How much is reasonable for an abroad hen?

As the title says… How much is reasonable to pay for an abroad hen do?

What amount would you expect to pay for to go abroad on a hen do? Not including spending money?

This isn’t asking if people agree with hen dos abroad but just how much would you expect one to cost you.

In Europe over a weekend.

If you’ve been on 5, what would you say the average cost is?

Last one I went on was before covid and before everything went up so it’s not really comparable.

Mykonos is very expensive now; I last went in 2016 for my 40th stayed in a 1 bed apartment near the beach for a week & it was a lot cheaper then! But I wouldn't be able to to go there now.

I definitely wouldn't pay £1.2k for any holiday unless it was long haul let alone a hen do, it's £850 max for a girls holiday once a year with my best mates or sister and I would expect to go somewhere for 10 days for that price!!
If I go away for a long weekend I expect to pay less.

Why are you asking other people what is normal then?

Because I want to?

My hen party all in was about 1300, but I only invited my closest friends rather than having 15 plus people!!
Everyone was happy to pay and are in similar financial positions!

hairtodaygonetm · 07/07/2023 22:27

I'd expect around £800-1000 for somewhere decent for a few nights.
And I'd be going.
Unlike the vast majority of MN's - I love my friends and love spending time with them.

lookingforMolly · 07/07/2023 22:27

I think this year foreign travel is much more expensive. I was looking at a long weekend in Palma Majorca with a friend and just couldn't justify the cost of flights and hotel. London would've been cheaper!
But my mum is very ill so I'm not going away.

ActDottie · 07/07/2023 22:28

For a long weekend I wouldn’t want to spend more than £300

Thiswayorthatway · 07/07/2023 22:29

£0

Plunkplink · 07/07/2023 22:32

£500 for 4 nights and flights plus another £500 for meals and boat trips etc

Sissynova · 07/07/2023 22:32

Thiswayorthatway · 07/07/2023 22:29

£0

So edgy.

There is no way I could afford to spend hundreds of pounds on someone hen night. Anything more than a local night out would probably be out of my price range

JustMarriedBecca · 07/07/2023 22:33

I'd expect it to cost around £500+ out of school holiday season and therefore, despite being in the top 5% income bracket, I'd not go.
It's not just the money, it's the time commitment too.

A city break in this country frees up £300 spending immediately. Somewhere like Bath, Edinburgh, York, Cotswolds. Decent spa. Good food. Drinks on tap in the house. That's my ideal hen.

Hen do should be no more than £300 all in if you share rooms in a house including activities.

I live in one of the city’s you mentioned so that would make for a very boring hen do.

I went on a hen like you mentioned a couple of months ago and found it so boring. Staying in the house constantly drinking was just so dull.

all in £1000

If you were saving £££s why would you have to stay in the house?

Planetegg · 07/07/2023 22:44

I think it mostly depends on location. The popular places such as Ibiza, Mykonos etc will be close to, if not over, £1000 for a long weekend. A less popular Eastern European destination for instance, would likely be nearer £600/£700.

That was my thinking but I didn’t arrange it.

The place we stayed was really nice, had a pool etc so it was decided we had to make the most of the place we stayed.

Ok for 3 nights

flights £200
Accommodation £150
Spending £400

So £750 roughly

GoodChat · 07/07/2023 23:17

Realistically you need to consider the circumstances of the people you want to attend.

KingOfThieves · 07/07/2023 23:22

It entirely depends on your relationship and your budget surely. However much you a comfortable with is the right answer.

For my closest friends I’d spend £500. For a distant cousin I wouldn’t spend more than £100 so that would probably rule it out. Selfishly I would just consider, what it worth it TO ME. Not the bride..🙈

LimeCheesecake · 07/07/2023 23:33

For a long weekend away with friends, I’d assume around £600-700 for a European break. I’d normally assume around £200 for accommodation in the uk for weekends away with friends, then meals, so adding flights plus transport to/from airport etc, that sounds about right.

Add meals and drinks and it would depend on the group - so maybe another couple of hundred, given you want to get out and do stuff, not sit around and drink. If you have a bridesmaid who suddenly decides matching t shirts or fancy dress would be fun, you could be looking at quite a bit more for that too.

realistically you maybe asking for nearly a grand total spend. You know the guests, is that likely to be possible? If they are all childfree and earning decent money it’s probably fine.

Orchidgal · 07/07/2023 23:40

Personally i consider this a contradiction in terms as I do not believe Hen parties abroad are reasonable things.

However. My expectations would be:

Budget long weekend in Spain: £250 ish plus another £200 associated costs (food, drink, luggage, outfit, transport to airport etc). Total cost about £450

Middle of the road weekend somewhere like Spain or Greece: £400 ish including an activity of some sort, plus the £200 associated costs. Total cost around £600

Fancypancy holiday somewhere like Italy with an activity and treats included: upward of £800 all in.

Would I be prepared to go on any of these? No.

ThinWomansBrain · 07/07/2023 23:51

Zilch.
sounds like hell on earth

Grumpy101 · 07/07/2023 23:53

Really depends on the friendship group. I got invited to a hen do that will cost about 2k for 3 days. I didn't go as it's ridiculous but a few are going so hen is happy...
