I absolutely adored Kefalonia.
Looking for inspiration- ideally within a 5 hor flight.
Pretty/Scenic/Romantic/Authentic/Harbour/Cobbled Streets......?

The Sorrentine Peninsula, high up, with a view over the bay of Naples towards Naples and Vesuvius. Napoli looks nice from a distance and you're far enough away from Vesuvius that if it blows up you'll have a good view but should hopefully be OK. (Unless it REALLY blows up, which is possible, it's been dormant for longer than usual and this usually means the next eruption will be BIG. There's no way I'd want to live in Naples or the surrounding urban sprawl. If Vesuvius erupts without warning thousands will be killed.)

Cape Verde - Sal

Maddy70 · 07/07/2023 10:57

I also going to throw northern Spain into the mix. Stunning

I'm glad so many people have said Croatia, we'll be there in August.

My favourite place so far is Corsica.

In Corsica I loved St Florent in particular

Menorca. Ciutadella for cobbled streets, restaurants, harbour. Any southern beach for calm warm waters and family friendly beaches.

Anyone been to the South of France?

Carcassonne is lovely but I do prefer northern Spain

twistyizzy · 07/07/2023 10:59

Easdale Island below Oban on West Coast Scotland. Mirror slate pools, stunning skies and dolphins swimming past. Magical.

Samos

Glencoe was my first thought when I saw your title, but doesn’t fit with your post.

Too crowded and busy. Spent hours crawling in and out of St Tropez, Cannes Monaco one spring Tuesday out of holiday time and vowed never to return.
Boggle Hole youth hostel is perfect for cobbled street harbour vibe 🥰

Squaffle · 07/07/2023 11:06

Scottish highlands every time!

Bluebells1970 · 07/07/2023 11:08

Montserrat in Spain. Just breathtaking views.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 07/07/2023 11:10

I think you'd like st Paul de vence

FindingMeno · 07/07/2023 11:13

I agree with Kefalonia.
But Sweden was stunning too!

I've been to South of France numerous times as my parents lived there and it was only busy at the Cannes festivals time and when the grand Prix was on in Monaco. Two very small portions of time!

Stresa on Lake Maggiore
The drive down the Pacific Coast Hwy from San Francisco to LA

MissAmbrosia · 07/07/2023 11:32

South of France - Antibes and Villefranche sur Mer. Aigues Mortes. Canal boat on the Camargue.

beguilingeyes · 07/07/2023 11:37

Vietnam. I could spend my life cruising around Halong Bay. And the food!
I want to go to Kefalonia solely because of Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

I’m sure it was the travelling between. We were staying half an hour inland and it was beautiful. I’d go if it was via yacht!

I like the other end - Narbonne, Gruissan and Bezier are lovely

Lindau is lovely and my favourite place in the world is Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Lake Garda
The whole of the garden route in South Africa.

From Cape Town through the wine region and all alone the coast. Just breathtaking. So beautiful that it's almost unreal.
