I mean - who looks that good in all their photos. She’s just so beautiful and incredibly photogenic! Not to mention extremely good at tennis, all other sports and everything else in between. William could not have chosen a better wire!

The Princess of Wales, 41, was cheering on the Prince, 41, as he took part in the Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Charity Polo Cup 2023 at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor this afternoon.

Who cares 🙄
I'm sure we'd all look fabulous if we had the same wealth and privilege.

Brefugee · 07/07/2023 14:36

poor Charlene now seems deeply unhappy though.

StrawberryWater · 07/07/2023 14:54

Eh I don’t like her outfits when she dresses for official occasions. She looks so much better when she’s allowed to dress down, be more sporty or countryside and when she’s doing things she enjoys.

she's allowed to wear whatever she wants, but she is very keen on making a certain impression. She is going for respectable Queen now.

No one asked her to wear floaty dresses for years when the first gust of wind was showing her underwear at every official event.

I don't know what issues the poor woman had to fight, but I hope she's over the last few years that sounded awful for her.

caringcarer · 07/07/2023 15:08

@dontbejealousofmyartisticflair, what makes you think coming from a struggling family would make a person a good Queen? You say she did minimum studies but she has a degree. She worked for her parents company before marriage. Lots of people work for their family firm. Coming from a wealthy background DD OES not make a person a bad person.

the whole point of not coming from a struggling family is that she had all the opportunities and choices, and could have done anything she wanted, because they could afford it. She had freedom and choices. Business, travel, art, fashion, it was all available to her.

Yes she has a degree, so do most of us, and what did she do with it?

They had to find something for her to have been doing, she famously didn't even live anywhere her parents, she didn't do any work. She managed a couple of days with Jigsaw when the press was getting intrusive, even the Queen asked what she actually did.

I have no issue with the individual, I just don't agree that she is a representative of anything and that smiling and waving are not enough to make someone a Queen. Can you imagine the conversations with other royals when she met all these career women? She hasn't got a clue about the real world.

caringcarer · 07/07/2023 15:30

For hundreds of years being a good Queen has been about having a career but about producing heirs and not doing anything to embarrass the RF. Lots of SAHM's still make a career out of bringing up their children. I don't think a career woman would have been content to attend functions, shake hands and meet and greet random strangers whilst appearing interested, whilst always under scrutiny. Her life would not suit me because I have built a career and would not have been satisfied to do her job. That's why I think she will be a good Queen because she doesn't have a career and appears not to want one and seems happy to bring up her children and do the official functions.

Grapewrath · 07/07/2023 15:36

She’s not at all natural and has very clearly had Botox. This isn’t a criticism as I have too, but she’s had Botox and probably fillers.
i dint think she’s attractive really and she’s very boring imo

pilates · 07/07/2023 16:36

@Grapewrath how can you say someone is boring when you don’t know them? Catherine does have to act in a certain way because she is royalty. She doesn’t have much choice really. Not sure what you expect?

Chickychoccyegg · 07/07/2023 17:03

I find her very average looking, like a lot of wealthy women of her age, not bad looking, but we'll groomed.
I met her very recently in Edinburgh, and she seemed nice, very polite.
The op did sound rather gushing, as if written by Katie's pr team , if I had to choose, which I also think is rather sad and horrible, I'd say Meghan is better looking.

but you'd think we have moved away from just producing heir and being a Stepford Wife.

It's the decade before she got married when she didn't do anything and didn't have any interest that is sad.

Of course she would have had to give up most of her careers like the others did, even William did if you believe his PR, but at least she would have shown she had a brain and knew how to use it.

I remember when I saw Meghan on Suits I thought she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Herself and Kate are both very attractive women.

Nogbadthebad · 07/07/2023 18:21

'The op did sound rather gushing, as if written by Katie's pr team' - no, these posts always open the doors to pages of criticism about looks, thinness, demeanor, clothes, work, marriage, children etc., It's far more likely to be a journalist or someone looking for snark.

MrsMarzetti · 07/07/2023 18:33

DewinDwl · 07/07/2023 11:05

The thing that depresses me is how restrictive her role seems to be. There is no need for it. Think about people like queen Maxima in the Netherlands and Letizia in Spain - they had great professional careers in competitive fields before they even met their spouses. I realise the fair comparison with be with Camilla but that's a whole other thread.

In that respect Maxima and Letizia truly are someone to look up to. They are also true modern ambassadors for their country - for example showcasing young designers etc. Kate's outfits are often not only old-fashioned but old for her age to the point of sometimes making her look really odd.

In comparison to other monarchies the role Kate is allowed to play seems practically Victorian, bland and irrelevant to people's lives to the point of absurdity. IMO Kate's role could be an engine to modernise the monarchy but they are so out of touch they don't realise. One of the RM's many mistakes - bring on the republic!

Why ridicule a woman for what she wears and for putting her children before her job?

pilates · 07/07/2023 18:37

@Nogbadthebad exactly what I said. It’s just a way to bitch and pitch Meghan and Catherine against each other. So if anyone, it could be Meghan’s pr team to stir up hatred. Who knows?

LetsPlayShadowlands · 07/07/2023 18:52

I think you're being unreasonable. I also think you're being pathetic.

Give me Kathy Burke or Miryam Margolyes over Kate any day. Not 'glamorous'. Not 'Picture perfect'. But I'd rather have them as my Queen.

ArcaneWireless · 07/07/2023 18:59

or someone looking for snark

And finding it in shiteloads.

“This is not a criticism but …”
or
”I find them this that or the other” - when they don’t know her from an egg.
or
“painfully thin/drawn/haggard/old looking”
or
”someone else is prettier”
or
whatever else is insulting to her life, parents, education and anything and everything else.

A thread which is at least 95% pile on and that was the whole point of it eh?

Gushingly complimentary my arse.

DewinDwl · 07/07/2023 19:48

MrsMarzetti · 07/07/2023 18:33

Why ridicule a woman for what she wears and for putting her children before her job?

Re read my post and you will find that my criticism is for the role and the institution. I don't know KM - I imagine you don't either but you seem sure about her priorities?

I assume that what we see of her is mediated and controlled by the royal family. I think she has scope to play a very different role, a less shallow one that is more relevant to people's lives. However the monarchy doesn't seem interested in some of her strengths. Maybe they are right and this reflects the views of the majority of the country who just want to see matronly outfits and shaking of hands and cutting of ribbons?

I think it's a shame and a missed opportunity that Kate's role is so restricted but on the other hand as a republican I think whatever mistakes bring the Windsors downfall are welcome.

Maireas · 07/07/2023 19:52

Absolutely, @MrsMarzetti . Why ridicule her? Indeed.

Maireas · 07/07/2023 20:07

I couldn't agree more, @IronCurtain , it's so depressing.
Apart from the body shaming going on, accusing someone of looking "middle aged" is such a ridiculous insult.

Forestfire12345 · 07/07/2023 20:16

She's had work done and a team who do her hair and made up !
Sound like a child with a crush

IronCurtain · 07/07/2023 20:34

See, I find that presumptuous and arrogant. Aware of the influence you might have on others - fine. A role model? That’s not something you can decide yourself.

Perhaps if you are the sort of person to equate fame with desirable or aspirational, then you are more likely to be upset when a famous person doesn’t fit your personal definition of success. But I’d have thought most women beyond their teenage years realise famous people (women!) are just people, and to hold them to absurd standards in all areas of their lives just because they’re well-known is…ridiculous?

Think of a woman in your life. Maybe your mum? Or sister? Would you tear her down if she looked less than (your idea of) beautiful and fashionable, if she prioritised her kids over her job, if she decided to be a working mum, if she paid for childcare, if she had different interests to yours? Would you berate her day in day out for failing to be an ‘appropriate’ role model?

Isn’t feminism all about leaving women the fuck alone to be who they want to be, provided they’re not hurting anyone else?

In the same way we judge the public persona of anyone in the public eye. I just find her quite dull and not very entertaining. I find her fashion sense bland and her interviews are very bland
Behind closed doors she might be quite the riot😁
