Men’s Asylum seeker accommodation next to school

I feel quite ashamed by how I feel but want to know if it warranted.

There has been an announcement that a 500 men’s asylum seeker accommodation is going ahead against councils decision (it was overruled on a national scale). This is Stafford btw

It will be butted up to (no gap) to my DCs school and opposite a nursery. It’s not because they are asylum seekers that concerns me. It’s the fact it’a 500 men unit, with many with no known history / criminal records/ mental state.

I work over an hour away and currently my daughter who is 12 walks to the bus etc, she also does after school clubs then walks home alone. Most parents at the school are talking about moving their kids but in reality and logistically that’s not going to happen.

I genuinely feel scared for her safety. AIBU?
Its the location of it that’s wrong and the fact the council stated issues and concerns so refused it but got overruled by the government…

Not at all miniegg3 you are entitled to your opinion just like everyone else.

Wasn't it Liverpool where the little girl (think she was about 14?) filmed an asylum seeker pestering her for sex while she was on her way to school? He said 'I don't care' when she told him her age.

500 bored men all in one place next to young girls is not a good idea. Certainly when they are from parts of the world which are very culturally different and women are regarded as less than human, mere baby making machines whose value lies only in their chastity (and western women are considered whores for not covering up and doing things like being out without a male guardian) you're bound to get more than a frisson of tension.

Mumsnet is always fiercely pro mass immigration on one hand, but on the other hand never take into account the effect of having significant numbers of people arriving with a very different stance on the rights of women. It will alter our political landscape and the world isn't a great place for women as it is.

I have to admit I laughed out loud at Simon Reeve the travel presenter. I think it was his documentary about Greece, where he saw a boatload of illegal migrants on camera and he couldn't wait to play the good Samaritan (they were well dressed, had mobile phones and could clearly afford to pay people smugglers). Shortly after first seeing them land, the film crew put the women immigrants in the car and were driving them to the local town and the car was stopped by a group of very aggressive male immigrants who didn't give a shit that the film crew were trying to assist, just that women are not allowed to be with men they don't know in case they are defiled by the presence of western men.

He just had no clue what he was dealing with. He had no clue about just how alien our western culture is and how unwelcome. It's well worth a watch to see how woefully lacking in understanding many westerners are when the try to 'help'.

A lot of men in that unit will literally hate our liberal way of life and consider women less than. We're all too busy wallowing in be kind, and guilt over empire to take a step back and say, actually there is value in our liberalism in the UK, there is value in the forward march of women's rights and that needs protection.

Pim Fortuyn believed in protecting the liberal culture of the Netherlands and he literally died for believing in those freedoms. In France, women are being physically assaulted for not covering up. I think it was last summer a lady was punched in the face for wearing a mini skirt. Look at the events in Cologne a few years ago. I nearly cried listening to one sexual assault survivor from that night talking about the many many hands all over her body grabbing her, tearing her clothes off. Dozens of men trying to grope her. In all of those men, not one tried to stop the assault, because to them it was completely justified, she was just a blond western whore out in public. So she deserved it. I wonder is Angela Merkel stopped for one second to consider the safety of the average German women when she gave out a free pass to a over million migrants. I wonder how many people will actually stop and listen to the testimony of those women, the very real victims of ill thought through migration policy.

I doubt the people clamouring for mass immigration stop for a second to think about being kind to women and certainly not to a bunch of teenage girls in Stafford. You can't get woke points for worrying about women's rights or protecting liberal culture. Nobody is going to give you a follow on Twitter for that.

There is value in migration. It isn't a dirty word. However is does need to be properly managed to ensure there isn't a major impact on the culture of the UK. At some stage the cognitive dissonance needs to stop, people need to stop yelling racism and actually have a sane and sensible conversation around migration and the very real impact of it. Obviously in this case putting 500 men next to a school, that simply has not happened.

Fully agree with this, especially this part:

„At some stage the cognitive dissonance needs to stop, people need to stop yelling racism and actually have a sane and sensible conversation around migration and the very real impact of it.“

And I‘m an immigrant myself.

I assume you mean our GOV right? They are the real culprits wake up.

500 hundred men, young, single, and bored. Also from cultures which don't favour females and . Yeah, its racist to be less than enthusiastic.

What about the thousands of young, single, bored white British men who already live here? Will you deport them too? Or are you only concerned about brown men?

Gytgyt · 08/07/2023 10:35

Boomboom22 · 08/07/2023 08:43

How do you think they pay? It's not free to get on a smugglers boat! Do you seriously think they just group together and get on a dinghy? Do you ever even listen to the news?

They don't all pay thousands. People are trafficked. You don't know everyone's circumstances so don't go assuming. Some of these 500 won't of even had any money at all. FFS have you even travelled to a poor Country? It doesn't sound like it... perhaps you've watched too much news. The GOV have created this and its been going on years... they won't tell you that though when your sat at home watching the "news"

And while you're at it, better safe than sorry, chuck out uncle Ron who is far more likely than a vulnerable man in a hostel to attack your child when aunty Maureen isn't looking.

Nousernamesleftatall · 08/07/2023 10:36

Yanbu. For all the bleeding hearts here, you cannot deny that statistically rape and murder is far more common in developing countries. Germany and Sweden released data showing that migrants from developing countries are 10 times more likely to rape and murder than EU citizens.

redreal · 08/07/2023 10:37

"Wandering the village and shopping for alcohol! What is the world coming to?!"

They weren't just doing that. Did you read the whole article? They got drunk, went to Cambridge and raped someone.

redreal · 08/07/2023 10:37

they didn't just shop for alcohol ffs.
Read the article and then read this one:

What if it was an army barracks? Would that be fine?

Where the soldiers are taught discipline and are there because they have a job to do, and are directly overseen by senior officers who they respect?

in what way is that the same thing?

i used to live near a site where migrant men were housed. They went around in groups, hung around smoking weed on the playing fields nearby and started fires in the accommodation frequently.

frustratednomad · 08/07/2023 10:42

I am amazed at the denial and naivety by some people on this thread. OP YANBU, I would feel exactly the same as you and I am furious that we the general public are expected to just suck it up and accept that some of these men are dangerous to women and girls, even boys in some cases, and no one gives a shit.

JazbayGrapes · 08/07/2023 10:43

If they were white, would it be legit to object then? Like people object to low-income housing next to their "upmarket" properties?

poetryandwine · 08/07/2023 10:46

Our current asylum system is not fit for purpose and that is a big problem here. This housing is likely to be cramped and poorly maintained; these men are sadly ineligible for employment. Many are traumatised. The Home Office does nothing to help integrate them as they wait ridiculously long times for their decisions. They live on a pittance and it is challenging for many to fill their days.

I am very sympathetic to asylum seekers but it seems a bad idea to have 500 mostly young men in these circumstances living next to a school.

A military base is an entirely different thing.

inamarina · 08/07/2023 10:47

DisquietintheRanks · 08/07/2023 09:48

So how does that differ from having a bog standard housing estate right next to your child's school?

Are bog standard housing estates usually full of single men with not much to do all day?

JazbayGrapes · 08/07/2023 10:47

A military base is an entirely different thing.

A military base would be fenced off and the residents occupied most of the time...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2023 10:52

I think some of the Eastern African men have been or are at danger of being forced/kidnapped into the army. the youth may be escaping becoming child soldier
For some others they may be facing persecution for being gay, political views (having/not having them), rejecting local religion or just wanting to escape war/conflict

Best not to confuse hearsay and evidence, Yea2023
Certainly these things exist and statistically some will have suffered from them, but the sheer numbers claiming the same things can be surprising - though perhaps less so to those who've seen the crib sheets supplied by activists detailing "what to say"

I once went for an interview at our local "Law Centre" - supposedly a facility for everyone, except they'd lied to get the funding and it turned out to be solely an immigration rights concern. Predictably the case histories were rolled out about families being shot/tortured/thrown down a well, etc, and I asked what evidence they had for all these remarkably similar claims

Bemused expressions all round ... though imagine my embarrassment when they offered me the job Confused

LegendsBeyond · 08/07/2023 10:57

It’s terrible from a safeguarding point of view. They’re putting the rights of these men above local children & it will all go horribly wrong.

fyn · 08/07/2023 10:59

I’d move my daughter to a different school.

HRTQueen · 08/07/2023 10:59

500 men together very little to do all day

I would be concerned also attracts drug dealers

why next to a school it’s almost as if those in power to make these decisions want people to oppose

Sycasmores · 08/07/2023 11:00

Nope that's not ok. They need to break them up into smaller groups. They need to be integrated properly not housed like animals. It will only make them more dangerous. Large groups of single men are always a high risk group.

They do come from places with very different laws around consent, child marriage with fuck all women's rights. It is not racist to bloody say it and to be afraid. The colour of them doesn't matter one bit.

Discretionassured · 08/07/2023 11:03

Everytime I drive past our local hotel housing asylum seekers there are multiple police cars in attendance, lots of reports of sexual harassment, antisocial behaviour etc too, YANBU OP.

MostlyBlueberryFlavoured · 08/07/2023 10:30

Wandering the village and shopping for alcohol! What is the world coming to?!

Interesting that you seem to have stopped reading at that paragraph. The one right after it says:

„Then came the news that the soldiers had been arrested and charged with sex offences after making their way to nearby Cambridge in October.
And then came the recriminations. Discipline among the troops had been “extraordinarily difficult”, said the head of the Army.“
