I mean - who looks that good in all their photos. She’s just so beautiful and incredibly photogenic! Not to mention extremely good at tennis, all other sports and everything else in between. William could not have chosen a better wire!

The Princess of Wales, 41, was cheering on the Prince, 41, as he took part in the Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Charity Polo Cup 2023 at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor this afternoon.

@GreenMini would you comment that somebody was ‘so bloody fat’? If not, why not?

Did either of them ever have a job before casting their lot in with the RF?

they made it their job to marry well.

At least Pippa was active in sport and charity before they got so famous.

Sweetashunni · 07/07/2023 12:42

The NHS BMI tool says the healthy weight range for a white woman of 41 who is 5’10 is
9st 3lb - 12st 7lb.

Kate looks to be about 9 stone, she’s got a lot of lean muscle. So she’s at the slimmer end of healthy but not ‘dangerously thin’.

And I’m laughing at the suggestions people are ‘just pointing out she’s underweight out of concern’, what would happen if we said the same about a fat celeb? Accusations of faux concern and bullying, that’s what.

Double standards here are unreal.

Diana had all of that except the decent family of origin which admittedly counts for a lot. It is a gilded cage.

Kate and William appear to have a much happier marriage than Charles and Diana. Kate also has a close family unit with her parents and siblings. She also appears to be much more mentally robust than Diana. I also think the press go far easier on her than they did on Diana. The interest and obsession with Diana was just crazy compared to now.

No life is perfect but I reckon in Kate's case, the advantages vastly outweigh the disadvantages.

35965a · 07/07/2023 12:49

A lot of the media pics of her are filtered. She is attractive and well groomed, but she wasn’t always as slim and polished. Most women would look more attractive with her money and life and staff.

Comedycook · 07/07/2023 12:53

Kate is naturally attractive. If you're not naturally attractive, you can improve yourself with time and money but you'll never be a beauty. Kate is lucky in that she's good looking AND has the time and money to invest in herself so can look really great.

Do you think beyond what you see all made ready for the public to see only perception that they want the public to see? I don't believe in picture perfect and lovely pictures just to show the world one tiny tiny side of the whole picture

IncompleteSenten · 07/07/2023 11:44

Yes but the price is too bloody high.
What's the saying? A bird in a gilded cage?

what are the actual downsides?

i do worry that she often wears long sleeves and high necks in the warm weather though.
Maybe she has a load of ill-advised youthful tattoos?

Brefugee · 07/07/2023 13:14

Sweetashunni · 07/07/2023 11:48

She is a perfectly bland Fiona Sloane (that we had in the 80s, i had/have several among my friends and family) who are good at what they do: being a Fiona Sloane. Good hostesses, look lovely, support their husbands Big Job (with fat salary) and produce lovely well mannered children to feed into the Sloaney Feedback Loop.

Sounds like a lovely life to me

-runs for cover-

I'm not knocking it, i moved in those circles a lot and the only thing that bugged me back then was the bloody outfit. I had short hair (a no-no for the Fionas) because one simply HAD to wear an Alice-band. Velvet for preference.

We had a lot of fun, especially when we all piled into the country pile for a weekend or, better, a wedding.

Lizardonachair · 07/07/2023 13:17

@KimberleyClark how on earth would you know if she's naturally thin? Of course she looks fuller in the face in college, that was twenty odd years ago didn't we all 😂 I really think that people with weight issues generally are the ones who like to point a finger as to who is "naturally thin" because they are jealous that people actually are without trying 🤷🏻‍♀️

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 07/07/2023 13:18

I mean she’s a fairly normal woman so I don’t know why you’re gushing quite so much, but she seems pleasant enough.

And I can think of many celebs who would look better if they lost 5 stone and were also in the middle of their healthy weight range. Would this comment be acceptable on a thread about one of them?

I think most people are usually slimmer in their youth than middle age....rather than the other way round. By the way, if you believe that some people are naturally thin, do you also believe that some people are naturally fat?

Brefugee · 07/07/2023 13:22

that is exactly the point of her. She's fine, she's not a stunner, she is fairly bland and wears fairly bland and inoffensive clothes. She has lovely shiny hair, and seems to like a lot of sports and be good at them.

She shakes hands, makes small talk and stands where she is supposed to. Completely inoffensive, is said to have a GSOH and be clever enough to have a good conversation. She studied history of art so presumably has interest (or did good research 😂) and lives in palaces and castles chock full of paintings and so on. Sounds like an excellent deal to me.

I had elocution, deportment and "how to seat people at a dinner party" type lessons in the upper 6th (3 of them). And ballroom dancing for all the coming out parties we would be going to. I should have sucked it up and married Edward. I'd be the bloody Duchess of Edinburgh now! (note: I did move in not-unadjacent-to-Royal circles but never met Ed, so it is a kind of half-fantasy.)

OTOH: i have never suited an alice band so I'm out.

julylover · 07/07/2023 06:36

I’m just a plump middle aged woman (same age as Kate actually!) who is slightly in awe of her. It’s just the way she can turn her hand to anything on these visits they do and do a good job. If I was in her position I’d be crap - I’m shite at tennis for starters! 😂

Are you actually being serious right now? 😅 If Serena Williams played Kate Middleton, she's hardly going to smash her into submission. The Rock would probably let her win a wrestling match with a double leg takedown!

In the UK, everyone else exists to make the Royals look good – that's how your country's servant/caste system works!

As for general exposure to sports (and education) from a young age in general, it's a £££/private school thing here in the UK but a more well rounded education is accessible in other countries, eg where I was brought up.

OriginalUsername2 · 07/07/2023 13:24

No interest in the royals but she does remind me of a Disney princess, in video too. I think she’s doing a great job playing the role!

Brefugee · 07/07/2023 13:26

but if you go to private school and that uni you do tend to learn to play at least a passable game of tennis, at least so that you don't make a fool of yourself or your opponent and/or partner.
Same way that you know how to hold a wine glass, how to make polite dinner table talk, how to be a gracious host/guest, and which hand to hold your knife and fork in.

We don't all go through all that and then marry a prince/earl/duke/nob but it is quite normal. There are usually tedious amounts of piano lessons too. (i can't play a note now, yah boo sucks to you Miss Stringer, all that practice and effort and I STILL DON'T GET IT)

Ahem. Where were we?

SunsetsInVenice · 07/07/2023 13:27

She is a beautiful young woman. In such a classic sense.

caringcarer · 07/07/2023 13:28

I think Catherine will make a wonderful Queen. She is always well groomed and very polite. I saw her once but not to speak with. She was shaking hands with people in the crowd and bending down to speak with children. She seemed genuine. I think she supports William very well and I think he picked very carefully and well as not many women would want her role in the spotlight every day.

BeggyMitchell · 07/07/2023 13:40

Wow so many of you are so indoctrinated to this bullshit it's scary.

She's just an adult human female like most of us here. And I'd say quite a few here would exceed her in wit and beauty (ok I've turned in to Austen suddenly but ykwim).

I don't agree.

She had no career, did the minimum studies, showed no interest whatsoever in anything in the 10 years before she got married. Even Brooklyn Beckham is doing more.

The media are trying to sell that she takes photos of her children, and has now learned the piano. Amazing. What else does she have to do.

She didn't come from a struggling background herself, but look at Queen Maxima, look at Queen Letizia.

Of course if you are from a wealthy family and enjoy a life of travelling and partying until you settle in your 30s, good for you. But that really does not make you a wonderful Queen.

SunsetsInVenice · 07/07/2023 13:50

I definitely wouldn't match Catherine for beauty. Not with this nose!

KimberleyClark · 07/07/2023 13:56

Or look at Princess Charlene of Monaco. She was an Olympic swimmer before she became a royal

Lizardonachair · 07/07/2023 14:23

@Comedycook yes absolutely I think some people are naturally fatter because they have a bigger appetite than others. I think people with weight issues find comfort in slating slim women as not "naturally thin" as they hope that they are starving themselves. They can't take the fact that some people just don't eat as much without having to try. I find it horrible that women always pile on skinny women and slate them. And yet with the overweight models they are told "be yourself girl, you look amazing"!
