How much is reasonable for an abroad hen?

As the title says… How much is reasonable to pay for an abroad hen do?

What amount would you expect to pay for to go abroad on a hen do? Not including spending money?

This isn’t asking if people agree with hen dos abroad but just how much would you expect one to cost you.

In Europe over a weekend.

I’m a cheapskate and say £200-300 for accomadation (including breakfast, plus spending money. However, I’d want to know the weekends activities before going. Ie. If activities cost alot or not.

To be honest, I’d be happier going to a decent hotel for a meal. Hen weekends have got out of hand.

ChestyLaRue21 · 07/07/2023 21:49

I’d be willing to hand over £200 for accommodation and activities / extras and expect to pay for my own flight. Any more than that would put me off

GladAllOver · 07/07/2023 21:49

"Sorry, I can't make it. But have a great time!"

Nellynoo182 · 07/07/2023 21:51

Over the last couple of years the ones I have been involved with (have included 2/3 nights in typical hen places such as Tenerife, magaluf, Malta, Ibiza etc) have all aimed to get flights and hotel for around £350. Most of the time this has ended up being a bit more. Then there is usually another £100 for transport and activities and maybe t-shirts. Realistically has resulted in around £500 for all the trips (without spending money). That seems to be the norm in my circle! Xxx

Midlander01 · 07/07/2023 21:51

More than I could afford or justify

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/07/2023 21:53

£500-£700 and it would be a no from me

Tiredalwaystired · 07/07/2023 21:54

I am so relieved that my friendship group all got married before this became a thing. And baby showers were a thing. And gender reveal parties were a thing.

We used to just pick a pub and a date and that was pretty much it. Might throw in perhaps one activity in the day and a dinner. Perhaps a packet of cock shaped straws and a sash. Or if it was a fancy one then a night in a travel lodge.

we never had to worry about having 16 hens and weddings in a year and how the hell we would be able to afford it.

This is the first time I have ever posted in the guide of “old woman” but I’m so bloody glad for it!

How on earth do you all afford it??!

Workawayxx · 07/07/2023 21:58

£350 ideal, £500 ok. In reality with my current financial/kids situation I couldn’t justify either of those prices but if I was up for an abroad hen do, that’s what I’d hope/expect to pay.

SpecialOnes · 07/07/2023 22:02

£300

Sissynova · 07/07/2023 22:03

It’s more ‘what is reasonable to spend on a long weekend abroad with friends?’
I have generally spent around £5-800 on this sort of thing depending on the location.

Do you really think you can cover 3 days abroad with £200 though? Flights, transfer,
hotel, food for 3 days.
Even in an Eastern European city you aren’t going to achieve that.

dontbejealousofmyartisticflair · 07/07/2023 22:05

it's MN, posters HATE hen nights.
so the general answer would be "too much".

It's the guests you should be asking, someone on minimum wage will have a different view of what "reasonable" is than an investment banker.

A poster on another thread is adamant that a hen weekend is only for the Upper Class as no "normal" person could afford one...

Tetchypants · 07/07/2023 22:05

Shagaluf girls on tour style piss up - nope. Wanky 5 star resort having to be glam and instagrammable, also no. Interesting stuff and cool restaurants in a beautiful city on my wish list, yeah and I’d happily pay more.

£150-£200 pp flights, £50-£75 pp per night accommodation (assuming sharing a Airbnb) plus food and booze, probably £550-£600 total

This. I think this is the ordinary middling, ignore super-rich and people who wouldn't entertain one price range. Avoid piling on the obligatory extras and more people can afford it.

I personally wouldn’t class myself as upper class and Iv been on 5 abroad hens dos over the years.

Lots of ‘normal’ people can afford them. How bizarre.

I said I’d cover my own flight so yes. I’ve done this before and will do it again in a few months…

transformandriseup · 07/07/2023 22:12

This is all relative to the circle of friends the OP has. For me £500 including flights, accommodation and spending money would be the maximum I would pay for my very best friends and that's if my children were older. For more distant friends I would probably decline the invitation to a hen party abroad.

TeaKitten · 07/07/2023 22:13

Mabmabdwarf · 07/07/2023 21:27

What context do you need exactly.

A standard abroad hen in Europe with all the classic hen crap that goes with it.

No one’s going to say a £100 as flights cost more then that and 10k is for the rich and famous.

Im talking about a big standard hen do.

Why so crabby?

Id say it depends on all the context, you say all the usual hen crap but that’s very variable. Is it a piss up in an Ibiza hotel? Or an air bnb in France with some dodgy straws? Are the guests generally well off or do they all work in retail for example? Are you going in term time or school holidays?

If you’ve been on 5, what would you say the average cost is?

gogomoto · 07/07/2023 22:17

For 3 nights I'd expect circa £250-300 for flights and hotel (b&b) plus other meals and drinks

Mamai90 · 07/07/2023 22:17

4 nights I'd be thinking (spending money included) in the region of £850. I'd say this was fairly typical for no frills Benidorm/Maga.

RawesHawes · 07/07/2023 22:17

I don’t get what you are asking. Is it your hen do?
I have 3 friends who I would happily pay £1000 to go away with for a girls holiday
I wouldn’t even pay £100 to go on anyone else’s Hen Do.

Why are you asking other people what is normal then?

neverenoughchelseaboots · 07/07/2023 22:20

I’d hope for £400 but would accept £500. Beyond that I’d be a bit uncomfortable (but probably just get on with it).

Dragonsandcats · 07/07/2023 22:21

£500 excluding food and drink. I’d have been happy spending that on myself in the days pre kids, I wouldn’t now!
