Trying to work out if it is good or not. Does this look like a child that has artistic potential and how old would you expect the child that drew that to be?

Innate artistic potential/talent is a myth. Artists get good from years and years (tens of thousands of hours) of practice, from learning the techniques for things like measuring relative sizes of objects, from practising working with different media, textures and light sources, from thinking about things in a creative way, and from having a passion for what they do.
A child with a passion for art will almost certainly be able to become good at it, disbarring any impediments. If your child has passion, encourage it and don't worry too much about what "level" they're at right now!

Innate artistic potential/talent is a myth

Absolute Rubbish.

My DD was always a brilliant Artist as a small child, way above my capability, and was far too young to have practised for ‘tens of thousands of hours’.
She was noted as ‘Gifted and Talented in Art’ at Primary School.
She will soon be starting her Fine Art degree and has offers from all the Unis she applied for.
Her talent is definitely innate.

I could practise until the end of time and I’d still have no artistic talent.

Beachbreak2411 · 29/06/2023 17:51

6 or 7.

Fightyouforthatpie · 29/06/2023 17:53

37

DailyEnergyCrisis · 29/06/2023 17:54

I think a talented 6 or 7 year old, or a ‘normal’ 8-9 year old.

adriftabroad · 29/06/2023 17:55

Also think 6 or 7

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 29/06/2023 17:47

So the posters replying 6/7 aren't being very genuine are they? It really really isn't the norm for that age group to produce paintings like the one in the op. I mean you can guarantee a 6/7 year olds painting will be amazing 😁 but it won't be as technically good as that one.

but there's no "norm".

To answer the ridiculous question from the OP to guess an age, it could be 6 or 7 years old, because every Y2 class in the country has at least a few children who will draw just as well or better,
or it could be 11, because every Y6 class has at least a couple of kids who will draw and paint on that level.

Or it could be 48. Or the cat if he's in the right mood.

BramblyHedge · 29/06/2023 17:55

8 based on my folder of art done by my now 17 year old DS who is doing art a level.

I think a talented 6 or 7 year old, or a ‘normal’ 8-9 year old.

My children couldn't ever draw a straight line, girls included, and disliked it too.

I think that picture is excellent. Brilliant for 6 and under, talented for under 10.

CountessWindyBottom · 29/06/2023 17:57

I spent my time drawing as a child and I would have done something like around 9-10

IncompleteSenten · 29/06/2023 17:57

9 or 10 ish?

SpringSummerDreamer · 29/06/2023 17:59

7

Terraria · 29/06/2023 17:59

My daughter started to do those colour shades at 7/8 so I think around this age.

littlecornishsea · 29/06/2023 17:59

@amiaweirdoo are you going to return and tell us how old, or will it be 20 pages of people guessing ages until you tell us?

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 29/06/2023 17:59

It is a ridiculous question @TheWalrusdidbeseech I do wish OP's would just write 'my 8 year old painted this, isn't it amazing?' but then she'd have a load of replies saying 'my 3 year old can paint better than that' yadda yadda. Just a bit mean spirited really isn't it? There is very few 6/7 year olds who could create that. If yours can then they are incredibly talented.

Ws2210 · 29/06/2023 18:02

I love the picture. But godamit OP how old?

LightDrizzle · 29/06/2023 18:04

I’d say 8 or 9.

@amiaweirdoo are you going to return and tell us how old, or will it be 20 pages of people guessing ages until you tell us?

we've done that wrong. With these threads, one poster should answer after the other from
1 year old
2 years old
to 100 years old

and wait for the OP to come back.
I am guessing the OP did not like the first replies so the photo will soon disappear because "privacy concerns".

PurpleWalls · 29/06/2023 18:05

Is it copied or completely from scratch?

ArcticBells · 29/06/2023 18:06

How many guesses do you need OP? Hmm

Beneficialchampion2 · 29/06/2023 18:06

In before OP tells us their kid is 14...

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 29/06/2023 18:06

Adrian mole aged 24 and 1/4

Especially if it’s not Queen Victoria but a very good likeness of OP herself!

steff13 · 29/06/2023 18:08

I'd say 10 or 11.

cpphelp · 29/06/2023 18:08

40 I reckon. I'm 37 and couldn't do that
