To report someone for possible mortgage fraud

Is it fraudulent to not declare an existing mortgage in another country when you apply for one in the UK?

@YouveGotAFastCar I thought this was the case. I can't remember being asked about existing mortgages on any previous applications. If payments were being made it would come out in bank statements.

@sleepyscientist not jealousy at all. I'm not sure what has given you that impression.

If you're not jealous how did it affected you so much that you feel the need to report somebody for doing something that is a) none of your business and b) you don't even know they've done it!

Toottooot · 18/06/2023 12:45

REPORT REPORT REPORT NOW! To who I’m nae sure 🤷🏻‍♀️

@bluelagoon12 unfortunately, that's not going to be possible. This situation is affecting my whole life.

No-one can give you sensible advice unless you are honest with us about why it affects you.

Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:46

@clpsmum I know they have a mortgage in the UK, my question was do you have to declare an existing mortgage and if not, does this mean that the application was fraudulent.

I think owning a property in another part of the world affects stamp duty for first time buyers, as far as I can remember.

Still, the OP should keep out of it and just focus on her own life.

Ah potentially - this wasn't relevant for me, my DH had previously owned so I've never had the exemption.

You have to declare all your major outgoings and provide copies of your bank statements

Underminer · 18/06/2023 12:47

Then you know your answer. Only you know the situation, any impact on you and your movitafion.

Exactly. It'd be fraudulent if you were asked and lied, but I've never been asked, and I've had mortgages with HSBC and Barclays.

Dumpruntime · 18/06/2023 12:48

How’s it affecting your whole life if they haven’t declared.? You’re clearly not one of rhe mortgage holders. And if the person who has the mortgage doesn’t contribute to the mortgage are you even sure they are on it. And what do you mean they should be contributing. Surely that’s not your decision?

it does look like jealousy and spite. Reporting can only have the intent of harming them, so why do you wish to do this?

YouveGotAFastCar · 18/06/2023 12:48

I pressed enter to soon then!

The payments were clearly on my bank statements so presumably will have been used for affordability; but they never questioned them or asked for further details, and when I tried to provide them voluntarily, they didn't want them.

My experience is that banks do not care about overseas commitments.

Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:49

@DontMakeMeShushYou well I suppose the back story is irrelevant, I just needed an answer to my question. Thanks for your reply.

Then the answer is it’s likely to be legit and you either don’t have enough facts or aren’t saying then]m, I suspect the latter

Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:51

@YouveGotAFastCar it seems that once you leave the country you're untouchable.

I answered your question in the first response. If the mortgage company asked and it wasn’t disclosed, it is fraud. But you will never know if the mortgage company asked because it is none of your business.

Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:54

@Dumpruntime it's not affecting my whole life that they haven't declared, it's affecting my life that they haven't contributed to the mortgage. I'm the other mortgage holder. They should indeed be contributing and are most definitely on the mortgage.

Well no, it's not necessarily fraudulent. It may be but it may be not. Impossible to know without more details. But, on the basis of the information you've given, it sounds like it has absolutely nothing to do with you and there is no way on earth that it can possibly be affecting your whole life. Just leave the person involved to get on with their life.

What has that got to do with the question you asked then? You are honestly making no sense whatsoever, if you would explain yourself properly you might get some answers that help you.

Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:56

@Quveas what an unnecessary mean response.

OP posts:
Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:59

@Aprilx I think from my posts you can work out that I have a joint mortgage with someone that has left the country and taken out a mortgage in the UK.

The back story is irrelevant. That's why I posted my question about mortgage fraud only.

OP posts:
Chickpea17 · 18/06/2023 12:59

You're not making any sense you need to explain yourself better before you can get sensible answers.

clpsmum · 18/06/2023 12:59

@Wheredoistart78 I've just seen your latest update that you are the other mortgage holder. If you are wanting them to pay their fair share I would speak to your mortgage provider and a solicitor ASAP. All the time you pay the mortgage and they are still on it they can decide to take you to court to force the sale and still receive half the equity even though you're paying it alone.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 18/06/2023 13:01

Wheredoistart78 · 18/06/2023 12:54

So it has nothing to do with mortgage fraud. That's just a way for you to try to cause trouble for someone who's pissed you off.

This has to do with someone you share a mortgage with who is no longer contributing the share you think they should. In which case you need to contact your mortgage lender and talk to them about it.

Perhaps just saying that in your first post would have been a good idea. 🙄
