maybe i should have put more in to the OP - what I meant to say before hitting post, was is anyone else fed up with the "unalive" instead of dead texts you see on social media?

It's horrid isn't it. But I think it's to avoid the auto filter thing that gets triggered by the word dead / death.

I think it's because some social media platforms get upset at certain words so they have to use alternatives.

You’re not allowed to say dead or kill myself or various other things on tiktok so it comes from that.

It's because social media censors the word "dead" because it was used for either suicide or threats of violence and they wanted to stamp out that content so people carefully skate around it by saying unalive so they don't fall foul of censorship rules (especially when it's just bots doing the censoring and banning people etc) in places like TikTok, Facebook etc.

To my understanding it's to avoid the automatic censorship that has dead/murder/suicide added as trigger words. It's all over reddit and tiktok.

I was listening to a Gardener's World podcast and the guest presenter kept using the term "unalive" -- it was my first time hearing it and it was horrid! I thought your post was referring to that, I didn't realise it was more widespread.

Words like suicide and dead are censored on many social media apps, and I think its then just translated into every day speech, especially for teens.

Yeah, it's not a cutsie way of saying 'dead', it's a way to say something without getting banned on certain social media platforms.

It’s because the apps detect talk of suicide etc and take your post down. So it’s a way to get around that. I mean it’s pretty obvious really.

I see this all the time and it bugs the shot out of me, it’s stupid. Just say dead already.

It seems to only detect the words not the context so even mentioning games or movies with die or dead in the title get flagged. It's also why so many use the emoji now. S🥚S - sex, 🌽/🌟 porn/porn star, 🍒-boobs....

It's annoying, but not nearly as annoying as luddites making knee-jerk assumptions that The Youth deliberately chose to say "unalive" purely to be snowflakes, which honestly I see more of here.

You should try explaining how to do DIY on Facebook or talk about weeds on my animal crossing group you cannot nail ANYTHING to a wall screw anything etc etc and weeds? Have to be spelt w33ds
