Adam Kay and his husband’s babies

Apologies if this has already been covered.

I read in the paper this morning that AK and his DH have welcomed TWO babies into their lives, born to two different surrogates. One child is six months old and their sibling is two months old.

I genuinely cannot wrap my head around this. It seems so very odd to me. Is it a case of ‘one each’ or ‘get the baby stages over asap’?

Obviously nobody but the two parents can answer this but AIBU to find this really quite disturbing?

‘Yes - but many posters seem to be anti this surrogacy, because of who adam kay is.’

a gay man. That’s the main issue.
when you’re a gay couple with children, you get used to the ‘input’ of randoms on whether you should have children.
the opinion of straight people or anyone else is like water off a ducks back to me, and every other LGBTQ parent I know.

you get to decide if/ when/ how we have children about as much as we get to decide whether you do or how you do or if you should or if you’re ready or not

Nah. There has always been very anti surrogacy chat on this site. Nothing to do with sexuality. Even when straight people mention surrogacy there are lots of people pointing out the ethical issues with surrogacy.

Nothing to do with him being gay. It’s to do with him buying a baby….which people take issue with regardless of the sexuality of the person doing it.

'"I think if you're on Instagram, it's quite possible to have parenthood slightly mis-sold to you," he says.'

Babies aren't for buying and selling, you miserable horror.

nothingcomestonothing · 09/10/2023 12:38

Oh no, can't they outsouce that bit to a service human as well? My heart is bleeding.

Apparently, they are a bit surprised about the reality of parenthood https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66779460

He wished someone sat him down to tell him beforehand.. really?
He couldn't have guessed that babies cry/feed/need nappy changes a lot during a 24 hour period...? And that you'll be sleep deprived? But they went ahead and "got" 2 anyway! 🙄

Embarra55ed · 09/10/2023 13:40

omg he is disgusting. Several people said at the outset of this thread that it would only be a matter of time before he started monetising these poor children, and here it starts. Absolutely despicable individual.

Why are the BBC repeating this crap.

Flickersy · 09/10/2023 13:43

He's not saying anything different than almost all new parents, I don't know why it's something to pour scorn on because it's AK saying it.

Everyone knows babies are tough but no-one really knows it until you've actually experienced it.

If he's been mis-sold parenthood on insta, perhaps he should return the goods and ask for a full refund.

When is it BBC News frontpage worthy to say the same old shit?

You'd have to ask the BBC that, not AK.

Just a reminder that this man wrote and performed this song, and the BBC fucking loves him:

Northern Birds

This is a national service announcement for all men
If you go to Bolton
If you go to Manchester
Or crewe
Newcastle, or Scarborough
York, or Scunthorp, Bradford, Barnsley too
or Grimsby
Listen up to what we have to say
Northern birds are lazy ugly whores who smell of burgers
So dont have too much to drink
or you might fuck one
and end up getting aids
Theres nothing fun
To be found off the M1
Northern birds are lower class
Slags who take it up the arse
They're in the sack
after one cider and black
but they're fucking awful rides
and your dick won't touch the sides
Da-da-da-da-da-da
da-da-da-da
Northern Birds
Da-da-da-da-da
If you really have to
Go up north then follow our advice
Fight away the women
Or you'll find yourself with Pubic lice
And herpes
Your much better staying in the South
Northern Birds
are desperate ugly hippos dressed in Burberry
With a peanut for a brain
And an accent that makes you want to die
Now you've been warned
Theyre all physically deformed
Northern birds
are all obese
and theyre riddled with disease
Try to escape
Northern sex is worse than rape
Stay down south and mark my words
Stear well clear of northern birds
Northern birds
Northern birds

Yeah but most new parents don’t use their kids to try to make money and/or generate publicity (as a way of making money) about themselves, which is what I object to.

He’s milked his medical career to death so is moving on to something else now.

littleripper · 09/10/2023 13:54

sorry! I meant to post that on the new thread!

Agree.

It probably wasn’t very wise to order two babies so close together. What did they expect? And don’t they realise that people only put the shiny stuff on Instagram, not the 3am feeding?

It’s not remotely newsworthy.

Hufflepods · 09/10/2023 14:02

@RedToothBrush Man discovers what women have known for years and it is somehow 'news'.

And yet there are thousands of posts on this site from women who struggle with the realities of parenthood, that is fine, not fine if you're a man apparently.

This is a prime example of outrage for the sake of outrage just because of who the comment comes from.

Most people don't buy babies.

Cyclebabble · 09/10/2023 14:39

So Adam and his partner did not buy a baby. They used a surrogate. I cannot see the difference between this and one of my gay friends who used a sperm bank. Sorry.

ArabeIIaScott · 09/10/2023 14:33

It doesn't matter how the baby arrives - born, adopted, surrogacy, fostered, whatever - it has no bearing on the fact that most first time parents are caught off guard by the reality of looking after young babies.

ArabeIIaScott · 09/10/2023 14:44

It fucking bloody well matters to the baby.

2023forme · 09/10/2023 14:45

Weal · 18/06/2023 17:41

I’m Not a fan of surrogacy so don’t token this situation anyway. I agree it is odd to purposefully have 2 small babies at once. Surely one at a time is more manageable and makes sense. Obviously multiple births happen and people manage, but to choose it purposefully doesn’t make much sense to me ?

Indeed but it’s not about making a sensible decision- it’s about buying babies because you can. No pregnancy/birth to recover from, no healing required, no hormones to contend with etc. just two “bundles of joy” to complete their lives or some such shit. Can hardly wait until his next rib tickling book about “parenthood” - the man is just horrible.

You can't see the difference between buying some sperm, and buying two humans and renting two other humans' bodies to grow those humans in?
