Hi all, husbands birthday coming up & we have got him his dream puppy. What’s some ideas to surprise him with puppy other than just handing puppy over to him

Puppies are not a dream anyway. They’re very real little horrors who eat everything if it’s there, want the toilet frequently, cry or possibly howl when you want to be sleeping and generally run amok. It is full on and can test even the most patient, resilient and puppy loving of people.

All of the above requires you to be there for them nigh on constantly. They need you to teach them as much as a baby, what they can and can’t do and train them with life saving and etiquette focused commands such as recall.

Your life as you know it does not continue when you have a puppy. You have to be around for them by booking leave to settle them in and you can forget holidays abroad.

Jesus wept. Utterly despicable behaviour. PETS ARE NOT GIFTS!!

greyhairnomore · 13/06/2023 22:39

@Safarigiraffe how many variations of this story are you going to post ?

flimsywhimsy · 13/06/2023 22:43

Though it shouldn't be the norm, I actually think a pet can be a gift under the right circumstances (and have seen it work out perfectly well for the dog and the people involved)... I know that's not popular opinion, but...🤷‍♀️

However, in this case it feels a lot like someone knows all the right buttons to push to (try to) generate pearl-clutching drama!

LifeIsPainHighness · 13/06/2023 22:48

I think there’s be no better surprised than checking he actually wants this massive commitment for the next 15 or so years.

Just get his cheque book and write several cheques for varying amounts, for things like vet bills, insurance etc.

Double everything if said dog is a mongrel designer breed or a brachycephalic breed.

Then, shit in a bag repeatedly and lay them on his pillow.

Surpriseeeeeee!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m sleep trapped by youngest so read the other threads by OP.
You changed your working hours from all day 9-5ish to 10-2 in less than a month and you had a puppy to put a deposit down on, ready in 2 weeks that your husband knew about and wasn’t a surprise.

You’ve either got even more time on your hands than me right now 😂 or you need to start being truthful and not get a puppy.

NectarCard · 13/06/2023 22:51

But in the last thread you said your husband knows so it’s not a surprise is it?

dread to think where you got the dog after all the advice you ignored previous

LifeIsPainHighness · 13/06/2023 22:51

Ugh to the rescue whingers

This meme says it all about getting a rescue dog

A dog is a commitment. What's the point of that post?

It’s called humour.

Anyway, I remember the OP’s last thread!! Can’t believe this is the same person!

ilovesooty · 13/06/2023 22:55

Well if you find it funny 🙄

Yes I do - is that ok with you?

It’s humour drawing on actually how difficult it is to get a rescue dog because of the conditions dogs impose. It is very possible to a person’s circumstances to make it impossible to have a rescue dog

What a load of shite. And using the term “rescue whingers” say a lot about you as a person.

Well obviously you're perfectly entitled to have a warped sense of humour if you wish.

Agreed. The term "rescue whingers" says a lot about the kind of person who uses it.

Oh no, gutted

AnyaMarx · 13/06/2023 23:01

Have you done the research if you're actually both still
Working ?

Puppies are harder work than babies imo .

Dear me you must have a sensitive disposition if you call that warped (FYI I don’t think Pissfingers is a real dog in case you were worried about him)

AnyaMarx · 13/06/2023 23:02

Oh and the shine of the birthday will
Some wear off if you haven't researched.

Shhhquirrel · 13/06/2023 23:03

‘Dream puppy’ 🙄You really shouldn’t be getting a dog OP.

Of course it's not a real dog.

One person's "sensitive disposition" is someone else's basic decency.

Wexone · 13/06/2023 23:06

that's because they don't appear by magic a good rescue will assess your life etc and assign you the dog to suit your needs. if you can't accept this don't get a dog. !!! I actually can't not believe in the day with all the education media reports etc. people still buy dogs
if yoi want a dog try fostering or volunteer at a shelter.

Jellybebe · 13/06/2023 23:07

OP were you honest with the breeder regarding you and your husbands working hours and that your intention was to get this puppy as a surprise to your husband?

Either you lied about the above to secure a puppy from a responsible breeder or told the truth and the breeder didn't care as they are not a responsible breeder and most likely a puppy farm. Either way, you should not be getting a puppy. Incredibly selfish behaviour.

theGooHasGone · 13/06/2023 23:11

Just another example of why dog licences should still be a thing.
