They look weird and like you've forgotten half your clothes...

Surely they must see them on other people and know how bad they are.

It's a very odd fashion choice.

SweetSakura · 24/06/2023 15:08

There was a mum at my daughter's school fair wearing nothing but nude cycling shorts and a nude crop top bra thing - she basically looked naked from any distance, and not much better up close.

Yetanothernamechangeagain · 24/06/2023 15:17

I was discussing this very same thing with DD13 the other day and she agreed it was a very bad look.

It all seems a bit Emperor’s new clothes

Leggings were launched for a laugh.
Only the terminally dim have failed to get the joke and wear them in public.

You sound lovely

INeedAnotherName · 24/06/2023 15:33

It's awful. I raise you a nude lycra playsuit that showed off everything. I mean everything. Landing strip and nipples. She thought she looked "chefs kiss" instead of ...Well, not going to say it. Young twenty, not pasty skin, not fat as such but definitely not been toning any muscles. Just why?

Guavafish1 · 24/06/2023 15:40

So comfortable for us fat folk

I keep seeing very overweight women wearing chub rub shorts longer than their too short dresses! Awful.

Too many see through leggings this week of various colours with visible tiny pointless thongs underneath, arse all over the place.

Grim.

(Feel like I can say this as a formerly 22 stone person who would never have subjected people to my disgusting arse)

It’s normal for women of all sizes to wear shorts under dresses. I don’t wear them for ‘chub rub’, I just spend most of my time chasing a toddler or carrying a baby and don’t fancy flashing my knickers 🤷‍♀️

The problem is that when these women stand in front of a mirror they think they look good because they are not moving and the light in their bedroom is flattering.

In reality when walking along in broad daylight and in motion every part of them jiggles and if they are even the tiniest bit overweight or not toned, every dimple and saggy bit is emphasised.

Camel toe is enlarged by the tight fit and breasts are squashed.

The material is cheap and the flesh colours are horribly unflattering.

Usually accompanied by massive eyebrows, over the top false eyelashes, over drawn or filled lips, orange foundation or bad fake tan, coffin shaped false nails, Turkey teeth and carrying a fake designer brand handbag and print Baku wouldn't be able to name who is the current Prime Minister, work out a percentage and think Love Island is the be all in life.

What a lovely person @EllaRaines is! (Not)

I'm going to buck the trend - I have a few pairs of these, and they're really comfortable to wear, and to me, they don't feel as casual as dark leggings.

I'm 42, 5ft 2, and a size 8 if that makes any difference.

Each to their own, and I'd not stop wearing them because people may or may not be judging me. Smile

Why do you want to wear something that makes people do a double take, because they think you might be naked? Is it an attention thing?

Amuseaboosh · 24/06/2023 16:35

Nope. I don't look pale or naked in them as I have brown skin, I'm Indian. They look very obviously like clothes on me.

I feel good wearing them, and I don't ever look at how others react to my choice of clothing.

If you get attention based on how you look, that's going to happen regardless. Wear what makes you happy.

EmmaEmerald · 24/06/2023 16:44

Amuseabouche I'm dark skinned and I'm interested in your comment that they don't feel as casual as dark leggings?

I don't see why colour would make a difference to whether seems casual or not. But leggings generally can go either way - except the scrunch or nude type which is a very specific look. Would anyone wear them in an office, I wonder?

Maireas · 24/06/2023 16:45

dustypelmets · 24/06/2023 13:09

They still look better than those awful scrunch-bum leggings!

What would nude scrunch bums look like? I don't think I'm brave enough to google that.

Don't. Very popular with our sixth form girls.

I can only guess this is a deliberate nude look.

ironically, people dressed like this has increased my confidence as I feel less fat now!

Maireas · 24/06/2023 16:47

The whole nude leggings and crop top look is a popular one with teenage girls in particular. Many of our sixth form students wear this to school. They all have very long straightened hair as well. Sometimes it's like having Lady Godivas in the classroom.

dancinfeet · 24/06/2023 17:33

ugh, I came on to mention those horrible butt munch leggings - but I see quite a few people already beat me to it. Am glad it’s not just me who finds them both ridiculous and revolting!

LolaSmiles · 24/06/2023 17:36

It's an awful look and I've never seen anyone look good in it.

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/06/2023 17:49

I think people are entitled to an opinion. If you feel it’s something you look good in, that’s fine, but it’s equally valid for others to disagree with you. We might not say things like that to people’s faces, but we say it internally and judge internally.

There are some styles that suit very few people, men and women. I am not a fan of the abbreviated cycling shorts that are current, if they’re showing butt cheeks. Fortunately, it seems to be mainly the young who’ve embraced that, but I think you have to be slim and toned to carry it off. There are men wearing shorts, who really shouldn’t, imo, but unless specifically asked, would t say anything.

not if you can get a crop top to match and look completely naked -

ThatFraggle · 24/06/2023 17:54

notforonesecond · 24/06/2023 14:59

It’s the little strapped cycling shorted unitard things all the young women are wearing that baffle me the most.

I was out the other week and everyone under 30 seemed to have one on. Fine until you’re naked in a public toilet trying to enable it back up I imagine. I’d be sweating through it looking like borat.

I've been called all sorts because I said in a thread that they are inappropriate to wear at a funeral.

You and me both, ThatFraggle! Oh boy, there were some angry people on that thread. Apparently the only reason for disliking certain clothing choices is jealousy of young, pretty women. OK...

Yes, nude leggings are hideous. I think the test for most clothing items is: if it doesn't look good on the model, there's no hope for the ordinary mortal. These are beyond vile, but then I find nude as a colour really difficult on tops/dresses as well with my pasty English skin. As Amusebouche says, it can work on dark or olive skins but it washes me out completely on jumpers etc and makes me look ill.

Oh dear lord that thread was bonkers! Someone coming on and telling us that we were all like Hyacinth Bucket because we disagreed or wanted teenage girls to dress like Kate Middleton! Very silly.

Tidsleytiddy · 24/06/2023 13:50

I googled too. Anyone old enough to remember Kenny Everett in the leopard print leggings and the arse getting bigger and bigger? 🤣

Ha ha yes! That's exactly what scrunch bum leggings would do in my house anyway 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I did love watching Kenny Everett as a kid.

Tidsleytiddy · 24/06/2023 19:23

Think he was parodying Rod Stewart. Loved it!
