil, cerave on the spots, tretinoin and peptides on the lines and dark circles. Not sure if this routine is actually doing me any good!

Luckily I do a lot of exercise, my diet is ok but I do eat too much sugar and too many refined carbs.

I find being healthy and not obsessing over the mirror or being on social media help.

5128gap · 08/07/2023 21:29

Controversial...but here goes...
I think you'd benefit from leaving off that factor 50 for a few minutes or so a day and getting a little sun and air to your skin. Too much sun is aging, but I think we go to extremes these days, and a little glow of the kind we're naturally supposed to get from spending a little time outside could lift your complexion, help your acne and give you a vit D boost which lifts your mood.

Royalbloo · 08/07/2023 21:32

What do you love about yourself?

Royalbloo · 08/07/2023 21:33

Boooooooring · 08/07/2023 18:35

I think that guy insinuating I looked haggard today didn't help, lol.
But anyway who even is he, just someone trying to put women down.

And how did HE look? In the peak of fitness? Wonderful? I doubt it.

Royalbloo · 08/07/2023 21:34

And no one "earns" their face. Wonderful people may be less attractive and "awful" people may be beautiful. It means nothing to those who see beyond that. X

Royalbloo · 08/07/2023 21:36

I got some nip and fab cleanser and a battery powered exfoliater and I swear every time I use it it reduces my age by about 2 yrs. I'm 42.

SirQuintusAureliusMaximus · 08/07/2023 21:38

If you have acne on just on your chin, (sorry if you know this already) watch out for how much you touch it, sit resting your chin on your hand, stroke your chin when thinking, that kind of thing because you can aggravate skin conditions by touching and spreading dirt etc, and not notice

if you think its an issue, try wearing a cotton glove on your hand and you'll notice it more.

The other thing - and this really helped me - is check ALL of the products that you put on your face are non-comedogenic especially moisturizer which is a really big culprit but also foundation and powder.

finally if still a problem, worth a visit to GP/dermatologist.

SirQuintusAureliusMaximus · 08/07/2023 21:39

and also make sure you change your face towels and pillow cases and sheets/duvet covers if you sleep snuggled up with them touching your face regularly.

towels and pillow cases also often overlooked.

sevenbyseven · 08/07/2023 21:40

I'm 48 and my age is definitely showing! I'm ok with it though. I'm the youngest I'll ever be, might as well enjoy it and not worry about the inevitable 😄

Careerdilemma · 08/07/2023 21:43

Have you thought about switching to Yasnin instead if the mini pill? Great for hormonal acne.

Apricotton · 08/07/2023 21:44

I agree with changing your pill. I’m not medical at all, but my understanding is that the mini pill can worsen acne. I would try a combined pill instead.

Boooooooring · 08/07/2023 21:47

Thank you everyone. I like my eye colour, hair colour, I'm happy with my figure, and hopefully I'll be happier with my skin soon.
Good point about the pillowcases.
Definitely going to try all of the suggestions.

Dematica Azelaic Acid from Amazon is a miracle cure for hormonal chin acne. Someone recommended it on here and I'm just sorry I've only just discovered it! I've suffered for years aswell. Just having clear skin has helped me feel a bit better about myself.

GellerYeller · 08/07/2023 21:54

I used to get tret on prescription years ago for acne but then they took it off the system and it was available only privately. If you’re regularly using it please don’t skip the SPF as suggested upthread. I’m sure it comes with a warning. I found a BHA/AHA peel/mask once weekly was good for clogged pores.

MrsElsa · 08/07/2023 21:57

Go back to basics. Exfoliate, tone, moisturise. I mix the moisturiser with spf30 (it's for the face, non pore blocking!).

Always bring the moisturiser / spf care down the neck and chest 😉

Moisturiser just pick one with the anti aging ingredients and see if it helps. If not, switch. No need to spend a fortune either, plenty of options in Savers...

Acne can be caused by hormonal birth control. Can you come off it? It might improve your mood as well, see recent threads here about links to depression.

Finally find your triggers for acne. For years I thought mine was chocolate but it's actually cheese. Sad because I LOVE cheese. But sure enough I cut it out for 6m and had ZERO zits by the end of it. Damn!

Cappuccino17 · 08/07/2023 22:01

Yeah I think there are sudden changes in ageging when you hit mid 30s. I have noticed my cheeks have lost all the baby fat and iv got some crows feet around the eyes. I can definitely see a change in my facial appearance. I think when we are in our 40s and 50s we will feel much more comfortable with the ageing process. 30s is that awkward phase where you still want to look 20 but feel scared you look 40. Lol.

Harvey3 · 08/07/2023 22:01

Have you tried skin&me? It's a prescription service for acne (and other issues I assume). You send in photos of you skin and fill out a questionnaire and get sent cream to use daily every month. It's not cheap but I've always suffered from acne (has gone away when on antibiotics but you can't use them long term) and this is genuinely making a difference, 4 months in. Have friends that recommended it to me who swear by it too. I'm a similar age to you too.

Merryoldgoat · 08/07/2023 22:02

I’d suggest a better skincare regime, no wipes and no manual exfoliants as they can make you overproduce oil.

Double cleansing AM and PM, a good BHA will really help your acne (Paula’s Choice is amazing but expensive), a good light moisturiser and you’ll see sone improvement. You can continue with the tret too.

I am 45 and have better skin now than I did in my 30s. I don’t look ‘young’ but I look like a good version of my older self.
