Please don’t let it be a Weimaraner. Lots of people say they are their dream dog. High energy, lots of waking, lots of training and not compatible with a full time working household. Same for lots of dogs they need planning for and adjusting to and that is not possible in the context of a surprise present

How about going to the dog adoption centre and choosing one. Pets are not gifts

The 'trend' for certain dog breeds encourages people to have really unsuitable dogs. About two years ago every other person seemed to get a viszla. Our neighbours got one then went to work full time every day. Poor puppy howled and howled. I told them it was suffering whilst they were away as it was lonely.

Their solution? They got another viszla puppy to keep it company. Both shut in one room for 8 hours a day or more, 5 days a week. Now two puppies crying all day. Heart breaking.

People have NO idea what a lifetime of commitment means.

Where do the Daily Mail get all these awful women who can't act like an adult and take responsibility for their lives.

This woman knew her dog was a danger and left it unmuzzled outside a busy cafe.

I've been around dogs for nearly 60 years and have NEVER had a lead break. I'm so angry with this woman.

Our dogs are from a breeder who breeds only from this breed . They have crafts champions and they do sell puppies . BUT they will not sell a puppy they thing inappropriate & we have had to take the previous dogs to who them they are well behaved etc. They can't stop you from breeding from a dog but they ask you to say you will have the dog neutered . I suppose they cannot enforce this but they are not going to be registered with the Kennel club. So this breeder ( & we have had to have zoom calls with her ) is as responsible as I think you can be. I don't think it Is irresponsible to get a dog from a responsible breeder . A friend of a friend bred puppies from her bitch and sold them . I would not have thought she would do this and I disagree with it.

A puppy as a surprise present is an idea beyond all stupidity in my opinion but I think others have said the same . As a dog owner I would absolutely support anything which stops irresponsible breeding.

OP hasn't replied. She must be too busy buying ribbon and wrapping paper and completely ignoring everyone's sensible advice again.

A dog is a big commitment that needs thought and planning, it should never be a surprise.
