Recently remortgaged and the massive rate rise got us thinking. Made me wonder - what is the average people owe? Yes it depends on area/value/when bought etc. But to make it simple I'd be interested in
A) how much owed
B) your age

I'll go first! We owe £115k and I'm 31.

Zero. Paid off when I was widowed. House worth £1m. Had no plans to pay off mortgage when husband was around, planned to increase it, fix 10 years on low rate and build equity. As it is there is security knowing I never need to worry about paying It off as a lone parent

That seems OK but it depends on where you live, what the value of you house is and how much you earn.

ScruffyGrape · 15/06/2023 17:42

Now:
38k at 33. 5 years left to pay.

As of next month:
180k. 33 year mortgage.

We will reduce term once we stop paying childcare.

No opinion on your mortgage, just wanted to pass on my appreciation for your username 😂😂 That clip will never get old 😁

Fauit · 15/06/2023 18:14

£990k, age 43. Have another property we're selling for £650k (mortgage-free), so we'll put all of that money towards the balance which will bring the mortgage down.

SchoolShenanigans · 15/06/2023 18:15

This means didly squat without knowing the house's value. Someone may well owe £50k at 40 and people think wow. But then if the house is only worth £150k, then it's less of a surprise.

TinaTotal · 15/06/2023 18:19

I was mortgage free at age 40 but at 45 we upsized and now have £220k left to go. (44% LTV)

boodlesandpoodles · 15/06/2023 18:21

300k 40’s LTV just under 30%

cookie4640 · 15/06/2023 18:27

Nearly £900k
41 & 43

RockyReef · 15/06/2023 18:33

Approximately £250k and we're 40 & 41. It's a £1.1 million house though, and we're well aware we could choose to sell up and still own a jolly nice house in a town mortgage free, but we like our 10 acres and no neighbours 😄

WithManyTot · 15/06/2023 18:33

Zero, at 35 for a few years, then again at 44 for a few year, and again at 48, but all different houses

ettabea · 15/06/2023 18:34

Paid off 4 years ago

canigetitmyself · 15/06/2023 18:35

£250k 45

Plan to increase this though
