Men’s Asylum seeker accommodation next to school

I feel quite ashamed by how I feel but want to know if it warranted.

There has been an announcement that a 500 men’s asylum seeker accommodation is going ahead against councils decision (it was overruled on a national scale). This is Stafford btw

It will be butted up to (no gap) to my DCs school and opposite a nursery. It’s not because they are asylum seekers that concerns me. It’s the fact it’a 500 men unit, with many with no known history / criminal records/ mental state.

I work over an hour away and currently my daughter who is 12 walks to the bus etc, she also does after school clubs then walks home alone. Most parents at the school are talking about moving their kids but in reality and logistically that’s not going to happen.

I genuinely feel scared for her safety. AIBU?
Its the location of it that’s wrong and the fact the council stated issues and concerns so refused it but got overruled by the government…

Christ! That poor woman

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/07/2023 13:42

If you read the planning decision, it is intended to be mixed accommodation

So were a number of similar facilities in my own area - except only too predictably, there's not a woman to be seen apart from staff

Interestingly, following an assault, one of them has introduced a rule where female staff who are expected to mingle with the residents can't do so alone and have to be accompanied by a male staff member ... which begs questions about the potential risk to the rest of us

The redhead in the video "its 500 MEN. That is the concern

LuckyCats · 23/07/2023 17:10

Where are the 500 women and all of the children being housed?
Or did these 500 men leave their wife’s sisters mothers and daughters behind in the awful countries they are fleeing from?
If they were genuine there would be equal numbers of all demographics but it’s mostly young men.
Why?
Ukranian men stayed behind to defend their country.

What I fail to understand is that we have new arrivals wait in airports before they can be checked at passport control. But we are happy to put complete unknowns into hotels in city locations and leave them to it.

How does that make any sense whatsoever? Or am I missing something?

They arrive with no identity. How exactly do you propose they identify them?

3BSHKATS · 24/07/2023 14:00

One arrived locally, and tried to tell a friend of mine who works in social services that he was 15. He must’ve been 46 if he was a day. And probably with not terrible intentions, just wanting an education. But seriously thought he was gonna pull the wool over the authorities eyes and convince them that he should be in the local comprehensive.

Finlesswonder · 24/07/2023 14:34

I don't think YABU, unless you're one of those who has been watching stuff like this happen in poorer places for years and calling the locals racists, except now its happening to you its massively understandable, in which case YABU

Yet they are allowed to walk around freely when nobody knows if they have a criminal record or not

So what are you thinking then lock them all up in a detention centre like they do in Australia and treat them like criminals whether they are or not just on the off chance ?

NotOnYourNellies · 24/07/2023 16:49

I'm not thinking anything @3BSHKATS , I'm pointing out a fact

Soapyspuds · 24/07/2023 18:05

Then keep them secure until you can. Or send them back.

I am all for looking after people less fortunate but not if it risks others.

We have a innocent until proven guilty justice system, here. As I say the Australian policy of lock them up, men, women and children in prison for years isn’t the British way.

3BSHKATS · 24/07/2023 18:14

Perhaps we could consider looking at why they want to leave their homes in the first place I know it’s a wild crazy idea to perhaps fix that, but it ought to be an option.

I think you are right actually
No identity no roaming
If they have food, shelter a bed and water they will be safe

FFS. I understand MN is predominately left wing but I can’t work out whether people are being deliberately disingenuous or are just stupid.

Do posters really believe that the immigration crisis currently engulfing the whole of Europe is due to “Tory mismanagement”
and “Brexit.”
Are the Tories in power in France where there are migrant riots almost every year? Where vast areas of Paris and Calais are now essentially slums?
Are they in power in Germany where women can no longer take part in street parties or celebrations for fear of sexual assault? Do you think it’s now not happening because the media don’t bother to report it anymore?
Or Scandinavia where their whole society and culture is having to change to ‘accommodate’ the delight that is the misogynistic culture of the African / middle eastern men that dominate the migrant population.
Did Greece brexit too then as small boat crossing to their islands have increased over 400% in the last 5 years?

Or could it be, just maybe, that the spread of information across the world due to the invention and then increasing accessibility of the internet means that millions of people would like to leave their countries that are generally rife with endemic corruption and war (usually in the name of some religion or other but actually about power and money) for Europe/western society. Because these countries are actually pretty good as the world goes.

By the mid-2022, all around the world there were:

  • 32.5 million refugees and
  • 53.2 million internally displaced persons (due to conflict and violence).

They can’t all move to western counties.

People are going to have to do the hard stuff that every westernised countries people did in the past. Fight, overthrow, vote, protest until their own country ‘develops’ and takes on the values they want and be part of the economic development of their own country.

This is not a “Tory issue” 🤦‍♀️

But isn’t the point people are making that for years the Tories trumpeted themselves as the party who’d take a hard line on immigration, then blamed our EU membership for their apparent inability to reduce migration, then led us out of the EU largely on the basis that we could ‘take back control’ of our borders, causing untold economic damage in the process… but are now presiding over the highest (by a very long shot) net migration figures on record?

I don’t think anyone’s saying that it’s all the Tories’ fault. Just that they’ve made the problem a lot worse while saying very loudly that they were the party who’d make it better.

Paul2023 · 30/07/2023 21:01

The conservatives have been appalling when it comes to migration. Numbers haven’t come down to the 10s of thousands, they’re in the high hundreds of thousands.

I don’t think any party has a solution but the Tories have failed miserably. Sunak gave France 500 million pounds to run an immigration centre. Half a billion! What a waste of money and a ridiculous idea.

NancyJoan · 30/07/2023 21:13

There will be several 100 young men aged 15-18 ather school, about whom you know nothing. They are a greater risk, given that she will naturally be around them more, and feel relaxed. You are looking for danger in the wrong place.

So you think they shouldn't be processed when they arrived? No ID. You'll have to wait. I wouldn't be seeking asylum and assume I'll be allowed to roam.

Caradonna · 30/07/2023 21:58

I would think young men from Muslim countries could say they are homosexual whether they are or not, and unsafe in their own country - how could you disprove that .

Milyt · 30/07/2023 22:09

We have 3 hotels with pretty much all male asylum seekers in our town too. I don’t like it either to be honest but in this ultra pc world we live in now, it seems you aren’t able to have a negative view on this. I
