AIBU to think Rishi Sunak is actively trying to piss off the entire country?

Or does he genuinely not get it?

Every time he speaks he seems further detached from reality. His interview today was insanely out of touch.

Got a mortgage? Stuffed

Work in the public sector? Stuffed.

Rent your home? Stuffed

Live in a small town? Stuffed

Supported Brexit? Disaster

Not to mention the Johnson honours scandal and Liz Truss.

AIBU to think the only people happy are his fellow super rich?

Rishi Sunak urges people to hold their nerve on interest rates

The prime minister continues to back the Bank of England as mortgage pressure rises for homeowners.

On this thread I've given a straightforward example of how Labour would improve the NHS and how they would fund it. This kind of information is freely available, it's on their website. Just because you don't read the details doesn't mean they're not there.

I’m not sure I get the earlier report

It looks like mist Nom Doms stay for fewer than five years

Figure 2 shows that for the tax years prior to the year ending 2021 most non-domiciled taxpayers are UK resident for five or fewer years. The figure demonstrates that those departing from one year to the next are normally replaced by new non-domiciled taxpayers coming to the UK. However, in the tax year ending 2021 there were around 6,000 fewer new arrivals compared to the tax year ending 2020.

So if most come for fewer than five years, pay some tax but go before the 15 years is up and the tax situation changes again won’t the new arrivals who used to replace them just go to more favourable countries?

Also the red line on figure 1 does decline sharply after the reform, numbers are fewer.

Can you see why there’s a difference between the report you linked and this?

Not sure I’m seeing why

I am a fan of the free market, less bureaucracy and prudent spending. The Tory policies align better with my values.

Do your values include good public services and support for the less well off and disadvantaged in our society?

They are nice to have but optional compared to the above.

The Tories also have more charismatic leaders and that's important for a country that is on the decline.

Charismatic leaders - William Hague? John Major? Theresa May? Liz Truss? Rishi Sunak?

A country that is on the decline - The Tories have had 13 years to reverse any decline and by every measure things have got worse.

I think Rishi Sunak is very charismatic. He's good at making speeches and comes across as very polished.

You are joking I take it?

Yeah, got to be satire!
The tories have worked their little cotton socks off to make the country the shitshow it is 😆

I have zero interest in charisma. I want competence, intelligence, integrity and a moral compass. All qualities lacking in politics for so long that half the population has forgotten they even exist.

Bloody hell. "Nice to have"? Pray you are never disabled or find yourself the carer for a disabled person, @Emotionalstorm. You may discover that the support we pay taxes for is a bit more than optional.

LoopyLoo1991 · 26/06/2023 11:27

Isn't that the job of a majority of politicians?

And prime ministers/presidents in particular???

Quiverer · 26/06/2023 11:28

Emotionalstorm · 26/06/2023 08:35

This is why I would never vote labour. The Tories have always had better ideas. They're flawed and not perfect but that's not an excuse to vote labour. The Tories also have more charismatic leaders and that's important for a country that is on the decline.

What "better ideas"? The ideas that have led us to current rates of inflation?

I'm struggling to see charisma in any of the many leaders the Tories have inflicted on us - and the fact that they have had so many is a gross failure in itself. And before you suggest Johnson was charismatic, no, there is no way that a lying, corrupt buffoon fits that description.

Notonthestairs · 26/06/2023 11:44

The Conservatives have had 13 years to improve the country and have failed on every account.

A well educated fit and healthy workforce requires decent public services. You won't get one without the other.

I don't care about charisma. I want competence, intelligence and integrity. Sunak hasn't shown anything to prove to me he has any of those qualities.

It's this "charisma" crap that's left us with 25 years of crap government, first with Brown, then with Clegg, and now with Sunak. Voters need to start ignoring all the media image rubbish and start to apply a little common sense to abilities rather than how politicians look and sound on the telly!

They have improved the country for the wealthy so for them it's job done✅
They don't want good public services, that would work against their interests, the more stressed and unhealthy the people are the easier is to crush and oppress us so that the rich can carry on getting richer✅

And there you have it ...... Tory philosophy summed up in one sentence.

For me the mark of a civilised society is one that takes care of the disadvantaged.

Tory philosophy: I'm alright Jack.

"Voters need to start ignoring all the media image rubbish and start to apply a little common sense to abilities rather than how politicians look and sound on the telly!"

++++

Whilst I fully agree with you, sadly this is never ever going to happen.

Plus anyone with any actual abilities such a being successful in their current career or business would be mad to consider a career in politics.

So instead you get career politicians who have never had a real job and are completely out of touch with ordinary people's lives and priorities- and this applies to both Conservative, Labour and Lib politicians.

You can only give out money if you have money. So the country should prioritise acquiring the ability to help before it bankrupts itself.

I honestly wish we got David Cameron back. He's the best leader we've had since Thatcher.

The Tory leaders are a major reason for the UK's decline. And IIRC, you are a big fan of their plans for "Free"Hmm childcare provision.

Are you finding yourself more and more confused these days @Emotionalstorm?

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/06/2023 14:17

Oh and the country has already been pretty much bankrupted. Due to very poor decisions made Tory leaders followed by Trussterfuck Economics.

We're in the shit because of the Tories.

Whatafool123 · 26/06/2023 14:19

Hold your nerve?? Seriously? People can't pay their mortgages now and the banks and other lenders aren't going to wait for their repayments. Houses are going to be sold or repossessed and this is only going to get worse. I am old enough to remember the repossessions of the early 90s (and to have witnessed them as a very junior clerk in a law firm) and it was dreadful. I hope we don't end up like that again!

StormShadow · 26/06/2023 14:29

Very interesting stat here, which I didn't know. Of the 50 constituencies with the most mortgage holders, 48 were Tory last time.

There won't be any repossessions, banks already said they will wait a year till the GE.

We won’t because virtually the whole economy is predicated on over inflated house prices. Lenders have already been instructed by Hunt to do anything possible to avoid repossessions. This is nothing like the 90s.

Then they will promise help probably in return for winning the general election and get their home owning voters back who have been waiting for a reason to vote them this whole time.
