To sneak alcohol into a concert ?

willwetalkinthemorning · 10/06/2023 12:38

Going to a concert tonight in a large stadium
Prices are extortionate
Your looking at £10 for a gin
I have a foldable wine bottle holder which I plan on putting gin in and putting it in back of jeans
Buying lemonade from inside with a glass than adding my own gin
Would you do it ?

OP posts:

Who can be this bothered?! Just buy a drink or drink before or after

Maireas · 10/06/2023 13:50

Big platform shoes, hollowed out. Stash a few minatures in there.

pinkstripeycat · 10/06/2023 13:51

Goodness there are some strange folk on here!

Absolute weirdos!

Just because OP would like a drink of her choice without paying astronomical prices it doesn’t mean she can’t go a few hours without a drink!

OP YANBU!!!! Take some booze hidden in your bra (or wherever) and have an amazing time!

strawberrywhisk · 10/06/2023 13:53

Just because some people have more money than sense, doesn't mean they should call the OP a scruff, snobby gits

PodgePie · 10/06/2023 13:55

Why bother asking if you’re clearly going to do it anyway?

Elevel · 10/06/2023 13:56

YANBU, and how insensitive and idiotic to call the OP an alcoholic. It's a genuine illness, not something to use to snidely put someone down when they don't want to spend a small fortune on a few drinks.

Sneak it in if you can OP, let the people on this thread who are worried about the poor big companies losing some 9f their gigantic profits pay £10 a drink to keep them going. 🙄

Megifer · 10/06/2023 13:56

I'll take being a scruff in this situation, means I have money spare so I can spend it on nice clothes for when I go out to the places I sneak my booze into 🤣

I think op is looking for ideas how, not asking for permission

JimJamJolly · 10/06/2023 13:59

Yes I would do it.
Whether you get a way with it is pot luck depending on the venue and the security guard!
I went to a large outside gig last night and the bag searches were pretty half hearted - could have got anything in!
You are right, the drink prices and queues are ridiculous.
Good luck... And have a great evening

Idlechitchat · 10/06/2023 14:01

Go for it OP! Just don’t take more than you’d be prepared to lose if you have it taken off you at the gate.

I went to the same Beyoncé concert as you and only had my bag checked very quickly. I’ve been to Pink this week also, but at a different venue, the bag check was a bit more thorough but no body search or scanners. Hope you have the best time!

Then OP should have posted in Chat. Why ask AIBU if you already think that you aren't being unreasonable. It's clear that OP thinks they are being reasonable. So why even ask? Either take drinks in or don't.

EdinaCrump · 10/06/2023 13:44

The drink prices are not a rip-off, they are part of the means by which these events get funded. They could alternatively add £50 to the price of every ticket and charge normal pub prices for drinks. Would you prefer that?

But you do you, I know people who take drink flasks into gigs - I just buy my drinks there or get loaded up on cocktails beforehand :)

I don't think you understand how capitalism works. Companies don't charge just enough to cover the cost of running an event, they charge whatever they can get people to pay. The drinks sellers may not even be the same company as the one running the event.

Drinks prices are so high because the company can establish a monopoly in a situation where there is high demand.

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 10/06/2023 14:03

I would never do such a thing! <ahem> I might however have those refillable pouch things for yogurt or purées and put rum in one, tonic in the other and a bra with a cup size bigger Halo

Y is a crooked letter that comes before ZZZZ!

megacat · 10/06/2023 14:07

I was at Pink in Bolton and they had a cursory look in my bag.
People were vaping away and security weren't interested, the nearest guard was a good way away so if it's equally lax at Sunderland you'll be fine.
The prices for drinks are extortionate for poor quality rubbish so you're definitely doing the right thing sneaking something in.
You're in for an amazing night I'm jealous, I wish I could see her all over again!

Notjustabrunette · 10/06/2023 14:07

I did this a lot in the past. We once had a competition to see who could sneak the most booze into a festival.

hulahooper2 · 10/06/2023 14:10

Just go and don’t drink , drunk folk at Concerts are the worst. Pretty sad if you need alcohol to enjoy yourself

JudgeRudy · 10/06/2023 14:11

Those are the rules which you knew in advance. Let's say you've paid £200 for tickets. Why quibble about another £50 for drinks? Yes, it's expensive but that's the price it is.
I doubt the soft drinks will be much cheaper than alcohol, but let's say they are. Do you really want to risk getting thrown out, or spend the evening having to sneak some luke warm gin out of your knickers/bra because you wanna save a few quid? Or here's a thought. If the alcohol is that expensive go without for one night. Is it that important to your enjoyment.
If you decide to smuggle ensure the people you are with know. If I got kicked out or left on my own because of you I'd be raging and expecting you to reimburse my costs.

Zola1 · 10/06/2023 14:12

Ignore all the stupid comments, plenty of people do it for festivals etc. I went to Sam smith the other week at Manchester and didn't even have a bag search 😳. You'll be fine putting it in the back of your jeans

Zola1 · 10/06/2023 14:13

Goldrushed · 10/06/2023 13:00

Oh my god, this place sometimes.

Maybe all the judgy knickers can wander off to their threads about parking or something and leave the rest of us to discuss the booze sneaking. The prices these places charge are obscene. I expect to pay a bit more but not O2 or Wembley prices.

I'm also trying to work out how to sneak some spirits in to an outdoor gig. There'll still be searches I'm sure.

It's easier in colder months as there's more hiding spots I find.

Bras are good for a little hip flask as they're flat. Just put them in the band under your arm pit.
I think a waistband would be ok with a long top over it. I don't remember being patted down at Wembley last time I went.

If you wear wellies or boots, put capri sun pouches of vodka or whatever in them under your socks 🙂.

Oh who gives a fuck? Life's short. You may wish to lie on your deathbed recalling all the moments in your life in which you were classy. Me, not so much.

Agree with this.

JimJamJolly · 10/06/2023 14:14

Worst case scenario is they confiscate it - they won't deny you entry

LittleFreakJezebel · 10/06/2023 14:14

I always do it and no I'm not an alcoholic Smile.

Water pouch filled with vodka/gin down the back of my shorts/jeans then a jumper tied round my waist is my go to. Most places only glance in your bag never mind pat you down thoroughly, Wish I had done it at a gig I went to last night as it was 45 minutes queues for the bar!
