How about going to the dog adoption centre and choosing one. Pets are not gifts

Animals are not gifts. If he wants a dog he should be involved in the choosing, preferably a rescue centre.

Just get his cheque book and write several cheques for varying amounts, for things like vet bills, insurance etc.

Double everything if said dog is a mongrel designer breed or a brachycephalic breed.

Then, shit in a bag repeatedly and lay them on his pillow.

Surpriseeeeeee!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

JamSandle · 13/06/2023 21:39

Agree dogs are not a gift but a living animal.

ilovesooty · 13/06/2023 21:42

Not again.

SixOClock · 13/06/2023 21:46

Who is to say the puppy isn't from a rescue?

OP may have tiny children for all anyone knows.

I've repeatedly tried to home a rescue and it's very hard.

Safarigiraffe · 13/06/2023 21:46

We tried rescue but couldn’t find a rescue puppy

On OPs other thread, she was meant to pick up a springer puppy a month ago. On that thread the husband went from working full time, to being retired, to working from home sometimes 😵‍💫

Peppermint81 · 13/06/2023 21:48

What kind of dog is it?

Skinnermarink · 13/06/2023 21:48

I doubt you tried a rescue if you had a specific ‘dream puppy’ in mind.

Oh OP…

Wolfiefan · 13/06/2023 21:54

No decent breeder would let you buy a surprise puppy for someone. They would want to meet the whole family.
In our local paper was a story of someone who did just what you’ve described. The pup died shortly after they got it home. Parvo I think.
Cancel this birthday surprise. It’s a shit idea.

ghostyslovesheets · 13/06/2023 21:57

I remember the other thread - just give him the dog - and then sit back and watch it all implode

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 13/06/2023 21:57

OP was given loads of advice on her other thread from April- how to avoid puppy farms, how to avoid backyard breeders, what bare minimum basic good breeders should do, and ask. No good breeder would allow their pup to go as a ‘surprise’. Maybe OP can clarify.

Laiste · 13/06/2023 21:59

Someone's been watching too many shite you tube videos.

If you've got kids OP - PLEASE don't let them scream and shriek at the puppy when you hand it over.

TitsonaFishRidingaBicycle · 13/06/2023 22:00

How can it be his dream puppy if he hasn't even been to meet the breeder/ parents/ puppy/ had anything to do with it?

Just going off the info of someone buying a puppy on a whim as a surprise, have you ensured they’re health tested, will have a breeder contract in place, have been brought up correctly with all appropriate socialisation and health care? Ideally KC reg too but that’s not the be all for everyone. If you have got a Springer, please remember what type of breed they are and sitting home waiting for a walk whilst you work full time, isn’t going to cut it.

Have you considered that even if it’s your husband’s ‘dream’, it might not be the right time and he may actually not be so receptive to your ‘surprise’? We have 2 dogs and neither are my husband’s ‘dream’ breed although fairly close.
If I was to rock up home with one, as much as he’d think it was cute, he’d be less than pleased at the timing and expense of one at this time in our lives.

I don’t agree but guessing you’re going to go ahead anyway..

ilovesooty · 13/06/2023 22:09

The OP had loads of advice before which she didn't listen to.

Of course she's going to go ahead - with no regard for animal welfare.

Jellybebe · 13/06/2023 22:10

FFS OP.

You are a liar and completely irresponsible to be getting a puppy. You lied in a previous thread about your husband being retired and then later admitted he was still working, you had done no research on the breed or breeder, you lied that you were not getting a puppy as a surprise for your husbands birthday and yet here you are, getting a puppy as a surprise for your husbands birthday. That poor puppy. Shameful OP.

For anyone interested, here is the previous thread:

welcometomylife23 · 13/06/2023 22:14

There’s another thread from February time about this subject too I’ve just seen.

Are you still planning on going to Dubai in September? What will happen to the, just settling in puppy then?

Jellybebe · 13/06/2023 22:14

Safarigiraffe · 13/06/2023 21:46

We tried rescue but couldn’t find a rescue puppy

They most likely didn't give you a puppy because you and husband both still work and would not be around the walk the puppy. Take the hint, your lifestyle is not currently conducive to getting a puppy as your circumstances are such that you cannot give it the care and attention it needs.

Cue the thread in the next few weeks where you can't cope because your puppy is badly behaved and shits everywhere.

mumtoboys12 · 13/06/2023 22:17

Hmmmm.....

Bonjovispjs · 13/06/2023 22:22

Can't believe people STILL think it's okay to give animals as presents 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've worked in an animal shelter and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know why puppies were often brought in.
