To think webcams in homes are getting quite common?

Just that, really. We have a few to keep an eye on our dogs when we are out. Most of our friends also do. How many MNters have security webcams in their homes/gardens/drives?

AIBU: we have them
YANBU: we don't have any

Absolutely not, and refuse to have a ring door bell too

londonrach · 15/06/2023 07:12

None here. My next door neighbour has one which I hate but no one else. Tbh it's not that common in this area.

londonrach · 15/06/2023 07:13

Next door neighbour is a ring doorbell. No one got anything else.

I have a couple but I do turn them off if I have guests that I know because don't want them to feel uncomfortable

Do you inform everyone coming into the house?

Ambi · 15/06/2023 07:37

The CCTV also came into use when DH had an expensive phone being delivered and the delivery company claimed it had been delivered, signed by our surname. We had proof that it hadn't been delivered when disputed and the phone turned up later that day with a poor excuse of "Not sure what happened there". 🤔

We have a couple of portable ones, normally one in front porch, the other in back porch, both facing outwards, so covering who comes to the doors and front & back garden.

Sometimes we move them if there's any particular risk, such as last Summer, adjoining neighbours behind us were having a tree chopped down so we moved the front camera to a back bedroom for better coverage of the back of our garden, the fence etc. Good job we did as the tree fellers trampled over our plants and dropped a huge limb right onto the fence breaking it and the concrete fence post. We were out at work so knew none of this. Upon our return we contacted the neighbour who in turn contacted the tree fellers who denied it was anything to do with them. It was only when we presented the neighbour with the video evidence that they agreed to replace the fence and post and sort out the plants. Another time, scaffolders next door knocked down part of our front garden wall with a scaffolding pole - again denied it until we presented the video evidence!

As for people not wanting to be recorded, we never ever playback recordings unless there's a reason. Life's too short! We only playback when something has happened, such as damage by workmen, damage to a car, etc., or when a neighbour reports a break in or vandalism and then we check our cams to see if they picked up anything useful.

Quite a few ring doorbells in the neighbourhood. I don't know about inside. None of my friends have them. I find it a bit creepy.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 15/06/2023 07:45

One in the dog room, which is turned on when we go out and at night when the dogs go to bed. I have half a dozen dogs, and it’s useful to know who it was if someone is ill, whinging or upset etc.

Six outdoor, to cover the fields, barns etc and gates. Clearly visible and full signage up.

we live rurally and basically everyone has outdoor cameras. Indoor cameras much more rare- thank god!

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 15/06/2023 07:47

Oh and the dog sitters know about the camera in the dog room- I give them access to it when we are away, so they can monitor if they wish to. They don’t have to.

MegaClutterSlut · 15/06/2023 07:47

I have 3 cameras outside and 1 in the front room to check on the dog when we're at work. I only bought cameras in the first place as there was a spate of houses being broken into and dogs stolen

None here. It would be interesting to see what the cats get up to on the odd day neither of us are home but I suspect they just sleep and the thought of cameras in my house creeps me out.

This.

Anon6842 · 15/06/2023 07:52

Outside cameras at front and back of house. It gives me piece of mind when I’m on my own at night, and if I go away.

cpphelp · 11/06/2023 12:52

Used to have one when we had a dog and first had a dog walker

This sounds like you set it up to monitor the dog walker not the dog? If so what a depressing way to start a working relationship.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 15/06/2023 07:55

Outside yes, but no, I would not have one inside.

The closest I have is a baby monitor in my sons room which is still up for laziness but isn't a WiFi one so only connects to the little screen it came with and doesn't record.

Wallywobbles · 15/06/2023 12:55

We've had things half inches from the garden so now have front and back cameras. Never think to look at them though.

Wallywobbles · 15/06/2023 12:56

And we have one for lambing, that goes into the chicken house for rat watch.
