I'm off for four days to Spain in September, and we went to France earlier in the year for a week. Cost of living hasn't really affected us as yet luckily. Fixed for gas/electric until October, just fixed on the mortgage which has added an extra £90 a month but I've recently had a pay rise so we're still fine. Food has gone up but we're frugal anyway. I WFH full time and DP works in the office once a week so our fuel bill is low and we share an old car. We're very lucky to have good savings, good wages and fairly low outgoings in the grand scheme of things.

YallaYallaaa · 03/07/2023 14:39

We’re just back from NY, and we’ll be in the ME in December.

It is more expensive than previous years, but I still want to make up for travel missed over covid.

Overthebow · 03/07/2023 14:44

We haven’t been affected that much by the COL. Bills and mortgage have gone up but so have our salaries so we have the same amount of disposable this year as last. We’ve still gone on our usual holidays, 3 this year.

Butterflycircle · 03/07/2023 14:45

No mortgage and DS is a young adult so we are still taking two holidays this year.

Ceramiccathy · 03/07/2023 14:47

Definitely not, COL is negatively impacting roughly 20-25% of people - many on MN seem to forget that not everyone is struggling, in fact the majority aren’t

Crunchymum · 03/07/2023 14:49

COL is negatively impacting roughly 20-25% of people

where did you get this figure from?

allofamuddle · 03/07/2023 14:51

No holiday here.

ManateeFair · 03/07/2023 14:52

We're still going on holiday - but we don't have children, so although the cost of living has certainly left us with less disposable income than we might previously have had, it hasn't impacted us as much as it would impact on a family with three kids. And not having kids also means we can go away outside of school holidays, when accommodation is usually cheaper. I think if we had kids we would probably be either scaling back holiday plans considerably or staying at home.

Having said I’m on holiday… this is obviously bollocks.

Even though we’re lucky enough to have plenty of disposable income, inflation makes everyone poorer. We’re all negatively impacted, even if it’s in a ‘save less’ or ‘going to Spain not the Maldives’ type way.

Finefinefine · 03/07/2023 14:54

No mortgage, no kids so had around 8 breaks so far this year (Uk and abroad) am on annual leave at the moment with 2 UK trips lined up for this week. Next abroad trip is in September. The only COL effects we are feeling are fuel bills and the occasional “WTF? That was 20p less last time I bought it!” in the supermarket.

FarTooHotForMe · 03/07/2023 14:54

I’ve been abroad 5 times this year and each time the airport is busy and the planes have been full. The COL crisis is not affecting everyone.

FisherThem · 03/07/2023 14:54

No holiday despite pay rises and be h high earners. Costs of utilities, mortgages, COL etc means belt tightening for the foreseeable future

Also interested in these figures.... I mean we aren't cancelling holidays and are high earner,s but can definitely feel it. I would say everyone is negatively impacted, that impact is just more of less felt depending on how much spare cash there is.

Lyricallie · 03/07/2023 14:56

We are still going abroad (and have already) but it is giving us pause. We were considering getting away at Hogmanay to Paris but I think we won’t just due to being careful with money.

potentialmediator · 03/07/2023 14:56

Due to COL and it’s impact on our business and outgoings, we aren’t going away this summer. We’ll visit family instead (luckily MIL lives in Devon/my family near London so nice to visit.) Would love some guaranteed sun though. Hoping we can afford next year.

20-25% are being so negatively impacted they’re having to make adjustments.

Not everyone needs to cut back, I’m actually traveling more this year than normal as I want to enjoy the rest of my maternity leave

MoonMum90 · 03/07/2023 14:57

We've had a 2 week holiday abroad already

Have another 1 week away in 2 weeks time

Then 2 other long weekends abroad before the end of the year

col hasn't impacted us our mortgage went up by £130 but we can absorb it and like pp have said when I was at the airport early June it was packed and was the busiest travel day of the year apparently

CherryLipgloss · 03/07/2023 14:58

We have been affected by COL but can still afford a holiday, and we missed out on foreign holidays during covid so are keen to go this year.

Beezknees · 03/07/2023 15:00

I've already had my holiday. I don't go away in the summer, the weather in the UK is nice enough and I'm not paying the prices that cottages and holiday parks charge in the summer holidays.

I usually go away at Easter or the May half term.

UrsulaIsMyQueen · 03/07/2023 15:02

COL is affecting us, but we’re still having a holiday as our family live abroad and we won’t see them otherwise, so it’s a priority for us.

nospoonleftbehind · 03/07/2023 15:03

Nope! No holidays - and we're both on high salaries (although US firms so no salary increase here). Tooo many things are just too expensive now.

TheWalrusdidbeseech · 03/07/2023 15:03

Holidays are not what I will sacrifice first frankly. My kids have been punished enough during the lockdowns, they need a break. I don't want to hear the word "staycation" ever again, so we're flying away.

I agree with above, airports and everything are still full, the COL doesn't seem to have affected the majority much.

It's not just holidays, hairdressers, beauty salons, so many luxury and "non-essential" places are still over-booked, it's strange.

vicaragechristmas · 03/07/2023 15:04

I’m holidaying in the UK as usual - not that it’s much cheaper than some foreign holidays but it suits us. We’ve just bought a big tent though, to minimise the costs of holidaying in terms of rental. We’ve been fairly well inoculated against the CoL crisis but it’s starting to bite now.

StormShadow · 03/07/2023 15:04

It's a shame there can't be a 3rd option- holiday but downgraded. I think there'll be some people doing this too.

Newnamenewname109870 · 03/07/2023 15:06

It’s impacting everyone but not necessarily so much it stops holidays. We’re still going away but I miss the days when things were so much cheaper. We used to do more. We also chose to stay in a smaller house instead of move up.
