Dishwasher salesman pestering. AIBU?

I am absolutely sick of him constantly at the door pestering everyone including the elderly he comes over once a day sometimes and has been to this house at least twice this week and others also.

I think this is bordering on harassment but DH says he is just doing his job and say no politely. Some neighbours have complained and also some are elderly and vulnerable and should not have to put up with this on their doorstep. I cannot think of any reason why this is necessary but do not know who to complain to to stop him. Does anyone know who I report to?

like o said, I am so annoyed by it all but DH says it is fine so I am not sure aibu?

Another one who has never heard of a door to door dishwasher salesman!

I would call 101 and let them know. I’ve done it with Nottingham Knockers and some very pushy gutter cleaning people who o suspected were scammers and the police have responded to my surprise.

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 18:00

If you're talking about a guy selling cleaning products (sponges and clothes) then they're often criminals looking for vulnerable people who live alone. It's worth reporting them to the police and telling your neighbours not to answer the door.

If you're talking about a guy trying to sell dishwashers then I have no suggestion but would love to know more!

Juanmartinez · 03/07/2023 18:01

Double glazing- yep
Gutter cleaning- yep
Utility companies -yep
Sky broadband chap - yep
Dishwasher salesman - Nope

determinedtomakethiswork · 03/07/2023 18:02

Should be talking about the sponges, for goodness sake, not the bloody dishwasher!

Aren't those guys just out of prison? I've been in my house for a long time and a few times they have knocked on the door with a leaflet to say that they are out of prison and need jobs.

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 18:04

The ex-convict thing is part of the scam.

Kingsparkle · 03/07/2023 18:08

@determinedtomakethiswork - no such door to door sales scheme exists to help people recently released from prison. It’s a scam and often run by gangs.

I was just about to say this. Usually they're legitimate and just trying to make some money. The ones who I've encountered are always very polite and friendly. But actual door to door dishwasher salesman? Surely doesn't exist?'

Is it machines he is selling or a person (cleaner) to come in and hand wash your dishes after every meal 😂

Are you in the UK OP? I've never heard of a door to door dishwasher salesperson. Not even had a cloth sales person before. I thought this type of sales persons stopped last century!

he is selling actual dishwashers the machine that cleans your dishes. We have often had them here but perhaps it is a muslim thing. I dont know but it was eid last week so perhaps to do with that?

Juanmartinez · 03/07/2023 18:14

What's being a Muslim and Eid got to do with it?

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 18:15

Erm, no, definitely not a Muslim thing.

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 18:15

@MermaidEyes

They're not legitimate. They're criminals. Google Nottingham Knockers.

MermaidEyes · 03/07/2023 18:15

What have Eid and selling dishwashers got to do with each other?! Anyway, I'd be reporting him. You can do it online, most police forces have online crime forms you can fill in. Take a photo too if you can.

Never heard of them! Interesting! Luckily I politely say no thanks. I have enough cleaning products I don't use 😆

JeandeServiette · 03/07/2023 18:21

Eid and dishwashers?

I'd let the local PCSOs know.

Theunamedcat · 03/07/2023 18:24

brassbells · 03/07/2023 18:26

Nottingham knockers look them up

Does your town NOT have a no door to door sales rule?

Are you in UK?

Why would you buy a dishwasher from a bloke on the doorstep

I don't get it

How many times a year do people buy a dishwasher?

Kingsparkle · 03/07/2023 18:31

Well this took a turn, I have now learned about how crockery and utensils must be washed if they’ve touched something haram though so that might come in handy one day.

Random789 · 03/07/2023 18:32

Yes, for sure, absolutely, you are definitely a legit poster who legit believes that flogging dishwashers door-to-door is a Muslim thing, traditionally associated with Eid.

CC4712 · 03/07/2023 18:32

Knock knock 'blah, blah ......'

'Well, yes, I have a dishwasher sized space in my kitchen and was wondering where on earth to buy one from?' ' I'm SO glad you rocked up at my door today!!!'

🙄😂

If he won't give his firm I suggest you call the police the next time he's in the area. Alert them via 101 beforehand.

This ^^

I am a Muslim and can confirm dishwashers are indeed a Muslim thing... especially associated with Eid. We gather around it every Eid (as others might around a Christmas tree) and exchange presents, which must then all be washed (regardless of what they are).
