To sneak alcohol into a concert ?

willwetalkinthemorning · 10/06/2023 12:38

Going to a concert tonight in a large stadium
Prices are extortionate
Your looking at £10 for a gin
I have a foldable wine bottle holder which I plan on putting gin in and putting it in back of jeans
Buying lemonade from inside with a glass than adding my own gin
Would you do it ?

@wistfullyfocused - still a good idea 💡

RampantIvy · 10/06/2023 15:08

DD went to a music festival a couple of weeks ago. Every bag was thoroughly searched and everyone was patted down. They weren't allowed to take any food or drink in, and the free water was disgusting.

The prices these places charge for food and drink is criminal.

I love the idea of pouches down your bra. Being small of chest I would be able to get away with it. In my case I'm not bothered about drinking alcohol, I just don't want to get dehydrated.

Nottogetapenny · 10/06/2023 15:09

Someone I know, puts a small packet of sanitary towels or panty liners in her bag and hides small bottles of alcohol in the pack! Saves her a fortune!!

Motorcycleemptyness · 10/06/2023 15:11

Ignore all the fun sponges here OP. I am not an alcoholic (but i am an adult who is legally allowed to enjoy a drink) and I do stuff like this all the time. The 02 arena charges £15 for a glass of shit wine. No thanks. Take the drinks you enjoy and fingers crossed you don’t get them taken off you!

Florissant · 10/06/2023 12:46

That was my thought, too.

Oh Lordy, prime MN. Can't have more than a thimble of sweet sherry a year or you're a drunk 🙄

Ineedaduvetday · 10/06/2023 15:14

Do stadiums stop you taking a thermal flask for water? That's how I take alcohol into cinemas etc.

pendleflyer · 10/06/2023 15:15

i see where you are coming from OP, it is a disgrace, but wouldn't bother/risk it.
I'd have a drink or two before, enjoy the gig, retire to a nice pub you've researched before (a spoons would be good) and sod 'em.

Haribosweets · 10/06/2023 15:17

Yes! I do this all the time, I sneak drinks in to concerts, sport stadiums like old Trafford, just be discrete. Pockets, wear a jacket with inside pockets, you can buy hair scrunchies that fit in miniature bottles too. They may do a bag search just don't look nervous walking in and you'll be fine 🙂

They will ask you to prove that it is empty. DD has a metal water bottle, and she had to show that it had nothing in it.

If they didn't charge such stupid prices people wouldn't try to smuggle drinks in.

ConstitutionHill · 10/06/2023 15:18

Well I have clearly been an amateur all these years, even though someone upthread branded me ... :
"probably working in a dull job like the Inland Revenue"
"Face planting"
and generally getting smashed, abusing staff and being a danger to myself and others....

That wine rack sports bra 😂 it's deffo going to be a secret Santa this year.

I think you might look a little suspicious wearing a multi pocket jacket in this weather Grin

Besides, they pat you down nowadays.

Thanks, not been to a stadium in years.

YANBU - loads of people do it to avoid the price gouging on drinks at large events. I’ve done it many times without any problems. Have a great time!

Yep. I’m not much of a drinker but my friends have those little plastic pouches filled with vodka in their bra.

Nothing to do with being an alcoholic cheap chavvy immature or whatever sneering insults are being thrown. Some venues take the piss with what they charge do if you can get away with it, why not?

Who really wants to pay ££12 for a small plastic cup of warm house plonk?

JoanOfAllTrades · 10/06/2023 15:24

Lidlpopdrinker · 10/06/2023 13:26

If you can hide it about your person then definitely, take it. The prices they charge in these places are extortionate.

just to warn you though, it’s not unusual to get a pat down. Best place in my experience is where some trousers with wide bottoms, then tape it around your leg just below the knee, they never pat that far down.

i’m something of an expert at taking things I shouldn’t into concerts and festivals.

This is the best suggestion but I would go one further. Mix your drink with some OJ, procure some tubing, procure a catheter bag and if you do get patted down and they feel this pouch, say very haughtily that thanks to an accident, that is your catheter bag and have they humiliated you enough?

They’ll leave you alone for the whole concert time!

Catheter supplies can be bought online and even better, most companies send free samples so you may not need to even pay! Catheter supplies are sterile and the bags have a small tap/toggle on the bottom to allow for easy emptying. The tubing would need to be attached to the top of the bag and go up your leg so that it appears realistic.

Parkermumma07 · 10/06/2023 15:27

Do it :) ignore all the judgmental idiots on here and enjoy yourself. Have a great time x

pendleflyer · 10/06/2023 15:31

oh what has the world come to - am old enough to remember when the worst thing about drink at gigs was squishy plastic glasses and then trying not to spill it.
From above posts it does seem to help if you are a woman - more places off-limits to hide stuff.

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 10/06/2023 15:35

I would give it a go. The drinks are always extortionate at arenas etc. Though saying that I never drink at these kinds of things due to my useless bladder.

sqirrelfriends · 10/06/2023 15:39

Wanting to enjoy a drink doesn’t make someone an alcoholic. I barely drink but there are some times I like to have one.

thinktwice36 · 10/06/2023 15:41

willwetalkinthemorning · 10/06/2023 12:39

I know you cant -that's why I would be sneaking it in
It's only because they want you to pay the crazy prices

are you aware that not every concert promoter makes a killing? What do you think pays for….

artist fees
security
staff
staging
lights
power
licencing
PRS fees
transport
cleaning

and that’s just the start of it. Please think about that when you are trying to steal from business who suffered horrendously during covid, often with staff who due to the nature of the work slipped through the WFH/Furlough net.

”they” are just trying to make a living and put on an event that people enjoy.

sqirrelfriends · 10/06/2023 15:41

At Reading one year I taped DHs camelback full of wine round my front. Once I was in I stuck it in my bag and took sips of body temperature wine all day.

FlamingoQueen · 10/06/2023 15:42

If it’s at the O2 then you walk through a body scanner then have your bag searched.

Hazey19 · 10/06/2023 15:44

My friend always used to sneak in those foil packets out of boxes of wine up her jumper. 4 bottles in one. Never got caught. And saved us all a fortune x

No.. Mumsnet isn't anything. Certainly not a hive mind. It's a forum and opinions differ, as they do on here.

Fantastic. Thanks for the usual MN insight 🙄

You're welcome. Some people genuinely seem to think that it's a club with the same posters! I read "MN thinks..." a lot. Which is such bollox.

Maireas · 10/06/2023 16:00

"MN has a weird view on alcohol". No it doesn't. Some posters do, some don't.
